Her bed has a thistle-purple duvet, adorned in an assortment of lavender gray and blue lilac pillows. The wardrobe is another room off to the left with golden drawers along with a rotating circle rack of many fabrics. Shoes get an entire section, a shelf filled with pairs from top to bottom. Clove rummages around them, in awe at the variety of pump height and type.

At home, she has a handful of pairs she’s worn for the past five years and they all have some form of wear and tear. Scuffs, peeling leather, or thinned soles. Many are uncomfortable and she begins to try on a mountain of options to see if they are a better fit. And they are, her perfect size.

More mirrors are around her, three secondary ones, and ahead of her, Clove catches her reflection again. She is a mess; hair tussled, lipstick smeared, and nude, barely recognizable to who she was when she arrived. The newly-cut bangs that drape down to her brows add to her unfamiliarity, like the reflection isn’t real, but another woman staring back with confusion, if not judgement. Looking away, she moves on to a set of heels she wouldn’t really be able to walk in.

Then, as she has velvet soft on feet, she is reminded of the tiny shoes passed around in District 2. Ones that are given to families lucky enough to have a baby who survived birth and the six months after. Those who keep the tiny boots or flats at the graves. People who in their anger and grief throw them into fires or sink them in old quarry water. How the markets always has plenty being sold at a low price, especially if they were donated.

In disgust, she kicks and scurries out barefoot, running straight for the shower. To wash herself of the makeup-turned-gunk weighing on her face, smothering her pores. Ripping off the false lashes, Clove discards them in the golden trashcan, realizing that even the things made for the disgusting are fancy here. Toilet included; a pure white scrubbed so thoroughly she thinks it has never seen a speck of shit in its porcelain life.

WIP Whenever

I was tagged a while ago by @thesweetnessofspring for this, and @zenkor123 & @thelettersfromnoone, for another WIP Wednesday. I've been so busy, but the @toastbabiesweek Toast Baby Week prompts are in August. I've got a few things I'm working on. Here's a sneak peek of Meadow's Call

Katniss watched them, her children in the meadow. The joy in her baby girl’s laughter and the gleeful shrieks of her toddler. Peeta chased them around. They were playing hide and seek in the tall grass.  Katniss watched Peeta swoop their baby boy Barley in the air. His gurgled laughter was joyful music to her ears. Her hands grasped the blanket as she recalled other shrieks in an arena far away. Her sister’s voice coming from the mouths of the Jabberjays.  “Mommy, look!” Meadow shouted. Hearing her daughter’s voice broke Katniss from the memory. She looked up to see her daughter with a fistful of dandelions running toward her. Seeing the yellow plants brought a smile to her face.

My uncle called me crazy for reading The Thing as an allegory for "the irrational and internalized American fear of Marxism and communism of the 80s."

But he's going to hate my second reading of the film: an allegory for men in the 80s fear of being emasculated and being intimate with other men.

During the quick shots we see attention bloodbath, Marvel and Glimmer are killing extremely brutally (stabbing their opponents repeatedly and viciously). Clove has an excuse of not being bloody because she can kill from a distance with her knives. However, with the fact we see Glimmer and Marvel kill like that, their weapons covered in blood and splashing of blood everywhere, they should logically be covered in more blood. I don't recall Cato killing with his bare hands other than the boy from 3, but that isnt during the bloodbath (and I'm not sure so I'd have to rewatch the scene lol)

If it is to show he is the most dangerous, that's okay, but I feel like the film failed in that tbh.

Some of y'all think the red on his neck here is a hickey, but... I'm pretty sure it's just blood.

Cato (for some reason) is actually the only Career we see covered in any blood that isn't their own throughout the film. There is blood on his shirt in this scene as well (Katniss trapped up in the tree) and on his hand as well.

You'd think they'd be covered in more blood considering they were there during the bloodbath, but the Careers are pretty clean (perhaps they used the lake but idk if they would care enough)

The one time there is evidence that Cato is a bloody tribute and y'all think it's a hickey.

Reading my own fanfiction is basically just a rollercoaster of emotional whiplash.

20% of the time: “Hold on. I wrote this? This is fire. This is emotionally devastating in the best way. This scene is dripping with tension. I’m a literary perfectionist. Someone give me a book deal.”

80% of the time: “Straight to jail. Immediate prison. Why is everyone’s breath hitching?. I used the word ‘gaze’ three times in one paragraph like I was possessed. Did I think 'his eyes darkened' was profound? Why is everyone clenching their jaws? Why is someone whispering 'their name like a prayer' again?? No one talks like this. What is this dialogue. Why are there so many weird metaphors and em-dashes…”
