masterful move by one of my profs to announce changes to lecture times, not by notifying everyone through our class page thingy’s announcements doohickey (which would notify us by email and stuff) but instead by linking a pdf file on our class page with a few lines of text indicating said changes, with no notification that he’s done so.

managed to get windows 3.1 running on dosbox and installed audio and video drivers so i could experience mario teaches typing 2

only for it to refuse to launch without having me register my copy of the game with a company that either is defunct or does not do this stuff anymore

will look into it later but man i just wanted to see the silly mario head for myself why do i have to put in actual effort

a summary of an idiot (me)’s first airbnb experience and the general strangeness of the place:

first of all the place is fuckin crazy. it’s got 5 rooms and a full kitchen. in said kitchen there is a Fuck Ton of pepper (in a grinder and two containers full of packets) but no salt. why? good question. Anyways

the bed in the room i had was fuckin high up off the floor and very soft. too soft, actually, meaning my back was not very happy upon waking up. fun

bath mat in the bathroom still had a tag on it like it was just bought. very Interesting decision

we found a stray ps3 controller in one of the drawers. no ps3 in sight though. honestly this tracks

massage chair included though which goes kinda hard

there was a wii with twilight princess, call of duty and both star wars force unleashed games. the sole nunchuk did not work so it was pretty useless. a shame, really

also we figured out that the extension cord the wii was plugged into just did not work. why? good question

overall the place was very good but also very strange at times. my reaction to the strangeness of the place probably made my coworkers a bit worried about me (honestly i cant blame them) but it was funny thus yeah

also i made crepes while we were there (they were delicious). i need to cook more

collection of 11pm thoughts:

edmonton oilers lost game 7 of the stanley cup finals last week and i am still not very happy but judging by free agency stuff we might be back. very excited to see how the team does next season!

god i miss playing hockey. didnt have the time last year because of my courseload being stupid but i really miss skating and having the luck on my stick and just playing the sport. i also wish it was more accessible (equipment costs an arm and a leg, never mind fees for kids’ leagues and shit) because it really just is a great sport. also the nhl sucks at marketing it so theres that

webcomics go hard. sometimes i envy their creators because they can Draw and Create a compelling narrative and Indulge in interests through this medium. they are incredibly talented people and they make me wish i could be competent at art. at least i have music.

speaking on music i have been listening to rush almost exclusively for the past couple of years because i really vibe with their music. however i wanted to branch out so i was like “hmmm more prog mmyeas” and got into a bit of pink floyd and yes and then i decided to revisit artists i used to listen to such as queen and daft punk and it’s been a bit of a breath of fresh air for me in terms of listening to music. still really like rush though. can’t change that.

recently i switched to using opensuse tumbleweed as a daily driver and i have to say it makes things really cool. very smooth experience, couple bumps in terms of package stuff but that was easily resolved (thanks snapper!)

i have Work. i am doing summer camps and stuff and it is my first real job where i am getting paid a salary. barely above min wage but still this is a first for me! (i know dealing with children all day is going to be tiring but i volunteered with the same place last year so i guess i have experience? we shall see)

i want to do more youtube stuff but i suck at solo commentary over games because i just kinda get engrossed in a game and dont talk for a good bit. also i am Mega Lazy lol. honestly i just need to sit down and play something at this point.

started using opensuse recently and here are a few thoughts i’ve had so far:

- yast is awesome. takes a little bit to load but i love their stuff for software management, kinda reminds me of the thing for that they had on the raspberry pi distro like 7-8 years ago when i was actively using it (speaking of i should probably do something with it…) but yeah. it’s nice to have a proper gui to manage repo/package stuff instead of something like the kde discover app which i do not like very much

- snapper seems like it would be very useful Just In Case something terrible happens. seems cool and easy to use, havent needed to use it yet tho.

- getting nvidia drivers really isn’t too hard, the opensuse nvidia repos do it for you really easily (and also keep them updated! yay!) and you just have to do a bit of configuration to get it going (had a hard time getting it going because apparently I cannot read properly lol) .

- i like the idea of tumbleweed being rolling release but also really well-tested to make sure your system is still stable.

yeah that’s about it. just some observations

whenever i have to play a relatively competitive game against friends i dont take the game seriously because usually i either: a) have no idea what the fuck i’m doing or b) am so bad that it’s not worth trying. the results always amuse me because some of those friends get mad but really it’s their fault for being sweaty nerds
