I've finally figured out the circumstances under which Nev would have become the WoL. In her default canon, Ireneve's family is loosely tied to the Dzemael line through a knighthood/marriage. However, when the family branched off, no longer continuing the knighthood, they lost a lot of the Nobility that would have been afforded to their otherwise Noble name.
So, in this AU, the Knighthood was upheld. Her family never left Ishgard. When the freeze came, it took much of their livestock and workers, but not them. All the while, Ireneve has been brought up being told she would become a knight, training always with this in mind. She would have also had to practice her lying a lot more.
Despite the bad blood between their families, she would connect with Artoirel much sooner in life. And, later, when she is well on her way to becoming a Templar (claimed by them, rather than the Dragoons), she would learn of the corruption of the church. And she would want to do something about it. Because she's still Nev.
The Fortemps men would stop her from getting herself killed. She would have to leave Ishgard to protect her family and pray that the Fortemps could do something in her place. Meanwhile, Yda and Papalymo find her, very disgruntled and probably slicing up a tree, and recognize what her uncle called clairvoyance as the Echo.
From there... the rest would go as it does in the game, for the most part!

Moonfire Faire inspired character development{?}: Ireneve is 100% the type to start peeling off her clothes because she feels too hot when drunk.

Nev really is a terrible liar. Put her on the spot and she'll just stare at you as if you're supposed to be feeding her lines. If not for how genuinely distressed she was when it came to speaking about her past, I don't think it would have taken long for someone to peel back the facade of her false identity.
She changed her name from Ireneve Guillaumont to "juSt NEv, plEase".

Whelp, now that we're thinking about it--
Regarding the meme I just did, I can't help but think about the AU wherein Ireneve never made it into Ishgard during the freeze. Her uncle dies before he can make sure she's safe, and she ends up one of the many like Ysayle who were turned away.
Her journey intertwines with Ysayle's. Ireneve becomes her closest confidante. She watches her obsession with Shiva twist her into a different person. Before Ysayle unleashes the dragons on Ishgard, Ireneve tries to stop her, of course. You're going too far, Ysayle. Please, I know you know this isn't going to fix things--
Ysayle, for the first time, uses violence against her. And Ireneve just. Stops. Sits there, despondent. Because she is powerful. There is a reason Lady Iceheart keeps her so close. Because if they start trading blows in earnest, Ireneve might have to sacrifice one life for the many. A life that she values deeply.
When Ysayle returns, Ireneve receives confirmation of what she has done.
She leaves. She offers her assistance to Ishgard and the Scions. If Ysayle must be stopped, she will be. But Nev will not be the one to deliver the final blow, if she can help it. She can't. She couldn't...

which tragic death would you suffer?
Tumblr media
the betrayal__ you die at the hands of the person you love most. maybe there are tears in their eyes as they drive the sword into your chest, maybe there is none. there are certainly tears in yours. your mouth will open to ask 'why' only to spit blood instead. you will die never knowing if they loved you at all, wondering if you could've done something to prevent this, or if it was always going to end this way.

Are you obsessed with Ishgard's lore? Because I know that I'm obsessed with Ishgard's lore! I present to you a 116 page PDF that compiles all of the levequest descriptions from Coerthas Central Highlands (Observatorium and Whitebrim) and Ishgard (Temple Leves).
There's tons of fun little bits of useless silly trivia to downright harrowing worldbuilding about Ishgard's religion and military practices. So, enjoy!

“hiraeth”
— (hɨraɪ̯θ), noun | A Welsh, untranslatable feeling, hiraeth is loosely described as a homesickness for a home you cannot return to anymore or a place, which never even existed. Connotations of sadness, yearning, profound nostalgia, and wistfulness are imbued into the state of hiraeth. Overall this beautiful, but painful longing is an expression of an empty desire and grief over a past life or place. It is the ultimate signifier of a bond, which has ceased to exist.   (via wordsnquotes)
