I understand that it might cluster the pinned post or be annoying to keep track of, but I feel like it might be helpful for newcomers of this AU/blog who don't know who they can/can't rp as. Again, this is only a recommendation and I apologize if I'm pushing any boundaries by requesting it. )

…There was nothing to respond to, nor anything I could have said that would have changed anything. But for old times’ sake, I shall indulge you, Cookie.

The choco bamboo shoots of this frozen tundra are resilient, a quality shared by its denizens, and a trait well-known of this region’s king.

He has long been the quiet type, though I suppose his bouts of silence have grown longer as of late. 

My arrival and subsequent dwelling here was not… foreseen. My other half does not say it aloud, but he and I are both aware that he desired for me to never step foot in his kingdom after everything that had happened between us. The conversations he had with your former self played a role in why he did not turn me away. At least, to the degree that he has provided me a place to reside here.

…He talks about you sometimes, specifically the Cookie you once were. He mostly speaks of the distant past, but on rare occasions he asks me about our time together in that vanilla-scented place. He likes to hear about the previous you, about when you used to smile brightly like the sun.

The Cookies you once knew as friends lament your absence, though they grieve the Cookie you once were even more. You once asked me once why I do not mourn what has been lost, my answer remains the same: it is futile to shed tears for what was always destined to disappear—and it is easier. 

There is no pain once you accept futility.

*At this point in the letter, there are several drops of ink staining a particular spot… as if the writer could not think of what to say next.*

“But there is no happiness, either.” You would say back, as if I was not already aware.

You told me there was strength in accepting futility, strength in understanding when it is time to give up… But you also told me that to surrender completely made no sense, not when accepting reality opened more doors than it closed.

Your furrowed-brow king tells me the same sentiment, in less, more direct words. In a way, it is strangely comforting to hear him admit it when I will not.

Any regrets I once had were reduced to flour the moment I accepted Apathy… but if I were to say any so-called “regrets” that have been allowed to fester since then… I suppose not being more candid in my warning to you is one of them.

Simply because I do not care does not mean I am complaisant towards the suffering of this world, or the suffering of its lifeforms.

You may resemble the trickster more, but I cannot help but see a part of my past in you as well. Is it truly the fate of all healers to be hurt by those we welcomed with open arms?

What happened to you should have never been allowed to occur; it was far too similar to a part of a history that we should have all learned from, a part that my kin and I never wished to see repeated again.

*The letter smells the same as it did last time, of subtle flour and bitter chocolate ink. However, sent alongside the letter is a small pouch filled with… flour(?). A well-crafted enchantment seems to linger in every speck, but the only clue you receive in regards to its effects are on a small note attached to the string that kept the pouch sealed.

“In case you require a touch of my realm’s protection. My cocoon will give you a second chance in avoiding the immense pain of crumbling.”*

Sweet Vanilla: *He sniffles softly, rubbing his teary eyes with the back of his hand, holding the pouch in his lap as he listens to the contents of the letter once, twice, thrice more before deciding to finally pen his reply.* Dear Mystic Flour Cookie,

I will admit...I was not really expecting a reply back after all this time. I do apologize for the lateness of my own reply. I have been rather ill as of late. My mood and mind are rather...turbulent, one can say, and I think it is effecting my health physically. *Several lines are scribbled out, as if he admitted something and then decided to backtrack the statement.*

I...wish I could just make things better. Even though I don't remember my actions and the motives behind them, I have seemed to hurt many other cookies, including your other half it seems. And...maybe to some extent, you. You cared enough to warn me when you could have just let it happen without interference. You also care enough now to write me now. So, I deeply apologize, my friend.

I don’t have any origami this time, but I have started a vegetable garden, here try a tomato. (I asked a friend of mine to help with the preserving)

I heard from you from a certain trickster friend of mine and it seems it is true! I do hope you are doing well there. The world here is quite hectic, so I decided maybe a nice talk back and forth with you might brighten both our moods~

How are you faring perhaps? My dear friend, the jester has been complaining that you had given books of old to the creme republic consul. Now I cannot reach and control your actions at this minute so I will give advice. Do not trust them so easily, they may as well be a devil in disguise now~

Your letter is quite welcomed along with the gifts. The berries are quite lovely and I've never seen these types of flowers before. I might try to grow some if these cuts you sent me leave behind seeds. Do you have any advice for their care?

I am personally doing alright here, surely better than what I'm hearing my other correspondents are going through right now. Several of my well letter friends tell me it is not safe currently, and the new papers I've been researching through confirm the same. I hope you are safe where you are, though.

By jester, do you mean Blue? He had never given me a name to go off of, so I've been calling him by his parchment color. He was quite upset with me sharing knowledge with the Consul, but I feel like it would help others with poor vision like myself to have that runic array, so I have no regrets there. I will take your warning here to heart, though the Consul has been a rather kind correspondent to me. I do realize that I can't completely tell who someone is through pen and paper alone.

