Hey, only now just found out that the Fallen Royalty redraw has been canceled in favor of a rebooted visual novel. (Don't have any problem with that btw. Wish you luck on it. May play it once it's done.)

But I still want to read the rest of Fallen Royalty (Which I guess will have to be via the original version?)

So I got a question: If I read all of the Fallen Royalty redraw, what point of the Tumblr Comic would I want to go to, to continue reading? (unsure as the chapter index says 2A is chapter 5 in the rewrite)

Or, do the two versions diverge enough that it would be better to read the old blog from scratch?

Basically, if I've read all of the Fallen Royalty comic rewrite, which part of the original Ask Fallen Royalty should I go to continue reading?

augh AFR is a major mess i'm so embarrassed and ashamed of it but what can you do? well. reboot i guess. that's what I'm doing... >w>;

but yeah to keep it simple let me write up a guide

AFR CH 1 -> Redraw CH 1 and CH 2. Absolutely can skip.

AFR CH 2 -> Got cancelled really early, almost was the death of the blog lol. TLDR; fallen humans are alive, they tried to kill asgore, now some of them are adopted by Toriel while some live out in Future America. (Called NUA in this story)

AFR CH 3 -> Time skip. I think it's important to start here but SKIP DARK WORLD. It was finished in an art stream but was never fully posted so it looks incomplete and confusing.

All you need to know is that:

There was a darkner OC named Feylow who was made to be Chara's idealized version of young Asriel. This was back when CH 1 the only chapter of DR at the time.

Feylow was recreated as the Princess of Death. She's basically becomes a new character in order to escape being an Asriel-expy.

The kids return home and Chara wants to be friends with their world's Suzy.

You can continue from AFR CH 4 Continue Arc just fine.

I will say I hate how I handled some plot points and I wish I could redo them (wait, hey, i am! in the reboot. lmao.) so just keep in mind the story really,,, isn't at it's best.

Please return for the visual novel i swear it'll be solid and finished someday. AFR has been a mess and I'm doing everything I physically can to wrangle it into a finished and properly structured story i swear

I'm writing what I hope to be the quintessential take on this AU and I'd love to get a good idea of what the fandom thinks of when they consider this AU.

I want my take to be the peak of what this AU would be like if it were fully depicted (It'll be a visual novel) and in order to do that, I want a good idea of what people expect.

thinking about resurrected chara. i imagine they're hiding how unfinished their resurrection was with magic (and make-up?)

i'm not sure about this idea yet...?

EDIT: Currently i'm thinking chara looks like the left normally, but gets paler/more undead on lower HP.

I'm thinkin about my "everybody lives" au and i want to get a better idea of how the fandom handles the AU, so I can have a better baseline when I reapproach my writing. The AU is popular but it's like, normally a background element and not the focus.

so often its:

and that's perfectly fine, if the explanation isn't the story's focus, then it'd be weird to dedicate time to it. But i don't read much fanfic anymore and with comics, i can only think of 2 that aren't my own? and neither really got far iirc.

Does anyone have any recs regarding the "Everybody lives" AU for Undertale?

I'll take anything as long as its not shippy for obvs reasons.

Hey yeah so now it's official. Fallen Royalty lives on as a Visual Novel named New Royals. I'll still be posting updates here as well.

I want to reboot it as a visual novel. NEW ROYALS will be how this story will be continued, and some day, concluded. There's many reasons to why I've decided to follow this path going forward. I want to see these characters come to life and at their fullest. This comic started as an askblog on Tumblr. This version started as a redraw. But I want to start this story fresh and untied to the 6 year old original. The reboot will tell the same story but will have a stronger foundation and pacing. I want the premise of: “Everybody lives, see how the fallen children grow up” I feel it loses it’s impact with Asriel as a teenager. While I still feel Asriel growing up faster because Of his time as Flowey is a powerful narrative, I feel that story can be told without that metaphor. I would like to give the kids more time to be the same age and have more down time. The original (and redraw by extension) runs too quickly from plot point to plot point. Life changing event to life changing event. Character lose focus and screentime because the plot needs to move forward. It’s a problem that has put chapter 3 in a tough position to write. I feel a fresh start is necessary. And while I could just start the comic again, I would prefer it to be less confusing to explain. I already am making a fangame and know how to code decently. I would like to see what this can be like as a game, And realistically I have to chose one way to tell this story. So I chose the visual novel and the reboot. Ok but for real I think just remaking the comic at this point is just goddamn confusing to the audience. Like there'd be a tumblr version, a redraw, AND a reboot?

Nah man, a video game test was already made and that format works its just TMLs engine died for a minute and I redid Down twice and that killed my motivation for a while

Gonna start fresh I already have a cool idea for how the soul sharing will work its gonna be NEAT!!!

Uh my personal two cents is I'd prefer webcomic for accessibility! Visual novel, unless you can make it work for Mac computer too (because it's like a game, right? like your other visual novels stuff), would kinda lock me out of reading. But webcomic is easily accessed by folks. That's just my preference though.

it's likely going to be exported in HTML so that shouldn't be a problem. At least, my coding friends assured me it won't be an issue. 👍

Also, when releasing the playable test I did last year a reader explained how you can play on Mac. I can dig up that post after work

Ok I'm kinda low key in agony I'm so uncertain of what to do (aaaaaaaaaaa)

But anyway I want to take action. The more I think about it just making small changes lead to ripple effects and that's just gonna cause a total rewrite regardless. I see no way where I'm not just remaking everything at this point

So it's a reboot. I'm doing a reboot.

But at that point I'm thinking "should this still be a webcomic, would making it a visual novel justify remaking it more?"

Cause idk I just have this horrible gut feeling that people are gonna get maddy that I'm rebooting ""again"" but it was originally a redraaaaaw. It wasn't supposed to be a reboot originally but now it iiiiiis
