Watched an Arrowfell playthough and we’re introduced to Lieutenant Colonel Olive Harper, who I realize is the only other person with a known rank outside of Ironwood, and that's outside the main series. I guess it was implied that licensed Huntsmen like Winter and Ace Ops are differentiated from the non-licensed soldiers and officers, but… where do they fit into the chain of command?? What is the hierarchy here?
Even in Fullmetal Alchemist, State Alchemists are given the rank of major or equivalent, even Ed, and it’s implied it's only bc he’s under 16 at the start that he's not actually under command.
And I’m thinking back to that guy Forrest calling them Ironwood's personal attack dogs, Weiss saying Ironwood 'practically groomed' Winter's career, or the WoR: Huntsmen episode mentioning the criticism Atlas Academy received for 'indoctrination of military lifestyle'... I'm sure not all Atlas Academy graduates join the military or become special ops if they do, but all these operatives who don't seem to answer to anyone but Ironwood is troubling.
#rwby#rwby arrowfell#winter schnee#anti james ironwood#and i dont know much abt the military but yeah#if we do get other ranked people i dont know abt them and the point still stands i think

I have been wondering what holidays Remnant might have, and a brief list might be:
Seasonal festivals like Midsummer or the Quarter Days, possibly from the times the Maidens were public knowledge.
Something equivalent to Memorial/Armistice day to celebrate the end of the Great War, since the Vytal Festival is every two years
Something akin to Valentine day to celebrate romance
A day to honor deceased loved ones (i feel like these two are common in our world)
A New Year celebration, seems obvious
Kingdom founding days, also obvious
I am sure they might have other holidays, especially depending on the kingdom... also, since we don't have much of an idea of organized religion in Remnant, that was also a little tough. If you have any thoughts feel free to share!

Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen, Part Two Review
Upon escaping from the digital recreation of Remnant created by Kilg%re, the Justice League awaken to find their world under attack by the Grimm. Meanwhile, Team RWBY, who are now in Vacuo, receive a message from the Justice League that Earth is in danger. Upon arriving, the team splits up to deal with the Grimm; Ruby Rose and Superman go to fight a new Grimm, Weiss searches for anti-venom from a unique Death Stalker for Batman, Blake Belladonna teams up with Green Lantern and Cyborg to find a sea monster in Gotham, and Yang Xiao Long joins the others in fighting Grimm in Central City. During all of the chaos, everyone eventually learns who Kilg%re's mysterious partner that trapped him in the simulation with them actually is.
So we have a recap opening from Ruby with the basic world of Remnant and the plot of the first movie before we get back to Earth. Black Canary! Fun to see her, nice of the others to get her up to speed about what happened with the Grimm apparently now on Earth. Grimm in Gotham is not good, lots of negativity there, and these are some pretty gnarly species. And you have to laugh at Vixen making the ‘Brothers Grimm’ joke, though Jinn already got there in the Lost Fable. Of course Kilg%re did not take his defeat in the last movie well, and all these mutated Grimm are his new plan. Unfortunately, a mutated Deathstalker gets Batman. Flash is also not doing well after spending most of the first movie as Kilg%re’s puppet, and I imagine that would be pretty tough to get over. On the RWBY side, we land in Vacuo, post Volume 9, with Ruby acting reckless in the fights against the Grimm and _WBY is not happy. Between this and the Boba short from RWBY Beyond, it’s safe to say her issues did not magically go away after the pep talk with the Blacksmith, and I hope we can get a Volume 10 to see that in the main series. Weiss is not doing well with Atlas' fate but at least she can talk to Klein about it. I loved her contact photos, and seeing Vacuo architecture was cool!
Then comes the reunion! Jess missing Jaune was sweet, too bad they couldn’t be there this time. I did love Blake listening to the locks and then just smashing it, also her blush at Yang winking at her was cute. The fight against the security droids was cool, and of course there was some time weirdness between the two worlds. But now it’s RWBY's turn to be in a new place! Blake and Yang panicking over her missing cat ears was hilarious. As was Ruby trying to see what powers she has, sorry Rubes, no flight for you. Also I love the shout-out to the Titans!
Making the plans was neat, though seeing Harley and Joker together felt… weird, even if it was just a quick shot of them enjoying the chaos. Very thoughtful of the League to give our girls weapons, though unfortunately for Yang and Weiss, they did not charge Captain Cold and Heat Wave’s guns. Well at least Yang got neat fire powers, but poor Weiss had no such luck! Ruby definitely fared better with what I’m assuming was Scarecrow’s scythe. Blake's new shadow manipulation powers were cool, and I loved the little wings she gave herself! And that staff and sword she wielded looked like they belonged to one Deathstroke/Slade Wilson. There is some definite irony in that considering his relationship with Terra in the original Judas Contract… and on that, her kicking the sword at the Feilong definitely reminded me of Adam’s opening move in the Black trailer of using his gun-sheath (Oh RWBY) to launch his sword at the enemy. It was funny to have our girls trying to get used to Earth. I did laugh at Yang still dissing aliases with the Weather Wizard and Mirror Master. Also Blake dissing Gotham and saying she understood Batman now, when they had lower Mistral for crime rates and economic divide. And poor Weiss trying to talk out her feelings over Atlas, but Batman was a bit busy being poisoned to talk it out. The way she got the Deathstalker was so smart and of course Watts couldn't resist reusing ideas.
And I loved the little talks we got as they recovered and regrouped. Yang talking about recovering from traumatic experiences with Barry, Ruby and Clark talking about loss and how to keep going in a tough job, Weiss and Bruce talking about how the way you grow up affects you and you still have to make your own way in the end, it was all very touching. I think that something that makes this crossover fun for me as a fan of both franchises. The worlds are different, but similar enough that we can have these interesting moments and dynamics, same as the last movie.
The final showdown was cool! I did like how Croc and the Rogues were helping, that was fun. So Watts prepared for his possible death and wanted to get out from Salem's death to do his own damage? Well, as a reason for getting this crossover going, I’ll allow it. I guess it does make sense, even though his pride making him underestimate Cinder is what gets him killed in the original. And just like with Cinder, Kilg%re and Watt’s partnership does not go smoothly, very shocking. I did love the sister moments with Yang and Ruby. Yang is pretty strong, and has worked through a lot of her issues with their moms, but of course she still worries over Ruby. And I’m always here for sibling content! It was also nice that Flash could find his strength and face Kilg%re again. Kilg%re was… less good at trying to be Yang than he was Barry, and Blake was not fooledAnd of course we set Kilg%re, who hates being called an idiot, on Watts, who has to act like he’s leagues smarter than everyone else, classic. So I guess they’re stuck driving each other crazy in that digital dimension? Alright, that works.
The ending scene was cute! Celebratory hugs and Bees kiss! And now RWBY says goodbye to their friends because they have to go home to Remnant and the League have to go kick Luthor’s ass.
This was a fun duology. Like I said, I enjoyed the character elements and dynamics it allowed the writers to explore, and there were some great fight scenes. As a fan of both franchises, it was cool to see the characters work together in fights and play off each other emotionally. And some fun humor for both sides trying to understand the others’ world. All in all a good time.

Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen, Part One Review
The Justice League is facing off against a new horror: adolescence! Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Cyborg, Green Lantern and Vixen are surprised to find that not only have they materialized on a strange world called Remnant, but they’ve also been transformed into teenagers. Meanwhile, the heroes of Remnant – Ruby, Weiss, Blake and Yang – find their world has been mysteriously altered. Can the combined forces of the Justice League and Team RWBY return Remnant to normal before a superpowered Grimm destroys everything they know?
I did know that it wasn’t really Remnant either, but the movie tipped that hand pretty early. Interesting that they are in their Beacon arc outfits, while Weiss and Blake are in their Mistral arc locations (Yang’s not at Patch, but I guess Vale/Beacon is closer to Home than Ruby was in that arc), and this seems to take place during the Atlas arc. I suppose it was for the same reason as making the JL teens, trying to throw them off. Blake being in Menagerie on pretense of simply visiting her parents for break was a bit bittersweet considering the circumstances of their estrangement and reunion in canon. It really breaks my heart thinking of her life before Beacon. And of course I caught that Yang was her choice to call, I love the Bees.
If memory serves, each of the girls meet the same DC Trinity member they met first in the original crossover comics, which is a fun nod. Clark was able to get Yang and Ruby’s help far quicker than Diana and Bruce with Blake and Weiss though, ha. I’m assuming most heiresses and socialites Bruce interacted with on Earth weren’t trained by their military older sisters and carrying swords! And shoutout to the piano guy, that made me laugh.
And it was fun seeing JN_R and Flash/Barry, Cyborg, Vixen, and Green Lantern/Jessica joining the mix. Both the Justice League and the Remnant kids have experience fighting monsters, evil villains, and their own traumas. It was pretty enjoyable seeing the different dynamics unfold as the teams got to know each other. Ruby and Superman talking about leadership and feeling the burden of trying to protect those they love… oh, volume 9 still hurts, but their friendship was nice! And then Diana talking with Blake and Yang about being a warrior… well, the other Leaguers have experienced loss, but I guess it is true that unlike Diana and the Remnant gang, they weren’t raised in that sort of culture where fighting is a part of it, and you might be building a sniper rifle/scythe combo at 13. And Jaune and Jessica becoming trauma buddies was sweet, though Jaune your Semblance unlocking was because Weiss was dying not “a friend believed in you”. And I wonder if Jessica’s backstory changed, because she mentioned feeling different from her friends and not wanting them to go through what she did, but also alluding to heavy loss. I did like her sympathizing with Jaune and her line of “Time is only one part of grief”. In the comics though, her backstory was her friends getting murdered after accidentally stumbling on criminals dumping a body in the woods, and Jess herself only barely escaping. Still, again I did like the friendship! And ok, that Pyrrha illusion really hurt, like, ow!
And on dynamics/romance, Blake and Ren being jealous was pretty funny. Well, Blake was able to brush past Yang admiring Diana’s strength pretty easily, and bonded with her, but it was a little less smooth for Ren seeing Cyborg trying to flirt with Nora. Ren, buddy, don’t worry, she’s had feelings for you for a long time. But he’s in his Atlas arc grumpy repression mode, so he won’t open up about that right now, oh Ren. Also, I love how Blake says she and Yang didn’t get along at first and Yang said something similar in their confession scene in the show. They are so goofy because it only took one terribly awkward conversation for Blake to pick Yang as her partner and smile at her calling the knight chess piece a ‘cute little pony’. You are not enemies to lovers girls! And the little moment of trust and holding hands through the ship windshield was cute.
The implied Weiss/Bruce/Diana love triangle was kinda odd though, but I guess Weiss and teen!Bruce liked each other in the original crossover comics too? They certainly have similarities, but Weiss, if you’re going to be the token straight, could you at least pick emotionally available men? And I’ve never been a fan of WonderBat (or any of the Trinity with each other in all honesty, but for WonderBat blame Bruce Timm, iykyk). But it wasn’t too overt, so oh well.
And finally, the villain. I know Kilg%re from a Wally West Flash story where he possessed Linda Park while pretending to be an Irish bard named Seamus O’ Relkig, so clearly he was never one of the more normal villains. I also know his partner is Watts, , but yeah. The climactic battle was pretty neat, and Jessica got her chance to shine in stopping him and getting them all home.
All in all, pretty fun as a fan of both franchises. I liked the dynamics, and definitely the creepy atmosphere when things would start glitching. Looking forward to Part Two!

I've been thinking of an Arkos Earth au, with former Olympian Pyrrha moving home with her mother to rehabilitate after a bad leg injury, and Jaune living with his sister Saphron and her family trying to figure out his next steps. (Though i guess he could be working as a crossing guard like in Vol7) (And i was thinking leg injury for the Achilles heel reference which the show also did)
It could be cute, with them supporting each other, him helping her get used to a more normal life and her encouraging him to be more confident.
And we could add in the other characters, like Yang could be another person doing injury rehab and befriends Pyrrha.
#rwby#pyrrha nikos#jaune arc#arkos#happy valentines day/anniversary of Pyrrha dying#anyway i still love them...

It's possible i'm really slow on this, but between Atlas literally floating over Mantle and Mistral having layers that get 'nicer' as you go up, RWBY rlly said "we are going to make upper and lower class very literal"
