Is it not in the present that the past is found? to be excavated? enmeshed and lively in all its riches?

Art is inseperable from struggle. All great art, in any medium, has stemmed thus far from struggle: think Satiyajit Ray, his Pather Panchali; it wouldn’t have happened if not Ray struggled 2 years to make it. If he could afford filming it in a month, we wouldn’t have any Pather Panchali. This is further proven by the lack in Ray’s later films—they are good, but unlike his debut film, not great.
Vintage film, the fetishization around it, is counter-productive to the 21st century artist. Only current means express fully current struggles.
