AARC Select: INsight Rehs Contemporary, is pleased to announce their upcoming exhibit, ARC Select: INSIGHT, (rehs.com/eng/insight_preview), presenting new works by the winners of the Rehs Contemporary Galleries Award in the 15th ARC Salon Competition. Opening to the public on May 26 from 4pm – 8pm, INSIGHT features artwork by 5 international artists of various nationalities – Jesús Inglés and Arantza Sestayo (Spanish), Alexandra Klimas (Dutch), Roman Pankov (Ukrainian), and Anne-Marie Zanetti (Australian). The show will remain on view through June 24. The ARC is accepting entries to the 16th ARC Salon, now through June 16. This makes the International ARC Salon Competition the most influential and far-reaching competition for Contemporary Realism in the world, with over $130,000 in cash awards and international recognition through partnerships with prestigious magazines, galleries, and museums, with live exhibitions and a strong online presence. Writing for the Visual Arts - Florence Academy of Art

September 26 - December 9 Taught remotely from the Florence campus November 28 - December 9 In-person option in Florence If you would like to write with mastery about figurative art, or simply further your knowledge of art history and the history of literature about art, this course will survey figurative art throughout the ages, while examining the techniques that literature has historically used to write about art. Starting with the Ancient Greeks and Romans, progressing on to the Medieval period, the arrival of Humanism, the rediscovery of Classical forms, the establishment of the Academies during the Renaissance, and the role of the Academies through the Early Modern period, you will learn to analyze select works by their medium, composition, subject matter, and patronage, and to place them within the greater context of the long tradition of figurative art. By studying the rhetorical techniques that literature has historically used in writing about art, you will develop your writing skills through short weekly exercises, moving step-by-step from literary strategies to the organization and construction of a solid expository essay by the end of the course. In-person Option: Students may experience the Florence Academy from within to understand how students train to become figurative painters and sculptors, while also touring the main museums, galleries, and churches of Florence, during the final 2 weeks of class. From Hassam to Wyeth: Gifts from Doris and Shouky Shaheen

This exhibition celebrates Doris and Shouky Shaheen's recent gift of twelve American oils and watercolors to the Norton Museum of Art. Ranging in style from Impressionism to Realism, the works demonstrate how American painters continued to depict the nation's distinctive and evolving landscape from the late 19th into the 20th centuries. In addition to Childe Hassam and Andrew Wyeth, artists represented include William Glackens, Jane Peterson, Edward Henry Potthast, John Henry Twachtman, Guy Wiggins, and Wyeth's son, Jamie.
