PLL THEORY: Katherine Daly is Bethany Young

Ever since Emma Dumont was announced back in August 2016 to play a character named Katherine Daly, the PLL fandom blew up with theories believing she was going to play a younger Mary and that the name “Katherine Daly” was a lie to cover it up. As we now know, her character IS called Katherine. It wouldn’t make sense anyway to make a fake name to hide the fact she’d play a “younger Mary”.

Everyone started to believe she could be playing a younger Mary when Emma Dumont posted this picture on Instagram with the caption, “Asylum chick vibes.”

First of all, she is wearing the RADLEY gown patients always wore, as well as slippers. Her hair is BLONDE and she resembles (well, to me) Bethany from 6x10 (”Game Over, Charles”).

When we first see Katherine in 7x11 (”Playtime”), she greets Hanna after Mona got in contact with her so she could see Hanna’s clothing designs (Katherine is a fashionista of some sort). Where do they first meet? THE RADLEY.

Bethany, obviously, was in Radley as we all know. Katherine Daly has a creepy vibe to me. She greets Hanna and mentions that she is the daughter of Senator Daly, and is running a fundraiser for her dad. I believe Katherine had a disturbing past and was, indeed, Bethany Young in Radley. Perhaps this was an alias so no one would discover she was the senator’s daughter, or maybe Bethany is her real name.

Katherine notes how she likes designs, and we all know how much Bethany loved to draw...

Most characters that are related with “A” (Bethany knew Charlotte/Charles) or are “A” are fashionistas. Mona and Charlotte were, and we first met Charlotte when she mentioned she was a stylist in a boutique. We knew from the very beginning Mona was into fashion after she stopped being “Loser Mona”.

I am assuming that Katherine is from New York because Hanna said she voted for her dad whilst in New York. Why would she come all the way to Rosewood just to look at some clothing designs? Perhaps she’s always been here and is working with A.D. Maybe Bethany/Katherine moved to New York after being in Radley.

As for the night Bethany died, I’ve always believed that no one actually died that night. We all know how Charlotte had access to medical cadavers, as mentioned by Marlene in an interview when she revealed a cadaver was in the barrel from S5. Maybe Charlotte put a cadaver in the grave and put Katherine’s/Bethany’s DNA on it so it’d be identified as her, along with a blonde wig and yellow blouse. Maybe there is a reason to why she did this. If not, maybe she really was hit by Mona and buried alive by Melissa, but she was pulled out. She wants revenge on them all for what happened as she’s mentally insane! Don’t forget, Bethany supposedly killed Toby’s mother Marion.

How could I forget Allison and Catherine from The Pierces and in the Secret music video (PLL’s theme song)? Even though Allison was the brunette and Catherine was the blonde (the lead singers from The Pierces), and they’re spelt differently from Alison and Katherine in the show, maybe they’re bringing this to PLL itself. Catherine killed Allison in the music video for exposing her secret! Could we see Alison vs Katherine in PLL?

There isn’t much else to go by, but I will definitely keep my eye on Katherine as her next appearance will be in 7x13 (”Hold Your Piece”).

SPENCER HASTINGS MURDERED CHARLOTTE DILAURENTIS

I would like to note that my theory will, obviously, sound similar to other theories as anyone can have the same theory as another person! That does not mean I have stolen from anyone! Just clarifying before anyone assumes anything.

WHAT DID SPENCER HASTINGS DO ON THE NIGHT OF CHARLOTTE DILAURENTIS' MURDER? We know that Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer stayed at The Radley the night Charlotte was killed, and that Aria disappeared during the night and met up with Ezra—however, is there more to the story? What if Aria went out before the killer did? We know she came back after Charlotte was killed, which was around 4AM. The killer was clever about what they did, and we all know Spencer Hastings is very, very intelligent.

We see that in 3x12 ("The Lady Killer") Spencer mentions the movie "Basic Instinct", about a woman who writes novels about crimes, before actually committing them in real life. They are basically used as an ALIBI. What's funny is that in 6x12 ("Charlotte's Web"), the episode after Charlotte is killed, Spencer says she wrote an essay for college in criminology, and she wrote one about a bride who was killed on the day of her wedding. She was murdered the EXACT same way Charlotte was, down to the very detail. Spencer said she showed Ezra this when he was tossing around ideas for his next book (to inspire him), and she told the Liars this when they all thought Ezra killed Charlotte. Did Spencer USE this as an alibi? Did she try to pin the blame on Ezra?

