a few quotes from Sophie Jarry article for Vogue about her favourite photos.
"A few hours before their concert at the Hammersmith Apollo, around 5 p.m.. The first day I met Miles Kane for a photo shoot, he offered to photograph him with Alex Turner when they came back together in Paris. It was finally in London, 4 months later, that we found ourselves on the day of their concert at the Hammersmith Apollo.
My objective was simple: to photograph their complicity, their personality, their poetry.
I then asked them to chat among themselves and to forget about me. I have already taken photos with Miles several times and it was very easy and very natural for him not to pay attention to me; then Alex often looked at me. I am quite disturbed by the fact that the day fell so quickly and it seems to me that it is Miles, much more than myself, who will have, through his involvement, his naturalness and his enthusiasm, given shape to our session photo."
I was completely obsessed by the Rascals' first album, from the first listen, then by the personality, the spirit, the enthusiasm, the laughter and the accent of Miles Kane. I immediately thought of him for my exhibition, and although he doesn't usually take photos without his band, he agreed that we’ll do a session together. This portrait was taken in the hotel garden. Miles then suggested that I continue the session and we took more photos along the Canal Saint Martin. If I had to remember just one meeting, just one artist this year, it would be him.
every time i rewatch the miracle aligner music video i am just flabbergasted. FLABBERGASTED. like. they really chose to make it like THAT. and by 'like THAT' i am specifically referring to:
1) “an attempt to extract the truth... approximately" *cue rosepetals and intense eye contact*
2) THIS being the opening shot of the two of them
3) miles legitimately spending the first minute of the entire video blatantly checking alex out
4) literal rainbow lighting around them
5) endless hand holding and twirling
6) that moment where miles's hand reaches ever so reflexively for alex's neck
Happy birthday to The Age of the Understatement, which was released on April 15, 2008.
“Doing the Shadow Puppets album was when I started to think of what I did as songwriting. Songwriters always reminded me of that kid at school who would go around with his guitar, like, ‘Yeah, songwritin’ man,’ looking wistful. That wasn’t me—those kinds of people put me off. In the early days, I’d write a bunch of lyrics and almost look at them as a sort of joke, to make the rest of the boys laugh. And then we’d jigsaw all these parts together to make the tunes. With the Last Shadow Puppets album, Miles and I took a much more traditional approach, thinking about melodies and chords, melodies and lyrics. That opened the door to more of a purist approach. Every time you write a song, you’re looking for some sort of perfection, and you never quite reach it. You’re always looking for that extra missing piece.”
