... ENOUGH POWER TO DESTROY ENTIRE CIVILIZATIONS WITH A PASSING GLANCE. AND YOU WISH TO WIELD IT... IN FLORESCENT LIGHTING?
I KNOW NOT IF YOU ASK THIS DUE TO IGNORANCE, BOREDOM OR IN AN ATTEMPT TO OFFEND ME.
HOWEVER, I WILL MAKE THIS PERFECTLY CLEAR TO ALL MORTALS WHO READ THIS TEXT WITH THE BONE-CHILLING TONE OF MY VOICE.
I REFUSE TO POWER ANY APPLIANCE OR OTHER DEVICE. I AM NOT A BATTERY. I AM ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL MAGES IN EXISTENCE. I WILL NOT OFFER MY TIME TO SOLVING ENERGY CRISIS'.

I AM AN IMMORTAL BEING, HOWEVER, NOT AN INVULNERABLE ONE. REGARDLESS OF HOW MEAGER A THREAT YOU AND THESE PITIFUL CREATURES OF THE VOID ARE, HISTORY IS FULL OF FOOLISH BEINGS WHO HAVE FALLEN TO A LESSER FOE DUE TO SHEER ARROGANCE AND IGNORANCE. THE NAME OF XERATH WILL NOT BE ADDED TO THAT LIST.
MY INFINITE POWER WOULD BE MEANINGLESS IF THERE WAS NO WISDOM BEHIND IT. AND THUS, I KEEP AN EYE ON YOU. FOR AS INTRIGUING AS YOUR MAGIC MAY BE, I MAY NEED TO BE RID OF YOU ONE DAY.

I see you’ve come back, Magus. My days have meandered uneventfully in these last days for Runeterra.
And as for the Void, it is no more a progress than it is a process of events that will catalyze when the time comes for it. It is interesting that you’d take an interest in it despite how irrelevant it is to your goals. Be it skepticism, caution, or pure curiosity, the might of the Void will befall Runeterra in due time.

Xerath does not seem to respond to these displays of her strength. However, her claims to power seem to have struck a nerve.
Xerath was indeed a prideful being. His voice returns to the grating, explosive roar as he turns to face her, a tangible surge of raw arcane energy blossoming forward from him, bathing the area in vibrant blue light.
WEAK, PATHETIC CREIGHTON. DO YOU TRULY BELIEVE YOU HAVE SURPASSED ME? YOU ARE BUT A BIT OF STRAW BEFORE A WHIRLWIND, YOUNG MORTAL. YOUR STRENGTH IS NOTHING IN COMPARISON TO MINE. YOUR MAGIC IS A SIMPLISTIC MANIPULATION OF LIGHT, AND THE LACK OF. BEWARE YOUR HUBRIS, FOR I AM NOT BOUND BY THE INSTITUTE HERE. MY MAGIC IS FAR BEYOND YOUR IMAGINATION, EVEN WITH THE ICOSOGRAM.
Xerath raises a spectral hand, flexing his fingertips as the shadows around him begin to recede in a purposefully slow manner.
THIS.. MINISCULE DISPLAY... MAY HAVE BEEN DIFFICULT FOR YOU TO ACHIEVE... BUT I AM THE ARCANE. NOTHING IS BEYOND MY POWER.
A Long Wait
She glares at him, eyes glowing slightly brighter. She seemed angry. The room seemed to grow darker as this happened, the shadows becoming quite prominent as she stepped towards him, looking directly at him. Her face showing almost no emotion.
“I expect no pity from you.”
She snarls at him, shadows growing behind her, moving in strange ways, almost with a mind of their own.
“The powers I now possess are extremely dangerous. And extremely useful…”
And with that, she stepped backwards into the portal she had created just a moment before, appearing behind him immediately. She started at him silently for a moment.
“A master of the arcane could never achieve something as great as this. Never.”

