A few weeks ago, I visited one of my favorite places for unusual supplies – Douglas and Sturgess. I learned about D&S from Noel back when we were working on various aspect of The Secret Alley. Noel knew of the shop since they sold supplies for mask making, makeup prosthetics, and mold casting.
I perused the various material samples on the shelves next to each kit. I had thought I would use latex for the inside of the banana peel. Turns out, after asking a few questions, that latex doesn’t last very long. It’s not quite durable and tends to break down after a year or so. I’d like to keep my larger-than-life peel longer than a year, so I looked at the next best option: rubber. After fiddling around with the swatches of pale white which were chained to the shelves, I chose the Smooth-On Brush-On 40. I got the 2 pint set as this is really for prototyping at the moment. When I make the final version, I will most likely get one or two gallon kits.
Tonight, I printed out another copy of my peel pattern and cut some pieces of vinyl to be glued to the mesh frame I made a while ago. I ordered some fabric glue to use for this part of the process. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to pick it up from work which was where I had it delivered. I will be able to do some more work on this Tuesday night and perhaps add the two-part rubber on Wednesday.
