Global tariffs, and
Innocents detained
Can only mean
UNAVOIDABLE CONFRONTATION
Medium/Materials Used:
Concrete wall
Projector
Laptop/Computer
Vehicle (for transport)
Adapter cable
Dimensions: Undeterminable
Paragraph Statement of Intent:
This video was created to bring attention to an issue that often goes unnoticed but affects many people. As college students entering and stepping into a new environment, it’s important for us to recognize the power we have to create and develop change—even through the small actions we make everyday. The video uses visual storytelling to engage the public eye and spark conversation among them. Our goal was to make something thought-provoking and relatable, especially for other students like us. We hope it encourages viewers to take a moment to reflect, ask questions, and become more aware of the world around them.

Viral Interventions (3 Proposals)
PROPOSAL #1
This proposal envisions using a projector to visually communicate complex global issues to the general public through public installations in urban spaces such as city squares, transit hubs, or galleries. The projected content follows a conditional logic structure-- "if mass layoffs," "global tariffs," and "innocents detained"-- leading to the conclusion of "unavoidable confrontation." By presenting these escalating scenarios in a clear, visual format, the installation aims to provoke awareness and reflection on the interconnected nature of global events, engaging audiences who might not otherwise confront these realities. Although many may not relate to these scenarios, they can express their empathy and sympathy whilst acknowledging them.
PROPOSAL #2
This version of the project uses large cardboard signs spray-painted with phrases like “Mass Layoffs,” “Global Tariffs,” “Innocents Detained,” and “Unavoidable Confrontation” to show how global issues can escalate. The signs are held up like protest posters, creating a powerful and direct visual message. The intended audience is the general public, especially people who might not normally engage with global or political topics. The best venue for this project would be busy public areas such as city streets, parks, or college campuses where people are likely to stop, notice, and reflect on the message. The use of handmade signs adds a raw, human element that makes the message feel more immediate and relatable. This format also invites others to join in or respond, encouraging public dialogue.
PROPOSAL #3
This version of the project involves writing key phrases like “mass layoffs,” “global tariffs,” and “innocents detained” repeatedly to form a larger image, such as a crumbling tower. The repetition creates both a visual and conceptual buildup, showing how constant exposure to these issues can feel overwhelming or lead to collapse. The audience for this project is students and young adults who are used to digital information but may be impacted by a more physical, visual form of communication. Ideal venues would include school hallways, libraries, or gallery walls where viewers can pause and look closely. The handwritten text gives the work a personal, human feel, while the structure of the image helps viewers understand the weight these issues carry.

Viral Interventions (PRESENT)
In this collaborative video, I contributed by visually representing how art can connect ideas and bring awareness to its surroundings, whether discreet or pronounced. My main objective in the project was to highlight the relationship between technology and creativity. By using a computer in a public setting in a library, I was able to show how technology is capable of valuing different perspectives. Through this project, I had the opportunity to explore my creative process and learning from my peers. I found it exciting to work on something so collaborative and to see how different elements came together to create a unified message. My response to this video ties into themes of accessibility and inclusivity in digital media. The collaboration is an example of how diverse perspectives can increase reader engagement. Generally, this collaboration allowed me to push my boundaries and try new creative methods. I hope viewers will acknowledge the effectiveness of teamwork and how technology can bridge gaps between different cultures and ideas.

QCQ Assignment (Art 21 -- Barbara Kruger)
QUOTE: "I remember going to the galleries when I was young--totally intimidated! Certain works have to be decoded. I think the availability of my work was important to me, because I was that viewer who didn't understand--who didn't know the codes."
COMMENT: I chose this quote because it highlights the how art can feel exclusive and difficult to understand for many people. Barbara Kruger acknowledges that galleries can be intimidating, and I relate to this because I have also felt lost when trying to interpret art. Her desire to make her work accessible is meaningful because it challenges the idea that art should only be for those who "know the codes." I appreciate that she uses bold fonts and direct messages to engage a wider audience. It makes me think about how art can be a tool for communication rather than just an elite experience.
QUESTION: Do you think art should always be accessible, or is there value in keeping some art complex and challenging to understand? Should artists cater to a broad audience, or is it okay for them to create work that only certain people can "decode"? How does accessibility in art impact its meaning and value?

Things That Perform: Covering The Body (In The World Final)
"I've Got My Head Stuck In The Clouds"
Materials: Cardboard box, hot glue, cotton balls, string lights, construction paper.
Dimensions: 19 x 26 inches
For the first public situation, I wanted to test my introvertedness, so I went to Starbucks and ordered a cup of water, while I refrained from explaining my appearance to the kind employee.
For the second one, I went to Barnes and Noble, where I found the inspiration for my project from an illustrated children's book. It's similar to the tree stump I composed out of cardboard when I took an everyday object and made it using other materials.
For the third situation, I tried interacting with surrounding artworks in the Frost Museum. I even pointed at the image to better express the attention an artwork may receive.

Minimal Actions: Framing the Body (Final Submission)

Frame of Reflection
Framing the Body
16 x 16 inches
The purpose of this project was to convey a value we must all acknowledge in today's society. I gained inspiration from the quote, "A closed mind is a dying mind," and I wanted to incorporate the idea that we should not shy away from expressing our genuine selves and personalities. I wanted both myself and any viewer to be the subject of the structure, just as one becomes the subject of a photo when one's presence is documented and acknowledged. This project is a representation of the verb "to open." Rather than allowing others to doubt every aspect of themselves, I encourage them to achieve a sense of satisfaction. In my perspective, we are enough because we survive each day. Refraining from self-expression enables our peers to give us well-deserved care. Completing this project was enjoyable and stressful. There were many trials and errors resulting in my final composition. However, this piece made a positive impact on my self-esteem. I realized that I may hesitate to express my most genuine self, and if I continue to do so, my mindset will only worsen as time passes.

Measuring the Body (Final)
Measuring the body in 3 different ways using everyday/common household objects.
Medium/materials: (Video #1) Books. (Video #2) Pool towels. (Video #3) Traffic cone.
Utilizing household items, this project delved into the relationship between my surroundings and the memories I associate with my past and present memories. In the first clip, the communal office, which contains every novel I love to read, reminds me of my never-ending adoration for reading. These novels, in particular, resemble the innocence of my childhood. The smell of well-loved and brand-new books reminds me of happier times when my mother and I visited Barnes and Noble while we sipped on our lattes. In the second clip, I am in our guest bathroom, which my family calls the "beach/pool bathroom," which reminds me of my past residence in Norfolk, Virginia. This bathroom resembles the environment I had once lived in and my relationship with my siblings in our early childhoods. My love for the beach and my love for my siblings will never cease to exist. The third clip, the West 10 parking lot, reminds me of the playfulness I commonly associate with my childhood. The traffic cones found within the parking lot remind me of happier times when my sisters and I would pretend to be princesses by using the cone as a crown. The love I have for princesses and the love I have for my sisters will never diminish. This project correlates my personal experiences to my surroundings in a reflective manner.

Things that Preform - Covering The Body (Final)

For my final project I created a cloud out of cotton balls, an Amazon box, string lights, plastic string, and colored paper. The base of the cloud is cotton balls with string lights attached by hot glue. Near the bottom I salvaged some construction paper from a previous project, glued them to the plastic strings, and attached them to the base of the cloud. Then I recycled an old headband by removing the fabric to reduce it to its basic form, and glued it into the interior.
This project reflect my innermost self because it is a cloud which is very integral to nature and the world in its entirety. This is the first thing I acknowledge when I look when I leave my house or spend time in the open. The nature aspect of this project reflect my uniqueness on Earth.
