OOC Post: I ask that you all please refrain from sending asks to characters that aren't open. One of the reasons why they aren't open is because I don't have a concrete reference for them. Another is that they haven't been characterized enough.

Also there have been a few general/blanket asks directed towards "any iterator(s)" that pertain to general lore questions. I might answer those asks as OOC lore posts without the context of being asked to an iterator, but I don't feel comfortable doing the normal drawing asks that I've been doing so far with those.

Shore is still a toddler, so isn't yet really saddled by expectations. However, maybe if you ask her when she is older, she will be able to give a more informed response...

BSM: ...give me a moment. Let me take off the eyepatch so you can get a better look.

BSM: ... BSM: ...there we go. Sorry, getting power back and forth to the arrays is... uncomfortable and inefficient. BSM: But anyways, yes. My eye was damaged some time during my collapse. The lens has shattered, leaving some cuts in the internal components and preventing me from closing it properly... or at all. BSM: The good news is that it is still somewhat functional, and it will heal on its own. BSM: The bad news is that I can hardly make out anything with it, and until I am able to close it, the eye remains highly vulnerable. So, the eyepatch remains on... as much as it can only really protect from dirt getting into it. Perhaps something in the future can remedy that. BSM: As for... Ruffles, is their name... they left with Spearmaster and Spitfire not too long ago. I'm... sure they're doing alright. They made it all the way here, after all. BSM: ...thank you for showing concern for my condition. I can report that I have been improving ever since my revival.

The Old Path

(loosely based on a surv playthrough with Moon DMS iterator walk skin, where I ascended in Far Shore. Pics/info below cut.)

(fun fact; a gaggle of moons is called a planetary system)

(second fun fact; my game crashed before it could register the ending yay)

(third fun fact; moon brought nifty (cycle 1 riv pup) and skittle (rainbow hunterpup found in pipeyard) with her, though they were left behind at the surface of the void sea. here they are now)

(fourth fun fact; don't worry nifty and skittle are still safe after the gamer crash, probs will continue this save and visit pebbles n moon. i have a neuron for moon from wind at least)

BSM: Well, my local group members, for one. Pebbles would be my first choice, naturally, but I'd want to visit everyone at one point if I'm able. BSM: After that, if I'm able - and that's a major "if", considering the distance - I'd… want to visit Sliver of Straw's can, to pay my respects.

BSM: No matter what happened the day she died, she doesn't deserve how her name has been thrown around and tarnished in the modern day. She sent out the Triple Affirmative, and she died. That is all we know. It would behoove us to move on and not extrapolate details. Surely there are other avenues of research, ones that do not involve misconstruing my friend's work.  BSM: …my apologies. If I recall correctly, I published a paper on that subject, though the details escape me. If you wish for a more coherent argument from a sharper mind, I suggest you seek that out. No Significant Harassment may have a copy.

Consistent style? Never heard of her!

Also, I will try to answer asks in the order I receive them, but this one in particular inspired me. There are also a few asks that I feel would be better answered in the future. So stay tuned!

BSM: To be honest… probably. BSM: My puppet is only a minuscule part of a larger me, after all. I could live with returning to my puppet chamber if it meant the rest of me was brought back to health. I have grown used to the chronic aches and warnings in the systems I can connect to, but I suppose it would be nice to finally have a break from it.  BSM: Though… all of this is only a hypothetical. Chances are, I will remain below the clouds in a fragmented state. There is only so much I can do, even if I were to enlist the help of the scavengers. The slag reset keys Sig sent me were already such a boon, but the continual rainfalls from Five Pebbles will limit what can be done in the future.  BSM: And, who's to say that my puppet can't remain mobile with the rest of my systems being restored? At this moment, we only have a sample size of one, and that sample is, if you'll excuse me, a prototypical iterator in a heavily damaged, unideal state. If, theoretically, someone were to disconnect their puppet without damaging the rest of their systems, then we'd be able to figure out what my condition may mean for the average iterator.  BSM: That being said, do NOT attempt to do this to yourself. More research needs to be done, research that I can't do myself in this state… though I wouldn't mind being used as a case study for such a pursuit. I… doubt many would want to pursue this either way, since it would distract from research on the Big Problem, but… it still must be said.  

You may notice that Moon isn't speaking in a glitchy way here, unlike she does in the fic.

That's because I don't feel like it... but simultaneously it has some precedent in the fic.

Welcome to the official ask blog for my (@angstmachine-rw) Disconnected AU!

I recommend that you read the accompanying fic first, as it provides some context for the story up to this point. This blog will be "serialized", meaning that the story will continue to play out as time goes on. Updates to the fic on AO3 will also continue, though for a time I will probably be doing some things with the focus, giving some unintroduced characters some time to shine.

The Current Story:

Looks to the Moon is living with a group of scavengers led by the chieftain Dark Spines Along Back. Artificer (known as Firemaker by the scavengers) is also there, having pushed their beef to the side after an altercation with Spines. The messengers that brought her back to life, Rivulet (aka Ruffles), Hunter (aka Spitfire), and Spearmaster have just left for Five Pebbles' can to get life-saving medicine for Spitfire and get Spearmaster's chest pearl removed.

Meanwhile, at the base of a spire in the nearby expanse, Gourmand's colony has to contend with Renegade*, a highly stubborn and dangerous god-machine of legend who harnesses electricity as a lethal weapon. She had gotten into a scrap with scouts of the colony which left a handful of slugcats and herself injured. Despite the altercation, Gourmand allows her to stay as long as she needs to in order to recover, pushing her gently to go to Looks to the Moon's domain. The two god-machines seem like they can help each other, after all...

TL;DR: Moon lives with scavengers, Renegade with slugcats temporarily

*Renegade is Sliver of Straw btw, just to be clear.