Garden of Delights? Does that mean you garden, too? I mean...it would be nice to garden with someone for a change, I think...though other cookies in the dough still fill me with anxiety, to be truthful here.

Although I am surprised to read that you have gotten in contact with Hollyberry Cookie, as you are correct in your assumption that no other Cookie shares her name, the Queen Mother has always been known for his passionate and friendly disposition, so I believe you have been enjoying corresponding with her.

I may check in with you every now and then to see how you are doing, but I apologize if my letters are no longer as frequent due to my duties. Still, if you have any questions or concerns, I am but a letter away and shall do my best to provide you a swift reply.

Yes, I've been enjoying my letters with Hollyberry Cookie. She is quite upbeat and positive, and it's...comforting, in a way. Nice, even.

Ah, I'm sorry about the spilling of jam. I...wasn't aware I was bleeding at the time. It seems to be happening more frequently, but I'm not sure the cause and neither are the Headmaster nor the Archivist. It seems to correspond with the increasing unsettling dreams I've been having lately. I'm not sure if that is just a coincidence or not yet.

“Dear Archivist,

My name is Espresso Cookie, a mage currently serving as one of the head researchers to the Republic’s Institute of Thaumaturgy.

My colleagues and I have been responsible for analyzing the books you sent, and we are eager to continue this academic exchange. Along with a list of what was lost during the Dark Flour War, I shall also be sending over a copy of ‘Theorem of Coffee Magic’.

If you are interested in any particular topics, I will send you what I can regarding them.

As for those moonstone samples you mentioned, we would be very grateful to receive some. The spell Pure Vanilla Cookie used to seal Dark Enchantress Cookie away has yet to be properly analyzed, especially considering the only witnesses to the spell were either not proficient in magic, on the opposing side, or absent.

We currently have some of our partners from the Parfaedian Magic Academy present, along with a Cookie who specializes in all things related to artifacts. Although the study of Dark Moon Magic is strictly prohibited, we hope that studying the moonstone will give us insight into Pure Vanilla Cookie’s spellwork of the seal.

I look forward to this exchange of research in the pursuit of knowledge.

Pardon the secrecy, but as soon as the other Elders learned that I was to be the main corresponder in our research exchange, they were… adamant that my letters be reviewed prior to being sent to ensure no ‘diplomatic issues’. Which, obviously, is just their oh-so-polite political way of ensuring I do not share information that they do not want me to.

However, I do not share my higher-ups' beliefs that knowledge should be restricted, nor am I keen to be kept on a short leash. I have made the Consul aware of my plans to be candid with you, and though he cannot blatantly support my efforts, he agrees with my stance on the matter.

If you haven’t already found it, alongside the list and theorem, I have sent a copy of my manuscript for my research on Soul Jam and Magic Candy, which I have been 'temporarily' forbidden from publishing due to the current state of Earthbread.

I will also be straight with you regarding the moonstone. While we do seek to analyze any lingering remnants of the spell Pure Vanilla Cookie used, there is also interest in seeing if the seal can be replicated using a new vessel or if potential alternatives that derive from the original spellwork can be found.

I wish this exchange could be under more ideal circumstances, but sometimes life hands you a subpar cup of coffee and you must make do with it.

(P.S. My research partner Strawberry Crepe Cookie has asked me to request books on golem-focused magic from you. They have been trying to upgrade their Wafflebots since the evacuation of the Vanilla Kingdom, but have been displeased that none of the Republic’s research provides them a base from which they can branch out with their own innovative ideas.)

It had taken me so long to provide due to scouring the archives for books that tackle the topics you've listed. My assistant, Sweet Vanilla Cookie, also suggested I throw in a few history books since magic could not be the only knowledge lost.

I am afraid it might take a bit longer to procure the moonstone samples, as my esteemed Headmaster doesn't seem to approve of the idea. Give me time, and I shall widdle him down on its importance.

The letter itself and the fact that the history book is instead what looks to be a research journal of one Elderberry Cookie on the properties of soul magic and riturals as well as a small, satin pouch, containing small shards of stone.*

I trust as well, as a mage of your caliber, you would be able to see through my own spell work as well and find this journal and letter. I have received your manuscript safely and find that your research and my own as a youth may have overlapped greatly. Hence why I provided you with my own personal journal.

I understand that its contents are likely considered forbidden now, so please keep this journal to yourself. It includes Dark Moon Magic, so please exercise the most extreme of caution.

I've included a few shards of moonstone I was able to sneak out from under the headmaster's nose. I will get a larger piece soon, but I wanted to give you at least a small sample to start research upon.

I've included the books your research partner asked for as well. As well as the thesis of the protype of the waffle bots themselves, since the student who first presented the idea walked these halls once. He wanted a way to defend his people without putting lives at risk. While not an expert like your friend likely is, his thesis was the basis to the type of golem wafflebots are. I had helped him with his research into the topic, though it was after his graduation, so I do have his notes and papers.
