“We were never promised any of it — this world of cottonwoods and clouds — when the Big Bang set the possible in motion. And yet here we are, atoms with consciousness, each of us a living improbability forged of chaos and dead stars. Children of chance, we have made ourselves into what we are — creatures who can see a universe of beauty in the feather of a bird and can turn a blind eye to each other’s suffering, creatures capable of the Benedictus and the bomb.”

Process for my latest digital painting. Lots of rookie mistakes in the beginning as I hadn’t planned out my sketch and linework so there were a lot of changes along the way. I’m still pretty proud of the final result. My girl Bella from the Last of Us as I imagine her to look in the second season. Very much reminiscing the game art from TLOU2.

Ellie Part II
Expressing my obsession with this franchise by painting Bella’s Ellie in the all too famous still from Part II of the game.
I anticipate the second season to be nothing less than a masterpiece and Bella’s performance to be stellar.
The video games were my escape during quarantine and now that the show is in full swing I can’t hold back my excitement to see other people enjoying this story as much as I do.

Johan Barrios, "Encounters."
Currently on view at Kirk Gallery in Denmark is artist Johan Barrios's solo exhibition, "Encounters."
Of the new body of work, Johan explains: “This exhibition strives explore the subjective greatness of the being that is freed from any weight and embarks on a lightness that distances and isolates it from all kinds of emotion and expression. The figures are almost sculptural, inanimate objects that lack any chromaticism or distraction. As they pass through the space that frames them, they find themselves colliding with each other. Every piece has as a dreamlike scenario where the dream is the place where these “encounters” happen."
"My work uses the drawing as a medium that allows me to explore my continuing interest in concepts such as time, movement and space, as well as the notions of solitude and intimacy. Starting from a permanent balance between the materiality of the processes and the definition of figuration in the contemporary context.”

« I took a spirit into my soul and changed myself forever to achieve this. This is the justice all mages have awaited. »
I would not say that Anders is my favorite character, but he plays an insanely important role in the world of Thedas, and his story is very interesting and tragic. I wanted to portray Anders as a guiding light for the rebellious mages. The sun, which does not warm, but burns. Something like that. And his cat, of course, is also here :)

Kim Cogan’s “Here Nor There.”
Opening on Saturday, October 2nd, 2021 at Hashimoto Contemporary in San Francisco, California is artist Kim Cogan’s sublime solo exhibition, “Here Nor There.”
For his latest collection of paintings, the artist depicts a vision of the city that is both lived-through and longed-for.
With fluency and warmth, Cogan ruminates on his connection to the city and what it means to have a sense of place during a time of isolation and distance. Substituting discovery with longing, the artist is drawn to places long established and frequently visited, yet still somehow remaining out of reach. Vacant, boarded up storefronts, dismantled landmarks—these spaces beckon vividly even as they seem to shut us out.
Cogan’s process is fluid and spontaneous. Definition emerges over layers of broad brushstrokes. Colors blend and transform over time, illuminating images into view. He elects to idealize, with his expressive use of light and tone, places that hold special meaning, as in the painting Edge of the World where vintage cars transport viewers to a nostalgic state of mind, as do hazy street corners and city skylines. While dream-like, Cogan’s work is also haunted by the urgency of reality.
Portraying the emotional relationship between time, place and memory is central to Cogan’s work. While isolation caused by the pandemic has separated the artist’s connection to his city, it has also sharpened his creativity into something more vivid. As the geographer Yi-Fu Tuan wrote, “Here is a seeming paradox: thought creates distance and destroys the immediacy of direct experience, yet it is by thoughtful reflection that the elusive moments of the past draw near to us in present reality and gain a measure of permanence.”
