You can struggle with homicidal thoughts, violent psychosis, borderline rage, and intrusive thoughts -- and still be a decent person.
It's acting on them that's problematic, both for other people's safety. But also for your own. You deserve to be safe, too.
There is a lot of ugly symptoms of Cluster-B and dissociative disorders that get shunted to the side.
It's uncomfortable to talk about and admit.
But if you do struggle with these symptoms, you are not alone.

This is just my opinion, but I think it’s a pretty well-informed opinion.
DID is not as rare as some people think it is.
When psych 101 professors say things like, “DID is so rare most therapists will never see a case in their career,” they’re wrong. It’s not that rare.
DID is also not as common as some people think it is.
When people on tumblr, twitter, or discord say things like, “DID is as common as autism” or “DID is more common than schizophrenia,” they’re wrong too. It’s not that common.
DID affects somewhere between between 0.01% and 2% of the population. 2% is the high estimate.
tl;dr - I find it equally unhelpful when people act like DID is some ultra-rare unicorn disorder and when people act like DID is a common disorder. It’s neither. It is rare. It’s just not that rare.

Just a reminder to all systems that denial is part of the disorder. It's a covert disorder that is meant to keep you from knowing about your trauma. So having a hard time coming to terms with the fact that you are a system is hard for almost everyone. You are valid and no one can take that away from you. Denial is a coping mechanism and it's hard to stop.

some of yall aren’t ready for this but:
“having did is horrible for a lot of reasons and shouldnt be romanticized”
and
“its ok to do things like picrews of all alters just to have fun”
can and should coexist

I'm so, incredibly tired of singlets treating the DID community as something to be studied and picked apart and putting themselves up as these "crusaders" for people with DID.
This is with regards to a recent occurrence on TikTok with a specific system/person who I won't name because treating them like a specimen is beyond dehumanizing and genuinely sickening to my stomach.
I don't care if you think someone is faking DID, I don't care if there are "piles upon piles of evidence", it is not your place to fucking say. On one hand, they could be someone who's highly delusional, and doing all of this for attention -- that is still a cause for concern and we should be treating them with care, not with malice or disgust! And on the other hand, they could genuinely be a system and everything they experience is real -- not only is that not your call to make, but you would be a major asshole for ever saying otherwise and discounting their experiences and trauma!
The best fucking thing you can do, not only for this person, but also for those with DID as a whole? Is leave that person the fuck alone, get off your high horse, and actually try to learn about DID and what it is. Talk to people with systems. Empathize, because singlets will never, ever, know what it's like to have a dissociative disorder. Not in any capacity.
If you aren't a system, shut the fuck up. I don't want to hear it.

I would just like to say “people with DID don’t know they have DID” is, to put it plainly, misinformation and misinterpretation of DID as a whole. I believe a lot of people are now spreading this due to the surge in tiktok attention seekers, faking the disorder for clout and entertainment. The statement probably assumes that the amnesia that accompanies DID prevents one from being self aware to their own situation, and this is not the case.
The NHS website clearly states:
“ Dissociative identity disorder (DID) used to be called multiple personality disorder. Someone diagnosed with DID may feel uncertain about their identity and who they are. They may feel the presence of other identities, each with their own names, voices, personal histories and mannerisms.”
This is the first thing that is shown. It is very difficult for somebody with DID to not be aware they have alters, they will sense it from the people around them/how they react and often are able to communicate with at least one alter from very early on, normally childhood.
People actually suffering with the disorder aren’t stupid, they are capable of critical thinking and can look in on their situation and say “well, that isn’t right.” That is often why people seek help. Certainly I am sure there are severe cases of people who become totally non-functional and are completely unaware, but I would certainly say these are the minority.
And I do hope this explanation won’t be taken as me defending people who take to tiktok to falseify the disorder, I loathe them more than most regular people do. But the misinformation thats now being spread in response is a problem for real systems, I just wanted to put this out there as its quite important.

im really in the boat that tae is Just Like That
because she can speak, she’s shown this a few times like saying thanks to people or other single word lines. she also doesn’t run around like you’d expect a zombie to or march like the girls did in S1E1. yeah she does zombie things like biting things that look like food but she doesn’t actually attack people. even when she tries to “eat” people, its all in play (most recent episode as an example where she “eats” the hair buns but only nibbles despite being shown capable of downing plastic in an instant)
something else is in the most recent episode, she’s shown praying at her/her family’s grave. she doesn’t actually pray, she eats the food there as part of the joke, but technically that food is hers since its on her grave. she seems to understand this is her grave enough to go to the cemetery and specifically to her own tombstone, and doesn’t seem to eat any other food on any other graves
it really gives me a feeling that she is awoken she’s just weird like that. or maybe if not that, she has some problem with motor function and cognition that doesn’t allow her to sync up with the other girls during dance. she has shown she can do what they’re doing, and attempts to do so, but is sluggish. maybe her vocal cords were damaged and so she can’t speak properly.

What a persecutor is: An alter that harms the system in one way or another. This may be to a specific alter, or to the entire system. This often stems from abuse and/or warped thinking they learned through years of an unhealthy environment.
What a persecutor does not have to be: Aggressive, angry, rude, or violent. Some do act this way, but it is not inherent. Persecutor and rude alter are not synonymous. Keep in mind that while it is very possible for them to act this way, a lot of this can come from being pushed away, insulted, or not listened to, or it may be an unhealthy coping mechanism.
What a persecutor is not: Evil, a parasite, a menace, something to repress, something to try to “lock up” or “get rid of”, the “dark side” of a system, someone who does not deserve to recover, or a lost cause.
