Floam Reference Sheet

Hiya! I've just finished Floam's reference sheet, which you can see above.

One thing I'd like to note is that Floam's speckles aren't randomly dotted on - I've tried to keep them consistent throughout the run of this askblog (although sometimes I forget, like on his nose in the backstory concepts. ^^;) For placing the speckles on the reference sheet (which is the configuration I'll be using going forward), I tried to balance mirroring the sides and front views with visual aesthetic, and I hope I achieved the right effect.

Also of note - the hair speckles are larger than the fur speckles. That's important!

(Some figures, if you'd like to maintain consistency: on this image I used a brush size 27 for the fur speckles and 37 for the hair, which means the hair speckles are ~1.37 times larger than the fur speckles. The fur sparkles, for reference, are 18% the width of the front view neck at its narrowest point, or ~3.4 times the size of the lineart brush, which was size 8.

Of course, you don't have to use these figures, but they're there if you want them.)

I'll probably make some minor adjustments later, but for now this is the final version! I'd appreciate any feedback you guys can give me.

Christmas Campfire at the Anomalous Materials Club

[Mod]This is a picture featuring all the askblog ponies that I knew of last year that were made out of unusual materials. It's actually something I sketched for last Christmas, but due to a bunch of things (like procrastination) I've only just finished! ^^;

Sadly, in the time between, two of these ponies' blogs, ask-gak-pony and askponygak, have since been deleted. Naw. :(

[Mod] Staying alive

In the last story post, askgametia posted the ask:

hey you're alive

While I feel this was more meant for I, your humble mod, I thought it'd be a good opportunity to tackle some of the heavier concepts I've got in mind for Floam, a small taste of what's to come.

In this post, however, I'd like to address the sentiment behind the ask - the regularity of my posting, or recently, the lack thereof. It's true, I've not been keeping to any regular schedule, somewhat due to procrastination on my part.

I hope to change that.

I'm attempting to work together a schedule for posting here. I don't want to announce commitment to any particular schedule until I'm positive I can actually commit to it, but by that time it should be obvious what that schedule is. ^^

In any case, I hope the timing of the last story post will act as a sign of good faith that I'm actually trying to do this.

What I wrote one year ago still holds true - I've got a lot of ideas about where I want to take Floam, and I'm excited to get to the point where I can show them to you.

Mod post: Oh deary, it seems like I really know how to procrastinate, ne? Well, I'm glad to tell you guys I've finally finished the draft TARDIS interior that the rest of this arc will use as the base!

I wanted to go for something that was a bit familiar (for example, the stucts, the monitor, the typewriter and the good ol' levers), but I also wanted something I could call my own, a design that's clearly the TARDIS, but also somewhat original. With the time engine, I wanted to evoke a sense of mechanism, thus all the cranks and pistons and the spinny wheel thing - plus I thought the glass baubles would look cool there. ^^

So, what do you guys think?

Also included is a quick doodle of the Time Turner himself! Isn't he just... fantastic?

* In my imagining, these baubles capture and convert energy from the Eye of Harmony into that required for the task of manipulating the time vortex sufficiently to get where the TARDIS wants to go. The wheel regulates this activity, ensuring that the engine doesn't overload or stall.

Also, <insert timey-whimey stuff here>.

Floam Backstory Concepts

Sorry about the wait (although I'm afraid you might have to wait a bit more for a story update.) For now, here's some concept art for the upcoming storylines. Comments appreciated!

The reason for the delay is partly because I've been busy, and partly that I've been procrastinating over drawing the interior of the TARDIS. ^^; I'll try and get the next story update up within the next two weeks, though, okay?

[Mod] Incoming storyline and updated graphics

I want to explain to you guys what's going to be happening next, so I decided to write this post explaining what's going to be happening next. :p

I've gotten a lot of messages, and although I didn't start this with a clear goal in mind, since then my mind's been working away, like my mind usually does when an idea is presented. Over the last two days I've been thinking over a sort of a storyline that will incorporate many of your questions (don't worry, I haven't been ignoring you!)

One of the ideas that sprung to me, when I read one of the first few questions in particular, was a backstory for Floam. A lot of the thinking I've been doing is fleshing out that story, and some of the mechanics of how Floam functions (thanks in particular to ask-the-random-background-pony, whose questions have been giving me a lot of thought food, and to ask-the-survival-pony, whose single question so far made for a very appetising dessert for my muse </analogy fail>.)

I'll note that Floam doesn't actually know how Floam works, so apologies if I seem like I'm dodging the question at first - I have actually given this stuff some thought.

Another thing: when I started this, it was on a sucky spare computer using a low resolution canvas. Now that I'm back at my awesome main computer, the resolution has been doubled, so the lineart should be a lot smoother. I'm still debating whether I should keep the same brush size or use a half-sized brush (relatively speaking), so the next post should be a comparison between the two.

I'll also try to update the existing answers as well - I wouldn't want anyone to feel left out just because they asked their questions at the wrong time.

If you have any thoughts, I'd love to hear them. (But please, no story ideas - I have enough of them in my head. ^^;)
