ace walked the aisles of four corners market in absolutely no rush. he held a basket in his hands, a few select items in it, such as a packet of razors, a few apples and a candy bar. the last thing on his list was some rice, yet he hadn't been able to locate it on his three trips through the small market. "goddammit," he muttered to himself, growing increasingly frustrated. he was a grown ass adult, who couldn't find rice in a supermarket? how pathetic was that? he couldn't help but think back to his dad, who in his later years had helped ace rein in his temper, and ace did as the older had always instructed him to: take three deep breaths and try to view the situation from a different angle. he was on his third and last breath when he begun turning a corner and heard murmurs about a portal to hell, and instantly peeked at the woman, intrigued by her words. "excuse me? i'd like a warning if the floor is about to open up with a portal to hell," he joked and looked around the aisle for rice, "that way i can bring some popcorn."

as she navigated through the aisles, picking up things from her grocery list--sanem didn't realize her cart was about to hit someone else's until she heard the sound and the obnoxious scoff. turning her body towards the other person, she gave them a saccharine sweet smile before she spoke, "it's a good thing it only hit your cart and not you, so sorry about that." was it her fault? perhaps but it was also the other's since she was coming head on in the same direction. but instead of the other accepting the apology or even smiling back--the other just snarled at her and went off in the other direction, muttering something about sanem as she stood there in amusement. "did you see the way they looked at me? damn it's a miracle the floor didn't open up with a portal to hell for me." she murmured as she continued her shopping.

mornings were ace's least favorite part of the day. more often than not, he could schedule his day as he liked it and thereby avoid morning appointments. but with a client coming in from boston, he knew he needed to be up early to get ready for their nine am arrival. so... coffee. he'd stepped outside of common grounds to take a call from another prospective client, as he waited for his order to be ready. the tiredness had seeped into his bones, and the man needed nothing more than his two triple shot americanos to get his day started in the right way. ace hung up the phone and as he let a big yawn escape him, he turned back towards the door, accidentally bumping into someone. "oh shit," he exclaimed and took a step back, making no move to apologize yet. it wasn't until he took notice of the woman's face, that his eyes widened slightly and he cleared his throat. maybe this wasn't the woman whom he'd met at blue inn, where they'd both proceeded to over-share about their lives. maybe it wasn't the woman who in his drunken haze, he'd decided to spill his biggest secrets to. or maybe... maybe it was. "i'm sorry," he apologized and then raised his hand to scratch the back of his neck awkwardly, having no idea how to react.

a chuckle escaped him and the man looked towards the woman again, shrugging, "it's what i do." a complete joke, since it's only been a few years that ace has had any substantial income, but he's also never had problems sharing what he had. twenty bucks out of his pocket and in turn making someone happy? it wasn't even a question in his eyes. "you look like you enjoy watching a good brawl," he spoke, and a small smile appeared on his lips as he took her in from top to toe, followed by a short chuckle, making note that his prior words were a complete lie. she looked like the epitome of sophistication and class, sipping on wine and holding her head high. far from the type of women ace had surrounded himself with in the past and definitely not a woman who enjoyed a brawl. the cheers from the back of the room, merely made ace smile and he let out a short laugh. "glad i could make it happen," he said and raised his beer in a short and silent cheers to the woman. seeing her check her watch, he wondered whether she was waiting for her but didn't ask. as ace was intrigued by this unexpected company, instead of finishing off his beer and leaving, he decided another was in order. flagging down the bartender as politely as he can, he places an order before looking to his side again, "i'm ace." the introduction is short as he merely nods his head and doesn't make an effort to reach out his hand.

fully assuming that one stranger would go after the other , it came as very much of a surprise when he made no move , and in fact didn't seem to care. it makes flora think that she has no doubt surrounded herself with people who would be very willing to fight tooth and nail and sick four lawyers on one person for even thinking about taking a dime from under them. ❝ how philanthropic of you. here i thought i was going to witness a brawl transpire. ❞ she says , a touch of amusement in her flat tone. ❝ i'm sure you've made that man's night. ❞ as if on cue , a voice announces he's buying a round of drinks for his table , which an eruption of cheers can be heard. yes , one man has definitely made another's night. at least someone is having a decent time. checking the face of her slender wrist watch and seeing that another five minutes of passed , flora finishes off her wine and orders another. positive that she has officially been stood up , flora figures she may as well indulge herself while she's out. it's rare she allows herself time like this. to simply sit and enjoy some downtime. especially since moving to ashford four months ago , she hit the ground running work-wise.

ace sat at the bar of mix & fix, drinking a craft beer that was definitely not worth the money he'd paid for it. his go-to place was blue inn, but tonight it had seemed too crowded and he'd headed further down the street to the more upscale place. if you'd asked him twenty years ago if he'd ever thought he'd be at a classy bar that played jazz for atmosphere while drinking fancy beer that he'd paid entirely too much for, he would've called you a psycho. yet here he was. his back ached from hunching over at the shop doing an intricate back piece for a loyal client for eight hours, followed by drawing over his desk after he got home. ace noticed that he still had traces of charcoal on his hands and under his fingernails from drawing, but he ignored it in favor of another sip of his beer. when the drunken patron came closer, ace leaned back and cocked a brow at the intoxicated man, but didn't think more of it as the other left. "robbed?" he asked when the beautiful woman at his side spoke. patting himself down. when realizing all the man had taken was a twenty, ace shrugged his shoulders. "didn't take anything i couldn't be without," he stated. he knew better than anyone that the important things in life were free and these days he just counted himself lucky to be a free man. twenty dollars wouldn't hurt him. / @thearchitekt