When Lorenzo tells the girls at the funeral in 6x11 ("Of Late I Think of Rosewood") that Charlotte was murdered and didn't commit suicide, all the girls have stunned expressions...except for Spencer. She literally looks DOWN and flickers her eyes. She doesn't even question it like the other girls did. When Aria says, "Did they wait for Charlotte to get released so they could kill her?", Spencer immediately says, "Don't go there". HIDING SOMETHING SPENCER?

At Charlotte's hearing, Spencer looked like she really wanted to plead the judge to not release Charlotte, but she lied anyway for Ali. This would come to a whole blow later on! Spencer wanted to hide the fact that she killed Charlotte and couldn't tell the girls this. They had been away from each other for FIVE YEARS. While they may have been her best friends in high school, I don't think she'd immediately trust them again well enough to tell them that she murdered someone. This ties in with UBER A and HANNA'S KIDNAPPING. Uber A had shown how dedicated they were to finding Charlotte's killer when they kidnapped Hanna. Hanna claimed that she had killed Charlotte in order for Uber A to back off. Spencer thought this plan would work and they would scare off Uber A so no one would have to worry. She was SCARED Uber A knew what she did. She didn't know it was going to go to the extreme when Hanna was kidnapped. When Hanna did her false confession to Spencer in 6x19 ("Did You Miss Me?"), Spencer was shocked and teary...or was it because it reminded her of the very thing she did? The very GUILT-RIDDING crime she committed?

After Hanna was kidnapped, Spencer was FRIGHTENED and TERRIFIED of what Uber A could do. She COULDN'T admit she murdered Charlotte now, and she knew she'd lose all of her friends in the act. It could also cost her life too. She now knew what Uber A was CAPABLE OF! Why is it that SPENCER is always the one who wakes up to look for the missing person? Like in 1x01 ("Pilot") and 3x01 ("It Happened 'That Night'"), she woke up and looked everywhere for Alison/Emily. Could she have done the same thing the night Charlotte died? Did she go out looking for Aria? I believe she woke up and noticed Aria was gone. Spencer walked out to look for her, only to see CHARLOTTE go into the church. Spencer wanted to CONFRONT her after years of torture, and wanted to hear from her why she did it. Spencer ran there and entered the church. That's when ALISON, in the RED SWEATER, came in. Spencer hid and witnessed their argument. Ali left and Spencer went up to the bell tower and confronted Charlotte. At first, it was a nerve-wracking little confrontation...which led into a BIG fight, making Spencer grab the nearest object and impale it into Charlotte's neck. She didn't know what to do, so she thought of the quickest thing and remembered her college essay. She did what she had to do and cleaned Charlotte's fingernails and throwing her off the tower.

Why have we seen flashbacks and hallucinations of Spencer going after a BLONDE?? Why was that always hinted at, or pointed to? It was FORESHADOWING Charlotte's murder! Keep in mind each of the Liars have killed someone, except for SPENCER! Jenna and Uber A finally had their suspicions in 7x10 ("The DArkest Knight") when the Liars were in a showdown, leading to Spencer being shot by Uber A. Why? BECAUSE SPENCER KILLED CHARLOTTE!

My Uber A theory is that it is Spencer's identical twin sister, Avery Drake. Can you imagine how DRAMATIC and JAW-DROPPING it would be to see two sisters fighting in an epic showdown?! It would be certainly tense to see the psychopathic stalker go up against her killer sister! Mary would be in an uproar and SCARED to see her daughters wanting to kill each other! She would be beside herself. Spencer would be DEVASTATED to learn that she murdered her own SISTER unknowingly! It would make for an AMAZING story!

I noticed that in 7x08 ("Exes and OMGs") when Spencer and Aria visited Dr. Cochran to get information on Mary's second child, she was wearing a GRAY SWEATER! This goes back to a scene in 4x23 ("Unbridled") where Spencer was wearing the same sweater. This was during an argument she had with her mother Veronica (or, as we know now, her adoptive mother of some sort). Veronica said in the scene: "It was as if there were two of you living in this house—the Spencer we recognized and your EVIL TWIN, and we never knew which one was coming down to breakfast." WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

This is it guys. Bethany Young is endgame. She IS Uber A / A.D. and Spencer’s twin, and Wren is her helper... because she looks so much like Spencer!

