Sono Credenza
Continuing to explore inlay pattern, now applied on credenza door.
S8-7 Basic Chair
A tease to show how important to understand ergonomic in a design. The chair backrest may seem uncomfortable on the first look. But when you sit on, you will be surprised by how comfortable the backrest is. The key is to make it on the right ergonomic measurement.

S8 Chair
Design by Anastasia Sulemantoro
S8 stands for "slondok 8", a Javanese snack which shaped like the 8 number. Done in 2011, this chair was made for IFDA competition with the objective to combine wood and rattan. Chair frame made from solid sungkai wood. The rattan core is shaped like an S or 8 letter. Although the rattan seems to be only a small part of the chair, when you sit on it you can really feel the strong yet flexible character of rattan. The whole chair brings out a 'crisp' image, yet humble, just like the nature of the Javanese.聽

Ringkes / RKS Inlay Table
Design by Anastasia Sulemantoro
Pattern design in collaboration with Andre Liongson
In the early 2013, Indonesian Furniture Designer Association (HDMI) held a workshop titled "Hands of Japara". In the workshop, I learn that inlay technique have been around for so many years yet it seems to be stuck in the 'old' style looking product. After some brainstorming session, I lay the idea of a very practical multipurpose table. The leg is knock down with a very simple structure, made it easy for people with small living space. I notice that people like to put on table cloth to decorate their table, yet it adds more work to have to replace and wash the table cloth often. With integrated pattern, now you only need to simply clean your table top every now and then. The name "Ringkes" is an Indonesian word means practical.

Closer look on the beauty, manually crafted one by one by the skillful hand in Jepara.

NA Easy Chair
Design by Anastasia Sulemantoro聽
Antique open rattan skin weaving (peel), solid teak wood frame.
Inspired by traditional bamboo home ware.

NA stands for "ngeunah" which means "delicious" in Sundanese language. On this case, it can also means "comfortable". The chair have a low back seating just enough for lumbar support. We try to play and push the boundary of ergonomic, to make all the dimension just enough to support human body. The result is an effective & efficient chair that is very comfortable to sit on.

Pepe
Design by Anastasia Sulemantoro
Pepe is a table inspired by "pepes", an Indonesian food which explains the way it is cooked inside a banana leaf. To close the end of the leaf, it is clamped by a piece of stick. So does the rattan on this table is clamped by the metal leg. This experimental product is a result of a workshop between HDMI & SFIC (Singapore) in late 2012.

CF Living Room Set
Design by Anastasia Sulemantoro聽
CF stands from - Casual Formal, is a living room set out of lasio rattan weaving and teak wood leg. Inspired by the softness of a fabric that can be shifted to a strong + sharp look by folding and giving a fine line like the collar in a casual shirt that gives a formal appearance to the whole looks.
The flexibility of rattan allows an integrated cushion underneath the weaving.

Structure making.

Scale model development before making the real product

Started out in 2010 from Rock N Drool / RnD chair, the first ever furniture piece I ever made for 3rd grade college studio task. The base of the chair can be flipped to convert the chair from rocking mode to a static chair. The chair continues to be developed to conform market demand.
