Hello! My name is Victoria Arms, I use she/her pronouns and I’m a senior majoring in creative and strategic advertising. I have two little shih tzus at home and I miss them a lot. I hope that I can interact with others who also are critical of popular culture and learn from them.

Culture is the traditions, norms, and way people connect to others similar to them. Recently I only watch animated television series (Bojack Horseman, Bob’s Burgers, Futurama, Rick and Morty, etc.) and the Bachelor series (The Bachelorette and Bachelors in Paradise included). I am in advertising so I do produce media like illustrations, photoshopped images, and different kinds of art but most of it is private and none of it is commercially used (yet). Of course I’m a consumer of media, it is impossible in this day and age to not be a consumer of media. There’s billboards, ads on buses, even just walking on the street there are stickers on lampposts advertising a cool local band or a political candidate. I am critical of media, I used to be a lot more critical but it takes a lot of energy and it makes life less fun. Sometimes I just want to jam to a catchy song and not worry about the problematic messages it promotes. It is important to understand the implications of supporting people that send problematic messages to the public, but at the same time I personally, at the time, am not going to interrupt what I’m doing to tell everyone how terrible the messaging is of whatever we’re listening to (unless it’s Chris Brown). So yes, I am critical but I am not outspoken about it.
