man i had so many fun ideas for mermay and pride month but nooooo I just had to get my ass beat by an infection and shit for the last month and a half. Also, this just in: having chronic sleeping issues + recovering from an infection+ not doing well in the heat makes for a very interesting combo and maybe meeting the hat man at 6 AM

anyway, drew Kaveh in a scene from a fanfic I'm reading and I'm counting it as a pride piece because... Kaveh's gay and I technically finished it at 11 last night

hey! look! art for a fanfic that has seen the light of day!

So aot's finale a few months back maybe my brain temporarily regress to 2014 and i was bitten by the need to desecrate canon with a silly fanfic (its ABO, fair warning) and then i was like 4 chapters in and i really extra wanted to do art for it and i, cannot, draw Jean and Marco to my satisfaction, this is the closest we're getting.

So...

This is Etienne, he's from Fontaine and half oceanid. Why? because I can, and also from recent events we know they are capable of having human forms. Though I made him up waaay before that. In fact, when i made him the only reference i had for fontaine fashion was the first images of Lyney and Lynette. I guessed that most of the fashion was going to be a tamer version of rococo. like rococo diet. and uh, i think i was pretty on point there. I'm sure lolita and boystyle played a big part in their decisions with fontaine too (but those were based partially on rococo so im still right) The goal of his appearance was to look like a little noble dude. just a princely fellow. I imaging his fighting style would mostly mimic actual fencing technique along with bits of other fighting styles (mimicking the ones used in sumeru, unsure of which irl region they're based on but I'd guess the middle east and parts of africa bc duh) His signature weapon is the Ocean bound saber and it's made from an entirely made up material i pulled out of my ass, iron coral which is basically just really tough/sharp coral. His constellation translates to 'wandering mermaid/siren' i was fairly certain there isn't a male version of mermaid in latin and didn't want to confuse the translator with merman so. thems the brakes.

Back Story!

Etienne is the result of a human man and an Oceanid couple, his father died during the cataclysm and his mother, unwilling to leave his final resting place, was consumed as well. He went on to follow the other oceanids out of fontaine, ultimately the small group got scattered in the desert, resulting in him being left alone. which was uber bad since he is half human and needs to eat. also he most certainly can get heat stroke. He ended up fainting in a small underground oasis that was home to Dhana. She and several other non-humans made up a group of muses loyal to Rukkhadevata, they had given themselves over to the land similarly to their archon to help stabilize Sumeru in the aftermath of the cataclysm. Dhana has very little energy left and can't fully retain a physical form, she asks Etienne to bring water to her, as she has been sustaining the oasis on her own dendro powers almost entirely and it's draining her dry. he does and also looks for more of the muses to direct water to them as well, ultimately he only finds one and uses his powers to carve a tunnel between the two and keep the water flowing. both muses heal incredibly slowly and as such, he spent the last 400 years in a circuit between them, keeping them hydrated.

(Story quest! Vaga Syreni ch i) When the traveler meets him, he enlists their help talking to Nahida and getting her to resurrect the all muses . The first two are both able to awaken in their physical forms again, but the other muses are too far gone to be saved. Instead, they collect sapling trees from each oasis and plant them in Avidiya forest for them to eventually be reborn. Dhana, Etienne and the second muse that I haven't named yet return to the city with Nahida to help with the akedemiya and all the bulshit happening over there.
