Emilia: Uneasy
The innkeeper bent over the counter to grab the key for one of the guest rooms. "We have a new guest," they say to the barmaid: "a young woman who blew in right before the weather turned."
"More customers is always good, are they friendly?" the barmaid responds, craning her neck to scan the small crowd.
"Friendly, sure, but she's a bit of an odd girl too..." The innkeeper turned to point their new visitor out, only to find her tucked away in the corner of the busy room staring right at them. Her gaze was intense, but not threatening. If anything she looked very...

Wielder of the Blade of Boreas
I recently filled my very first sketchbook! I wanted the last drawing to be something special, and I ended up liking it so much I wanted to make a digital version too.
I've been thinking about how I'll eventually illustrate my stories for these characters, so I used this to experiment with halftones and limited colours.
Anyway; I decided that if I'm writing a fantasy I want it to have magic swords, so I'm giving one to Nico. There was a lot of back and forth on what kind of magic would fit him before I settled on a sword that contains the power of a blizzard (specifically a little bit of the Polar vortex). Named the Blade of Boreas (liable to change), it's had a number of wielders in ages long past and initially wrote Nico off as unworthy to wield it. I'll leave how he manages to get past that a surprise for now :>

i think we as a society need to use cell phones/laptops/cars/backpacks to flesh out characters
#Nico Blodau#'s phone has a clear case that he keeps pictures of his friends and loved ones in#he has a single dangly phone charm with a silly name he got from Luna#and everyone is in his phone by first name and a colour coded heart#Tharika el Phis#has a military-grade phone case that can withstand practically anything and she saves everyones unflattering pictures#lily smith#has a similarly tough phone and a very neutral background but all of her friends are listed under nicknames#she doesn't even really use nicknames in conversation#she'll just list you under “privilege junior” in her phone with no further explanation#my characters#i speak in tags

Doodledump of recent emotional campaign moments! I'd like to draw and colour some of these digitally but what can I say I've been busy :p (with that animatic from a week ago)
Context for these moments under the cut!
The session before the last one, we got sent a number of reusable spell scrolls that we'd ordered in a different town. Among them was a spell scroll for Sending, so Nadia immediately jumped at the opportunity to call her mom (her whole family was kidnapped a few months ago by the Big Bad). She asked in a rush if her mom was alive, if the rest of her family was ok. She told them she was on her way, but got cut off by the word limit before she could promise she'd make them proud. Her mother responded that she was ok, although not all of them are, she warned her to be cautious. She told Nadia she was already making them proud, ending with "We love you Rosebud". Nadia felt electrified hearing her mother's voice again after worrying for so long if she was still alive, cried big sappy ghibli tears, and was now more determined than ever.
Last session, Rowann (the party's bloodhunter) regained some family. She'd thought her whole family was killed and their kingdom destroyed by the big bad, but then she received a letter claiming to be from her aunt. She wasn't sure if she could believe it until she was right there, and she finally had someone who felt like home again. Meanwhile her aunt had similarly thought she was the last one alive, so when the two saw each other again they immediately fell into each other's arms.
In order to figure out the (werewolf adjacent) curse caused by the BBG going around, Rowann's aunt (who is the leader of a resistance group) needed someone with magical knowledge. We said goodbye to a partymember as Alex (our wizard) decided to stay here and help off of the battlefield. [this had been discussed by the players and DM, it was a PC switch, Alex has become a lovable NPC now]. Nevertheless it was an emotional moment for both Alex and Nadia -basically the last family each of them have- to say goodbye to travelling together.

Tweaking Emilia's design with new shoes and thigh high socks; I'm actually really happy with how this sketch came out! (so I might make a digital coloured version too)

I made this animatic of my partner's OC Red escaping the claws of his vampire court!
It was a lot of work but it was fun to dip my proverbial toe into animation, I've been watching animatics and videos by animators for a long time. :D
