Dance with Ashura.
Japanese breakdown:
Vertical white text: 阿修羅と舞う(あしゅらとまう) - Pronounced “Ashura toh mah-ooo”, which means Dance with Ashura. This is just the title text, but Ashura themselves are deities in Buddhism that are ton between violence and enlightenment.
Wrist text: 平和 (へいわ) - Pronounced “heh-ee-wah”, which means Peace. The positioning is important here. In the piece, it’s shown right side up due to how the character is holding their arm, but with the tattoo placement, if their arm was in a resting position, it would technically be an upside down tattoo, symbolizing the opposite of peace or ‘turning peace upside down”.
Knuckle Hiragana: ごくどう(極道) - Pronounced “go-coo-doh-oo”, which means two separate things depending on how it’s written. In Kanji - 極道 - this translates directly to Yakuza, which is cool in it’s own right, but isn’t what I was going for here. In Hiragana, as it’s shown, this means wicked/immoral/evil, depending on the context. Here, all three fit.
Tiny thumb knuckle tat: 四 - Pronounced “yon”, or “shi”, which translates to the number 4. I chose this because, in Japan, the number 4 is considered unlucky due to its original pronunciation of “shi”.The reason for this is because “shi” is also the pronunciation for the Kanji 死, which means Death in Japan.
Lastly, the shirt print: 獄炎 (ごくえん)- Pronounced “go-coo-en”, which can be interpreted as Hellfire, or Prison Flames. Hellfire sounds much cooler, but the director Kanji is Prison獄 Flames炎
Hope you enjoy! 🙃

Unreal

'Enter the Dojo' - Digitally hand drawn, 2025
The path ahead is long and winding. Each scar a lesson, each victory a stepping stone toward something greater. As the wind whispers through the sakura petals, he is unshaken. His mind sharp, his body honed, his soul at peace. Today, the training begins anew. Enter the Dojo
