Concepts for redesigning characters from Beetlejuice! This is all for a potential AU I’ve had tumbling around in my head! Bugs are often associated with death and decay, so I thought: what if the ghosts and demons if the story were bugs?

Notes Below!

Beetlejuice’s design is meant to combine aspects from the movie (smaller size pre-summoning, car salesman aesthetic), cartoon (rounder and more appealing design, tiny shoes), and the musical (banishment backstory, green flood hair, incredibly raggedy). He’s most associated with dung beetles.

Lydia’s design is meant to be more realistic than Beej’s, with elements from the film and the musical. Her everyday outfit is heavily inspired by the cartoon iteration, focusing on a spider motif.

The Maitlands are mostly inspired by their musical iterations, but slightly exaggerated with more toon propotions. They’re moths!

Juno is meant to combine aspects from both the film and the musical, being both Beej’s former boss and mother. She’s a black widow spider.

So I am in a media class, and as a big project I am writing a book about charecter design. My teacher wanted to see what I could do. So I told her I'd draw beetljuice in different styles. She was confused at first but she was pretty happy with the outcome. I thought I'd post the outcome here cuz I mean it’s got our boi.

Big old Baby Boy, been playing around trying to settle a proper design for my Beej! I love his shifting-hair, and i have a THOUGHT….His hair goes purple when he’s upset, yeah? I want to think that the longer he is sad (or the more instense the feeling is) the more limp his hair becomes, and the darker the purple gets and meybe it starts to get incrementally longer to exaggerate the sadness- it takes a few days of constant upset-ness for it to reach maximum sad-capacity, at which point it’s nearing black and just laying completely flat and limp.

He got that Bowie-esque anisocoria but it’s only real apparent when he’s doing the puppy dog eyes
