Also like... what the alien woman goes through reminds me of the ostracization that Zim faces both on Earth and on his own planet. And also of the concept a lot of IZ fans write about where Zim eventually becomes more comfortable around humans.
"Under the Skin" is so eerie and unsettling, but it's also just... so sad. I don't watch a lot of alien-related stuff, to be fair, but this movie and Invader Zim are the only things I've seen where an alien is such an outcast, even among their own species, that they end up in an utterly hopeless situation with nowhere to go, and with no one but people harassing them and making fun of them.
If y'all like the concept of "Invader Zim but darker," a movie I strongly recommend is "Under the Skin" from 2013 (It's based on a book, but I haven't read it yet). Some of the aliens even have something similar to PAKs, and then one of them tries to eat human food but finds it repulsive.
It's really eerie and interesting, and one of my favorite things about it is that it's kind of a monster movie but it's in the monster's POV instead of in the POV of the people trying to get away from the monster. Scarlett Johansson plays the main character, but don't let that fool you, it's very out-of-genre for the type of movies she usually works on.
List of content warnings/trigger warnings/content notes for this movie. (i.e. There is a part of the movie with flashing lights, a part that might be considered ableist, a part that might be triggering for people with emetophobia.)

one of my favorite iz concepts: zim and dib teaming up to fight aliens attacking earth that are even more hostile than irkens, but how about we go even further, and they realize through their working together that they actually have a few big personal things in common & they're like "maybe we don't have to hate each other so much lol"

i haven't posted here in like 8 thousand years but anyway,, sometimes i think about how zim actually has potential and a fair amount of talent, but it doesn't really get him anywhere, and that's one of many fridgelight realities in the series that makes me very sad

Something funny about David Lynch's work is how it's often thought of as pretentious. I think it's actually one of the few families of artistic offspring that aren't pretentious (though I definitely have umbrage with some of Lynch's stuff ideologically).
Lynch explains exactly what he wants his films to be & how he thinks they should be consumed.
An absolute gift an artist can give to a potential audience is to encourage them to get lost in the experience first, then ask questions later. Encourage them to dream, don't guide them by the hand. Pass the torch of creativity to the audience.
Lynch's films are interactive in an artistic sense. The audience are encouraged to use their minds & dream & theorize, to meet the creator halfway. The audience's interpretation becomes part of the art.
When you think critically about a film or any work of art, you are creating art yourself, in a way. An indirect collaboration.
Lynch's format (& his own words) are an open invitation to be part of that dream.
In a way that's maybe even more accessible to some who want to create art, but have yet to find out how.
Art is hard. But many of us still have a fundamental need to create it. It can be as difficult as finding one's own identity. Because art is your identity in some form. Thankfully, some artists explicitly dedicate their own art to encourage others to dream & to create.

sometimes when i listen to Tool's darker, more somber cover of "You Lied" by Peach, i think about zim finally realizing that the tallest don't actually give a shit about him and were just lying and making fun of him the entire time, and then i get Big Sad

Invader Zim / ZaDf wallpaper I did + a partial greyscale version because I liked how it looked. Zim may be a lil grumpy about being out in the rain lol
Shoutout to all the peeps that watched me painstakingly draw this on Twitch stream <3

i have schizophrenia, so it can be difficult for me to write characters who don't suffer from psychosis or other acute mental health symptoms. but a character i'm actually attached to the idea about them having schizophrenia is dib. with the exception of when he was little, he can usually tell when he's hallucinating, and he will get frequent senses of just barely, temporarily believing that his delusions aren't plausible.
this makes things frustrating with his dad in terms of zim's existence. dib knows for sure that zim is an alien. usually. but since his dad knows full well that dib hallucinates and has delusions, and remembers when he was a younger kid and couldn't tell his hallucinations apart from reality, professor membrane automatically assumes dib is simply experiencing psychosis.
zim and dib eventually become friends, or at least not enemies anymore. zim is the only person dib feels he can talk to, and his existence is also somewhat comforting because it's solid proof to dib that he still has a grasp on reality, despite his isolation.