'The shadows?' he says in an almost skeptical matter. Xerath gives a soft murmur, turning the various armor plating of his ascended form begins to shuffle about as slight agitation seeps into his voice.
'Rather than master the arcane for yourself, you resorted to makeing some.. deal with force beyond your understanding? Do you understand what you may have gotten yourself into, agreeing to be the... emisary... of some creature? you had potential... and yet you squander it.. do you come here expecting my pity?'
A Long Wait
She seems slightly disappointed when he lowered his hand, but the expression lasted only a moment.
“It’s hard to explain. If I tried you might think I was insane.”
She frowns,
“It corrupts my form only because I allowed it to do so. I honestly don’t think it is too much of a change. But that might just be me, as I have had to live with it for some time.”
She would turn away from him for a moment, sighing heavily as if preparing to say something extremely important. She faces him once more, letting the orb dissipate as she opens her mouth to speak.
“I learned it from the shadows.”
She spoke quietly and quickly, as if trying to avoid talking about it too much.

'You would think you had learned from my own mistakes when it came to magic...' His voice a low whisper. The ascendant shudders lightly, his frame trembling as he thinks for a moment.
'From where.. did you learn this power? How did you let it corrupt your form?'
he seems curious, leaning slightly closer to her and reaching outwards, his hand radiating warmth as it hovers a few inches from her cheek. he thinks better of his actions and lowers it back to his side.
A Long Wait
She sighs once again, closing her eyes momentarily and shaking her head slightly.
“It is magic that even I have trouble understanding. Even after months of non-stop training…”
She opens her eyes again and looks back up at him. She stands up, turning to face him directly. With this, he would be able to see she was much thinner then she used to be, almost malnourished. It was obvious she had not eaten for some time, even though it didn’t matter, it would keep her form much more full, normal. She would raise a hand in front of her, palm up. She would close her eyes for just a moment, an orb of black matter forming right in the center of her hand. It would grow to be about the size of a normal human eye before she raised her hand further, offering for him to inspect it.
“The manipulation of shadows, I think.”
She spoke calmly, almost seemingly devoid of emotion herself. Her eyes had been glowing a bit brighter from the moment she began to summon the orb of darkness into her palm.
“It’s… strange.”

OMFG YOU ARE ACTIVE AGAIN.

Who, or what is Tabia?
(( Tabia was the target of Xerath's affection in his human years, detailed in the Judgement for Xerath. In my interpretation of Xerath, his one true link to his past, his humanity, is the love he never fully allowed to bloom because of his dedication to his own vision of how magic should be used. He was responsible for her death. And as he is a timeless being, no ammount of time in exile will have made him feel as though he has made amends for her death.))

I AM DEVOID OF SUCH LIMBS, MORTAL. WHEN I WAS HUMAN, I SUPPOSE I DID. HOWEVER, THE SCORCHING HOT SANDS OF SHURIMA WERE NOT COMFORTING AGAINST THE SOULS OF YOUR FEET.
BUT IN MY TIME AS A HUMAN MORTAL, I DID NOT WALK UPON THIS GRASS AS YOU DO.
..YOUR SENTIMENTALITY INTRIGUES ME, WIDOWMAKER. MOST WHO ARE BOLD ENOUGH TO APPROACH ME, SEEM TO FORGET THAT AS A HUMAN I ONCE ADORNED IN SUCH SIMPLE PLEASURES.
Xerath's voice became a dry, rasping hiss.
The ascendant's laugh was always an unsettling sound.

WHEN I FIRST ASCENDED, I DID INDEED FIND MYSELF YEARNING FOR THE SENSATION OF TOUCH. HOWEVER, IN THE EONS THAT FOLLOWED, I NOW REALIZE THAT MY BODY WAS A HINDRANCE. A LIMIT TO BE BROKEN. AS THAT FRAIL FORM PERISHED, I BECAME THE EXAMPLE OF MAGIC'S UNRELENTING POWER.
The ascendant hesitates for a moment before speaking again.
..TABIA.

