That time I made a character Straight out of spite
Got annoyed at someone in the gaming group being a dude playing a woman character but deciding that she's gay so he can still have her flirt with female NPCs. Decided my character would be straight and had her charm the famous bard performing at the tavern and also kinda hired us.

Valentein is my stock go-to character, usually when I'm trying to figure out a game's character creation rules he's easy to make. I give him my second-generation Polish immigrant status in some fashion or other as a way of exploring that kinda cultural disconnect.
Recently I've been playing a mechanic named Sophie Jennings (Zofia Dzenkiewski) in a Call of Cthulhu game. She's a Catholic Polish immigrant in the 1920s dealing with assimilationist pressures as symbolized by her youngest surviving sister who is much better/more interested in passing than Zofia is. Also has completely unexamined sexuality (it would be so nice if she was one of those women who liked other women, women are great. Too bad she's not, oh well) and behavioural issues (thoroughly fixated on mechanics and devices, stole a car on impulse because she wanted to take it apart, has exactly two (2) outfits she will wear (work clothes and church clothes).) Recently an eldritch entity put her dad's soul back into his corpse for a conversation and her biggest takeaway was 'my parents aren't actually judging me from Heaven'. This has only barely affected her Catholicism.
I had a LARP character I haven't been able to play since I tripped and fell down a hill in plate armour (also just haven't been physically well enough to go to multiple larps in a month ever since I got out of my 20s) named Łukasz Żelazowski, a sellsword knight-type who hates dragons (there was an in-universe organization of Dragonslayers he idolized) and mistrusts magic, but I built him to be as tanky as I could make him without magic. I ended up writing a decent amount of lore for the fantasy-Poland region he's from, and combined the "Lech, Czech, and Rus" founding legend with the "Wawel Dragon" legend to give his hatred of dragons a cultural basis! It was pretty fun. He was looking for a place to die but it had to be a 'proper' death, with him armed and as armoured as he could be (I wasn't going to spring for a full set of plate, I have pauldrons and some limb pieces and also kinda hate wearing helmets).
I have a pair of twins that are Slavic-coded from a D&D game set on Magic: The Gathering's Ravnica plane (which is very Slavic-coded) so I might add them and any other ones I've forgotten or haven't played in a while later.
Hello friends, I'm here w/ a kinda silly little request!
In the reblogs, drop your Slavic/Slav coded or inspired oc, whether you're actually Slavic or not! Bonus points if they have corresponding irl Slavic countries!
We need more Slavs in fandom spaces:)
#Cthulhu game is on hiatus right now#Storyteller if you're reading this I just love thinking about The Character#There is no pressure#being my most blatant self-insert Valentein is where I put my feeling close to but disconnected from a culture it's a whole thing

"How do you write such realistic dialogue-" I TALK TO MYSELF. I TALK TO MYSELF AND I PRETEND I AM THE ONE SAYING THE LINE. LIKE SANITY IS SLOWLY SLIPPING FROM BETWEEN MY FINGERS WITH EVERY MEASLY WORD THEY TYPE OUT. THAT IS HOW.
#i'm sure people see me muttering to myself#I am just rehearsing what I want NPCs to say when they get to talk to the players I swear

There's two mutually exclusive quests on Shing Jea, given by two characters who are marked as hostile and start fighting as soon as you get close. Neither will do enough damage to out-heal the other without your intervention.
If you kill the tengu, the yeti complains that we robbed him of an honourable death and asks us to find him another opponent worthy enough to die to (not us).
If you kill the yeti, the tengu complains that we robbed him of a kill needed to complete his rite of passage into adulthood and once again we need to find him another worthy challenge.
The yeti quest is mildly easier (just have to let him run off and get ganked, whereas it's easy to screw up the tengu quest by accidentally offing the new target instead of letting the tengu do it) but I'm still having trouble which one Li would do.

Shout out to mentally ill people who dropped out of school
- shout out to the kids who were “so bright” and ‘heading somewhere” and had to drop out because school was too much to handle along with mental illness
- shout out to the kids who struggled to get where they got before they dropped out
- shout out to the kids who tried and tried and tried and still couldn’t finish
you aren’t unintelligent because you dropped out of school, you aren’t a delinquent or a bad person because you dropped out of school, just because you did what you had to doesn’t make you a bad person

Thirty years ago a bunch of console RPGs included pianos that play a little pre-recorded jingle when you walk up to them and press the "interact" button purely as a technical flex about how richly realised their environments are, thereby inadvertently implying that their protagonists can all play the piano, and now three decades later, not only is "all indie RPG protagonists can play the piano" a genre cliché, at least half the time it's a thematically significant plot point. It kind of makes me wonder what sort of semiotic fuckery the medium is going to get up to once it finally stops obsessing over the Super Nintendo era; what utterly insignificant stylistic quirk of the PS2 era is going to be imbued with Deep Significance™ ten years from now?

Seven-Hero-ing it got me a Mallyx kill but I still get wrecked by the Four Horsemen in the Underworld -_-
One of these days I gotta go back and make myself finish Path of Fire and get through Icebrood Saga because I am very curious to experience how GW2 shows Cantha.

"Fictional high school that's basically a miniature university because the author doesn't actually remember what high school was like" versus "author who really wants to write a high school sex comedy, but doesn't want the cast to be underage, so they invent a university that inexplicably operates like a high school".

Someone with a disability does something that they know is painful. But it's okay, because they're only doing it once. They don't want to miss out on it 100%, they can handle the pain once in a while, and they have a chance to recharge after it. They know that they can always stop if it ends up being more painful than expected. They could also be experimenting to see how different circumstances affect their pain. They also don't complain, because they don't want to make a big deal out of it.
Someone who witnesses them do it immediately assumes that they "can". Even if they've seen consistent evidence of the disability, they forget that the struggle ever existed and start expecting it like it's nothing.
