Hey, I just wanted to say thanks. I discovered your blog a few days ago and I've kind of just been going through everything and it's really eye opening. As someone who used to be very far left, that terminology disgusts me now, it's just been really refreshing to get a fresh spin on things and realize how fucked I really am. It's like, I was so obsessed with following a label that I stopped thinking for myself and just believed everything. So basically, thanks for helping me be a person again.

To be fair, Scarlett is playing Major Kusanagi, who is a cyborg. She's a brain in a robotic body, pretty much. No real reason to think that Kusanagi couldn't look like whatever the heck she wanted and still be Japanese.

Trimming is fine, declawing is mutilation.

Trimming a cat’s claws correctly (only cutting off the parts that don’t have nerves in them - I only cut the sharp tips just to be safe) is the same as cutting a human’s nails. It doesn’t hurt and doesn’t take anything away from the cat. Mine still uses her scratching post and all. 

Declawing is a surgery that’s a lot like if you had your fingers cut off at your knuckles.

Thoughts on "reverse racism"? Friend won't leave me alone about how white people cannot experience racism and even drags in others to try and shame me into following them.

Ask them if they think that killing someone for being white is racism. If Japan suddenly banned white people from living there or visiting, because they decided that white people are nasty and diseased (or something like that), would they call that racism?

If no, what would they call it? If their answer is “prejudice”, you can then answer that racism is prejudice based on race. If they get the whole power thing involved, repeat the Japan argument (because Asians hold almost all of the positions of power in Japan and white people are a minority or the population).

Something I saw on a blog I found is discussing that genderbending characters is super transphobic and that exploring "what if the character was another gender" is hurtful to trans people and that it implies that all characters are cisgendered. Personally I don't know...but I find that the person who reblogged it, who plays a character not as their actual sexuality, to be a hypocrite. So making them a different gender is harmful but saying "no they have to be gay" isn't?

I don’t support any kind of restriction of artistic freedom, unless it’s actually (physically) hurting someone. 

Art can and should be provocative.

US soccer claims that the men's team makes twice as much as the women's team, draws bigger crowds and has a TV viewership "multiples" larger than the women. Yet they only get paid approximately 40% more rather than the 100% that the income they generate would suggest. Of course, US soccer might be lying, but I can bet the books will be open at any trial. I rather expect that the women soccer players will try the court of public opinion to get their way, where facts don't matter.

People need to learn the difference between macro and micro sociology. Some concepts only apply at some levels. On an individual level people do discriminate but to say a society as a whole oppresses you need a lot more proof than pointing out that individuals discriminate.