His voice softens to more of a hum, emanating deep within his being. His voice is inaudible, as if speaking directly into her mind.
"I have warned you about the pursuit of such magic, young one. Yet you went in search of it regardless. I can only feel somewhat responsible for what has happened to you if this is indeed the fruits of your sorties into the arcane."
as an ascended being, Xerath has long since fallen.. out of touch with most of his emotions. It was to his bitter surprise that he found himself feeling... remorse. Guilt.
'This is not the first student I have wounded..' He muses to himself, his mind drifting back to his sessions with Luxanna.
"What form of magic is this?"
A Long Wait
She looks up at him and offers a slight smile.
“Yes, it has.”
She stands up, not nearly as tall as his floating form. She sighs, nodding her head slightly before opening her mouth to speak again.
“A lot has happened…”
She trailed off, motioning towards her face, the most visibly changed area of her body.
“As you can see, I.. look a bit different.”
She smiles sheepishly before gently placing a hand on one of her horns, as if trying to explain what had happened to her without words. She avoided looking at him directly as she did so, trying to think of what to say. After a few silent moments she looked back up at him, her gaze showing no sign of fear as she stared directly into his eyes.
“I’ve gained a lot of new knowledge about magic, and I have discovered a new way to wield it as well.”’
She sighs again, her hand falling back down to her side, the chain around her neck creating quiet noise with the sudden movement. The scar across the ridge of her nose was quite visible as she continued to look up at him. It seemed like a painful wound to acquire, as the scar tissue had created a significant ridge across her otherwise smooth skin, although she seemed not to notice it.

She wouldn't have long to wait.
For an immortal entity, Xerath was a prudent being. As the midnight hour came, the vibrant blue glow of the Magus' Ascended form bathes the exterior of the room in a soft azure hue. the door to the room seemingly swung gently open as if upon its own accord, as Xerath drifted within, the door closing in his wake.
The empty eyes gaze down upon her in its usual soulless fashion, his voice is somewhat lighter, adressing an old friend.
"GREETINGS. IT HAS, INDEED, BEEN QUITE A WHILE."
A Long Wait
Directed towards asktheascendant, Xerath.
Caldaara had written down the time and place on a small piece of paper after they had spoken very briefly. ‘Library. Midnight.’ Were the only two words she had scribbled down, leaving it with him before turning away to continue towards her room at the institute. The woman was tired after her venture into the mountains, and she had taken a very brief nap, one of her shadowy companions awaking her just before midnight, giving her just enough time to get there. With a huff, she walked past the huge entrance doors and deeper into the library, which was a pretty big place, with many smaller rooms connected to it. She chose one unoccupied and entered.
Sitting herself down in a comfortable looking leather chair, she slowly removed the ragged brown cloak she had worn almost every day for the past few months. The thick golden chain around her neck would stay, glowing faintly in the dim light. She set the cloak beside her seat, on the floor, looking around the small study she had chosen to sit in. Running a hand through her dark purple hair, she found what she was looking for. A small candle, unlit, sitting upon the low table in front of her. With a simple wave of her hand, the wick lit, giving the center of the small room a warm glow, to which her strange new eyes contributed with.
And here she would wait.

Greeting Ascendant. It has been a few months since we last spoke, do you think we could catch up sometime?
NAME A TIME AND PLACE OF YOUR CHOOSING, SUMMONER.

You do realize the Institute knows of your desire to be free, correct? I am fairly certain you will have to take matters into your own hands if you so desire freedom, rather than the unwitting aid of others.
OF COURSE. BUT THE MORTALS OF THE INSTITUTE SURELY FEAR WHAT THEY DO NOT UNDERSTAND, JUST AS MAGUS FEARED ME WHEN I FIRST ASCENDED. THEY KNOW I SEEK TO BE FREE. BUT IN MY TIME HERE, THEY HAVE NOT OFFERED ME ANY SOLACE AS THEY DID OTHERS SUCH AS MORGANA, KAYLE AND ZILLEAN. THEY DO NOT WISH TO SEE ME BREAK MY BONDS.
AS FOR FREEING MYSELF.. THE LAST SEAL THAT KEEPS ME BOUND IS THE MOST COMPLEX OF THEM ALL. IT WILL TAKE A LONG TIME TO UNDO IT, MORTAL. EVEN WITH THE RAW POWER OF THE NEXUS CRYSTALS AT MY DISPOSAL. I WILL TAKE WHATEVER MEANS I CAN TO BE AT ONE WITH MY TRUE POWER.