PLL THEORY: JENNA WAS THE TRUE RED COAT

This is a theory pointing out that Jenna Marshall was the other/true Red Coat. I believe she was on the A-Team since Charlotte’s rise as Big “A”, and I believe Sara Harvey was only a decoy like Charlotte stated.

First of all, I am going to start with the fact that Jenna went to Noel Kahn’s Halloween party in 2x13 (”The First Secret”; the prequel episode) as Lady Gaga... in a red, hooded outfit. You may think that it means nothing, but nothing is really a coincidence in Rosewood. Foreshadowing much?

At that party, she met Mona and they befriended each other, becoming friends seemingly. This, to me, says it all. This is when Mona knew she could turn Jenna against Alison.

I’d also like to point out that Jenna usually wears ‘Jungle Red’ lipstick. I am assuming it is her favorite color. After all, it was Alison’s signature color too.

Jenna was working in two different divisions, and in both, she tried to take down the Liars—the “A-Team” and “Melissa’s Alliance” (with Shana). When we saw Jenna with Melissa and Shana in 3x24 (”A dAngerous gAme”) while Charlotte was plotting against the Liars at the lodge, Charlotte had to bring in a decoy Red Coat... which was Sara Harvey. Jenna and Sara never met though until Season 7 when they knew they both assisted Charlotte in her gAme.

No one other than Jenna has had a stronger reason to hate the Liars. They BLINDED her! I’d be pretty pissed too, even if it was an accident. Jenna came to Rosewood as the new girl who just wanted to make friends. Alison, being the bitch she was, decided to instantly hate Jenna only because she turned down her offer to join her group (the Liars). Yes, Jenna may have sorta forced her step-brother into relations with her, but that was an mistake. Like Jenna says, “We all make mistakes that we’re not proud of.”

Jenna turned into the way she is today because of Alison and the Liars. THEY damaged her! She didn’t do it to herself. She couldn’t forgive them for what they did to her. And to think they’ve still gotten away with it disgusts me a little. Since then, Jenna has wanted revenge. She became Red Coat and assisted Charlotte to take them down.

Remember Emily’s disappearance in 3x01 (”It Happened ‘That Night’”), and that Jenna had “rescued” her? She didn’t rescue her. Jenna was there that night digging up Alison’s grave with Charlotte. Jenna claimed she had found Emily drunk and lonely, so she put her in the car. Emily didn’t remember anything that happened that night until it slowly came back to her. She recalled being in Jenna’s car... and Jenna was wearing, somewhat, a red coat!

Jenna was seen putting her hair up while driving the car, but why? Because she was wearing a blonde wig as RC!

In 4x01 (”’A’ is for A-l-i-v-e”), we see Jenna going to Wilden’s funeral with a man named Nigel. Later on in 4x07 (”Crash and Burn, Girl!”), Toby and Caleb go to see Nigel for answers towards the “girl in the red coat”. Nigel claims he was paid by CeCe Drake, who is Charlotte. Who says he wasn’t protecting Jenna by revealing her partner’s identity instead of hers?

He was later seen having a drink with a girl he called “babe”, who I think was Jenna. There were dark glasses sitting on the table, hinting towards it being Jenna. Toby and Caleb found out he was the pilot of the plane Red Coat was seen getting off of at the lodge fire. The lodge fire makes perfect sense when it comes to Jenna. The Liars blinded her with a stink bomb that started a fire. Maybe Jenna wanted the same to happen to them?

In 3x24, the episode that has the lodge fire incident, we see “A” sending Jenna a message, saying: “32 Rte 6. Be there at 9 tonight. -A”. Was Charlotte telling her where to go?

I found something quite convincing. When I. Marlene King was responding to a fan regarding Red Coat on Twitter back in 2013, she said this:

Jenna could easily walk in heels like that when she was supposedly turning blind again, and possibly run in them, as shown in 3x24:

Jenna is a great liar. She’s a master at lying like Charlotte. We now know that they were good friends, but Shana revealed to Spencer in 4x09 (”Into the Deep”) that Jenna was afraid of CeCe/Charlotte. What if this was a cover-up? We know that Nigel protected Jenna, so Shana probably did too. Or maybe Jenna was afraid of Charlotte because she knew her intentions and what she was capable of, yet she still played the game with her. Marlene said that Charlotte was the one who hit Jenna and left her to drown in 4x09. I believe this wasn’t true. It was another cover-up. It also doesn’t make sense with the timeline now that we know Charlotte and Jenna were friends.

