Day One - Camping

Something large brushed against her one-person tent and Raven’s heart stopped, terror shooting through her veins. She shrank back into her sleeping bag, quickly locking her phone to extinguish the light and clenched her jaw to keep from gasping, wide eyes fixed on the tent’s zipper.

Fic writing/life update

Hey guys, I realized I hadn't updated anything for almost two months and probably won't be able to for a while yet, so I thought I'd write a little ditty to assure whoever's still reading my stuff that my fics aren't abandoned -- just paused.

Some unexpected health issues popped up and that's what I've been dealing with for the past month or so. I feel normal but according to my doctors (that's right, I have multiple now!) my blood panels say otherwise. I just feel really fatigued and they're like 99% sure it's an autoimmune disease but scheduled a biopsy for October to make sure it's not the big C word.

All of that to say, my mind has been on other things, and I just can't dedicate the mental and emotional space to consistently work on Insomnia in order to regularly update it. I've been working on it here and there, but my heart isn't in it right now and after all the effort and planning I've put into it, I'm not about to phone it for the second half. But I am still working on it! Just irregularly, in the background.

I have started my BBRae Week stuff, though!

fanfiction can be better than the source material because the source material is almost always this carefully planned marketing strategy, full of meticulously calculated editor choices and alterations of the creator's vision made to keep investors happy.

but fanfiction is the work of a deranged freak who's overly passionate and wrote it out of nothing but pure love.

or pure hate.

or pure lust.

but either way. it's something pure.

something fascinating. with endless potential. and you'll never ever see a compromise on the artist's vision. fanfiction is the totality of someone's freak.

and I love it for that reason.

Insomnia update!

Chapter 27: Dawn

8 a.m. Jump City, California

Raven startled awake, heart racing as red lights flashed in the common area, the shrieking sound of the sirens grating against her ears. Disoriented from being pulled out of a deep sleep, panic gripped her chest, made worse by the blankets tangling around her legs. She gasped, wheeling around wildly as a hand closed around her wrist.

Green. The hand was green. Her mind began to clear and, glancing up, she met emerald eyes.

“Easy-- it’s the alarm for the city, not the tower,” Gar said, almost yelling to be heard. “No one’s gotten in.”

She nodded and took a deep breath to calm herself.

“This is bad.”

Insomnia Update

Chapter 26: Premonition

5 p.m. Jump City, California.

7 p.m. Houston, Texas. Minneapolis, Minnesota.

8 p.m. New York City, New York.

Raven watched from her spot on the couch as Dick began writing on a large dry-erase board that he had dragged from his office into the living room. He and Kori had decided that it would be a good idea to make a list of everything they knew about the various cases they were researching. Dick wrote the name ‘DeVecka,’ underlined it, and began bulleting facts about the family when a green Norwegian Forest cat jumped into Raven’s lap, pulling her from her reverie.

The corners of Raven’s mouth twitched as the cat circled twice, kneading her thighs as he went, before deciding he had found the perfect spot and flopped over on his back, exposing his impossibly fluffy belly. She buried her hand in the fur between the cat’s front legs and began scratching. The cat immediately closed his eyes and, purring loudly, started kneading the air.

Raven shook her head, unable to keep from smiling at just how loud he was.

“You’re ridiculous,” she murmured.
