How about a world swap? How would their lives play out differently should they not be in the Mystery Dungeon world?

I’d imagine their trainers are rival-buddies, in the same sense that Hop, Hau, and Nemona act with the player! So they have plenty of opportunities to hang out :D

> Caspian would more that likely belong to a rich trainer, given Rowlet are both aristocratic-based in design, and Caspian would be considered a purebred. Probably was bought as a gift by their parents.

> The trainers and Lyla/Caspian are mirrors of each other, almost. Fancy but impulsive and reckless, versus a bit roughed up, but very sweet. There are some differences, like Caspian knowing his limit or when he’s biting off more than he can chew - Or how Lyla’s trainer is a lot more outgoing than she is. But they’re still very similar!

Species swap AU?

Personally, I don't think much would change in terms of story or setting! Just two lil grass-type goobers making their way in the world. ^^

Bulbasaur!Caspian would have the bulb on his back be comprised of palm leaves. He'd also more than likely have a little 'mohawk', of sorts, almost like a zebra, and be a little bit of a runt in comparison to a usual bulbasaur. Also a monocle, 100%

Rowlet!Lyla would still have her little leaf 'hat', and her 'bowtie' would be replaced by the flower her original design has on her back. Her wings would also be petal-like as well, methinks. Very fluffy, puffs up even more when startled. Like an armadillo, but floof

Their families, teachers, etc. would more than likely be the same with dynamics! Just with different species, for the most part. (I think it would only be the actual venusaur/decidueye parents that get swapped around, essentially)

Despite his size, Caspian would absolutely be a fighter, even moreso than usual. He'd use his vines and start throwing hands if anyone were to mess with him and Lyla. Or throwing objects, who knows. I feel like this would get them into 'hooligan' or 'delinquent' status, when really, they're just some kids who are tired of being bullied. (Well.. Caspian is. Lyla has the backbone of a wet spaghetti noodle /aff)

A pair of grass-types seem to be relaxing under a tree.. If one would be from the surrounding town, they’d easily be recognized as Lyla and Caspian, a duo who aspires to become a great, powerful adventure team.
