Right, so, I'm fresh meat where RWBY is concerned. I've only seen a few of the first episodes. Loving what I'm seeing, and as is often the case when I like something, I am tempted to make an OC and RP using them. My roadblocks? 1. I'm paradoxically lazy and frequently busy, and so it often takes a while to get around to watching more of it. Which leads me to 2. I lack information necessary to make an OC without breaking canon. Any advice would be appreciated.

this entire blog is your friend, my dude. As an avid watcher of the show and lore this blog even helps me through roadblocks when it comes to characters and things like that! The other important thing to note is that as a group we’re here to help you out with any questions you have based on lore, character development, etc.

Having grown up outside of the kingdoms, Xander never expected to make it into Beacon Academy. Despite the odds being against him he trained hard with his handmade swords every night after work, and was eventually accepted into Beacon. Xander promised his family that he would get a job while in school to continue providing for them, and despite being busy and overworked he still managed to work hard every year at Beacon and become a part of one of the most esteemed and respected teams at Beacon.

Yale grew up in Mistral, and had the life of any average kid. They worked hard, made friends, and trained to study at Haven alongside all of their friends. Yale always liked having everything planned out, and was comforted by the fact that they knew exactly where they were going in life. Unfortunately for Yale their perfect plan would be disrupted when their mother got a job as a security manager in Vale. Yale was forced to leave all of their friends, their home, their plans to go and study at Beacon Academy instead. Despite this they managed to form an amazing team, and even meet their best friend Xander. They are now happier than they ever expected to be in such a strange place, and are creating new plans for a future as a hunter in Vale.

Sombre has always been a hard worker, and it’s this ethic that made her stand out during her training at Signal. Unfortunately, the way that she stood out sometimes meant that she spent more time alone than she would have liked, and in her work to become a student at Beacon she found herself growing lonely. Luckily, after making it into Beacon and even becoming the leader of her team she managed to relax, and slip into her natural goofy personality and socialize more with her team. She’s always trying to convince her teammate, best friend, and occasional competitive rival Egg to let loose a little, as doing so has made her happy, but with no luck.

Egg grew up as a part of the Arc family, but being a middle child and one of the many girls, she never really stood out amongst her siblings. Because of this she trained hard from a young age with the goal of training at Beacon Academy. She wanted to surpass all of her siblings and protect the kingdom from harm. For a long time she was the only Arc sibling with the poise and talent to actually make it into Beacon Academy, but when her youngest brother Jaune began training to study at Beacon, and even inherited their grandfathers weapons over her she found herself growing jealous. When she was accepted into Beacon she did fall in love with the environment, the way she stood out and wasn’t known for being an Arc sibling, and though she was aggravated about losing the leader position to her teammate Sombre, she was just happy to fit in.

She is mostly closed off from the world due to her father’s fear of her secret being discovered. Despite this, she quickly became very close friends with Ruby upon meeting her for the first time.

After Summer died, leaving Taiyang depressed, Qrow took on a parental role towards Ruby and Yang. He taught Ruby all about scythes as her teacher at Signal, and continues to keep an eye on her as she trains at Beacon. Although he has to stay strong for his niece, the weight from his broken team takes its toll on him, and he resorts to drinking a lot to cope with life.

She is happy to get to be close to her sister and keep an eye on her.

Upon his arrival at Beacon, he threw himself at Blake to distract himself from his feelings for Neptune, and to his surprise developed feelings for her as well.

Though Nora Valkyrie is one of the strongest fighters at Beacon, she hasn’t always been this way. Growing up she didn’t have a family, in fact she didn’t have a home of any kind. From a young age she was forced to fend for herself on the streets, fighting and crying for even the smallest amounts of food. But when a Grimm attacked her village she found herself being rescued by a young boy her age; Lie Ren. Years later, the two are still friends and they even attend Beacon Academy together. What Nora refuses to admit, however, despite her naturally open and talkative nature, is that she has actually fallen for Ren.
