"Captain Jack Harkness," Jack replied with a smile. He shook the offered hand before looking back at the body. "Do I need to stay here?" He'd been on the trail of an alien when he'd come across the body, but she didn't need to know that. The creature in question had some interesting technology he wanted to look at.
Well.
"Yeah," Jack replied, "I did. Was passing through and when there’s a dead body, you just have to call someone right?"

“So there I was, stranded in the year 200,100, ankle-deep in Dalek dust, and he goes off without me.”

Jack grinned and nodded. He moved forward, wrapping his arms around Steve's waist and holding him close.
Frozen...
Steve looked back at him again. “A pterodactyl? Is that… do you mean a real one or is that some euphamism for something else that I need to learn?” He finished the last of his chips and tossed the bag into a nearby trash can. “So… do you just work here or do you live here too?”

Jack smiled. "A real pterodactyl," he confirmed. "There's... there's a rift in time and space right over Cardiff. It fell through, we got it here, and this is where she lives." He smiled. "Right now, you're sitting in my combination living room/bedroom."

"I told you we could," Jack replied, smiling as he ate his food. "Yeah, I can keep you safe here. I can protect you. Like I said, we've got a pterodactyl."
Frozen...
Steve nodded. “That sounds good,” he said as he got into the car, still holding the food in his lap as Jack drove them back to his place.

"Like I said, it's a long story," Jack replied. "To start, I met someone in the 40's, someone called the Doctor. He... he's an alien. He travels through time and space. I died, a long time in the future, but I was brought back to life. Permanently. I was left behind in the future and used this," He held up his wrist to show the vortex manipulator, "to get back to this time. But... I overshot it by a few hundred years. Been here ever since." He shrugged. "I hacked into SHIELD's computers thanks to one of the women who works with me. I got their message and went to get you out."

"This," Jack replied with a wide grin, "is Torchwood. We operate outside of the government. A mostly secret organization that tracks alien life forms. We don't kill them, not on purpose, but we do our best to contain them and any alien technology that falls through the Rift." He smiled as he settled in a chair. "Have a seat. Enjoy your meal."

When they reached the plaza, Jack motioned for Steve to follow him out of the car. He walked the soldier to the main entrance, waving to Ianto as they passed. He showed Steve into his office and opened the hatch. "Come make yourself comfortable."

"Oh, right, sorry. I meant back to my place," Jack replied, smiling a little. "Come on. It's warm and safe, and we can talk without anyone overhearing us."
Frozen...
"A… A pterodactyl? No… don’t tell me… I’m not sure I want to know just yet…" He let Jack help him stand - he was a bit weak still - as they left the plane and headed to a small sports car. "Yours?" he asked as the got in so Jack could take them wherever they were going.

Jack grinned as he waved to the boy behind the counter and got a small cup full of malt vinegar. "Got you a present." He held it out to him as he snapped the lid on the cup. "Let's go back, all right?"

"I think they are," Jack replied, smiling softly. He started toward the closest chip shop and led Steve inside. He ordered for them and paid before turning to Steve. "Have a bite now, tell me what you think."