(  🍸   ─────    About thirty minutes into her waiting game ( the game of how many drinks can the architect get through before her blind date shows up ) , a stranger , a mumbling mammoth of a man , came up the bar. He seemed overly friendly , seemingly very intoxicated from what Flora could see by the way he stumbled into the person beside flora , to her right , who was also situated at the bar and minding their own bussiness. That apparently was enough distraction to allow a slip of the hand and pull what he could from the other unsuspecting person. The whole interaction lasted less then twenty seconds. She would have missed it if she hadn't been already watching through an annoyed glance ; dark brows furrowed and rouge lips tight. Flora watches the drunk stranger leave , casting a glance over her left shoulder to see where the thief went : towards a corner booth , arms wide open while greeting two others with excitement. With a short blink , she looks back once more to the one who has just been had. ❝ I don't like being the one to inform you , but , ─ ❞ ( mostly because she didn't want to have to say anything , therefore getting herself involved ) ❝ I think you've just been robbed. ❞ she looks over their person for a moment , as an attempt to spot if there had been anything missing. Phone , keys , wallet ? Nothing seemed out of the ordinary ... Now , feeling as if she had done her civic duty of the evening in ringing the alarm so to speak , Flora turns her attention to where it had been in the beginning , her reyka rhubarb cosmopolitan.

( i'd like to apologize in advance to anyone reading this... i rambled )
TW: drugs, incarceration, terminal illness, death
CHILDHOOD
grew up in a trailer park near boston with a single dad, since his mom left when he was just a year old. his dad worked two jobs to help them survive and keep ashton on the right track. however he quickly started getting in trouble when he started school, with the teachers and especially with the other kids who would call him trailer trash.
TEENS
ashton begun hanging out with the wrong crowd. they were mainly rich kids who wiped their asses with hundred dollar bills and who turned to ashton for drugs, as he'd begun dealing them when he was fourteen. at fifteen he and this group of friends decided to take on of the kids' father's boat offshore. the boat crashed. the rich kids were let off with a warning, while ashton was put in juvenile detention for grand theft and property damage. it was during his time in lockup that he begun drawing and turning to art, as well as receiving the name ace from some of the other inmates. he got out at seventeen and moved back in with his father, with the promise to stay on the straight and narrow.
20s
at twenty one ace moved out of his father's house, in the hopes of chasing his dream of pursuing art. instead he fell in with the wrong crowd again, this time people from the trailer park like himself. three of them rented an apartment together, partied every night and gave people kitchen tattoos with a stolen tattoo gun, while drunk and high. it was during this time he realized how much art really helped him and how much he enjoyed tattooing. the friends slowly grew apart as ace realized he wanted to pursue tattooing, while his friends wanted to continue their lifestyle, many of who ended up in prison or dead. when ace was twenty nine, he received an apprenticeship with a small tattoo shop in boston. it was around this time his father reached out to mend fences, as he was terminally ill. the older wanted a relationship with his son and ace ended up moving in with his father in the same trailer he'd grown up in.
30s
ace worked as a factory worker and line cook at a fast food restaurant while apprenticing on the side, all in order to pursue his dream of becoming a certified tattoo artist and help pay his father's medical bills. at thirty two he reached that dream and was given a full time position at the shop, opting to celebrate with his father, whom he'd become close with again. at thirty three his father passed away, and immediately ace sold their trailer and moved into a run down apartment close to the shop. he dedicated his life to tattooing and at thirty four he had, through instagram, become a renowned artist in the tattoo world. he gave up his chair at the boston shop, and instead chose to travel the world, tattooing in random shops along his travels. earlier this year the mother he'd never known reached out to him, asking him to come back to the states so they could get to know each other. despite harboring nothing but hate and anger for the woman, he decided to come back and hear her out. as expected their meeting didn't go well, but by being back in the states for the first time in years, ace realized how much he missed it and ended up moving to ashford, getting a position at legacy ink. he did all this all in hopes of avoiding the trouble of the city he grew up in, while still remaining close enough to be able to take private clients in the city.
PERSONALITY
ace shows a casual lack of concern wherever he goes and in whatever he does. the only thing he really takes seriously is his job at legacy ink as well as his private gigs. he can seem careless and fun most days, but others he tends to retreat into himself and can become quite moody. this is mainly due to the fact that he feels alone in the world, not really having any close friends in ashford (yet) and having no family to speak of.
HEADCANONS
lives comfortably in a two bedroom apartment, since he made a good amount of money while traveling and tattooing. one of the rooms in his apartment is dedicated to his art, with many drawings and paintings in different places around the room.
has always wanted a dog, but has none as he doesn't know when he'll leave ashford and doesn't want to travel with a pet. ace does however spend time at the local shelter, helping out with walking the dogs.
has both his arms covered in tattoo sleeves, and a lower leg sleeve on his left leg. his right leg is bare, save for the small tattoos he did on his thigh when he was younger, and was practicing his craft.
hasn't ever really dated, but does want to try it out. however he's not good at making commitments and he doesn't know if he's going to stay in ashford, so he wonders what the point is, not wanting to string anyone along.
if ace makes a promise, he always keeps it, no matter the circumstance and no matter the promise.