Jenna was Red Coat most of the time and the only time Charlotte was Red Coat was in 4x12 (”Now You See Me, Now You Don’t”) when she was used as a decoy to distract the Liars from Alison, and also when Red Coat crept into the DiLaurentis home and snuck into the basement. Those were the only times she was Red Coat. The rest was Jenna. Sara was only Red Coat when Charlotte needed her to be. She was a decoy like she said she was. Charlotte protected Jenna. We know that Jenna is working with A.D. to bring down the Liars, and she wants to find Charlotte’s killer. She was definitely good friends with her and working with her at some point if she wasn’t Red Coat.

I’d like to point out that Red Coat started appearing when Jenna got her sight back, and then disappeared again when Jenna lost her sight. Coincidence?   We saw Wren in 4x10 (”The Mirror Has Three Faces”) coloring in a red coat onto his picture of a long-haired brunette. Many fans have suspected Wren of being involved with the A-Team. Was this hinting towards Jenna being RC? Maybe he knew?

I could go on and on, but I believe Jenna was always the real Red Coat. She is endgame.

WERE THERE OTHERS TRAPPED IN THE DOLLHOUSE?

I was re-watching 5x25 “Welcome to the Dollhouse” and when The Liars and Mona are playing the prom date game, there are two chimes and Mona goes to the blue mailbox and pulls out invitations to the “senior prom” Charles is throwing.

Mona says, “There is something for everyone today.” I thought we were led to believe Mona and Sara were the only two in the Dollhouse up until the Liars’ arrival, and Mona didn’t even know Sara was in the Dollhouse with her. The way Mona said it was as if there was more people. She specifically said “today” as well, as if she’s played the game before and she has gotten some sort of present in the mailbox.

As soon as the two chimes were heard, Mona got up and went to the mailbox as if she already knew it was there, and that there was something in it. Mona said “for everyone”, meaning that when she played it before, there was only one present/gift for her. Does anyone get what I mean?

6x10: GAME OVER CHARLES

The biggest obstacle I think between us and figuring out the PLL Endgame is knowing the EXTENT to which Charlotte lied in 6x10, which parts were the truth, which were lies, which were both truth and lies mixed. ALL information we learn about by Charlotte in 6x10 is unreliable which makes it close to impossible to eliminate scenrios and hence, suspects. The important scene which we need to figure out the truth about is the one with Bethany and Charles on the rooftop in Radley. Once we figure out what is the truth from 6x10, we’ll almost (if not entirely) figure out how the series will end.

This may be nothing but I've been rewatching from season 1 and I noticed something. When Ian is trying to kill Spencer he says "you pushed her and she fell" and then she says something like "she died of suffocation. (S1xE22)" But then for the episodes that follow in season 2, Spencer says she died because of "blunt force trauma" and seems surprised when she reads that "Alison" was breathing in dirt and buried alive (S2xE8)... Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, I was just suspicious haha

Hmm... I am thinking that was a fault on the writers’ part. Alison/Bethany was frequently mentioned over the series of being “buried alive” so I think it is safe to assume she died from suffocation.

My rant about Alison DiLaurentis and Mona Vanderwaal: Just to clarify, I am not hating on these two characters. These two are the most beautifully written, complex characters I have ever laid my eyes on. Alison and Mona have both undoubtedly had the most character development in the show, and without them, it wouldn't be PLL at all. First of all, I am gonna say this plainly: the four other Liars are nothing but a pile of sandbags. They are NOTHING compared to these two. Yeah, I do admit Spencer is also quite complex herself, but Aria, Emily and Hanna? They haven't had much character development. No episode passes by without Aria changing the topic to Ezra in some way, Emily judging others and Hanna saying dumb shit. Then Spencer is always there to solve their messes while they go dazzle it up with their love interests. I can see why people hate on Ali and Mona more than other characters—they have CHARACTER. They have had DEVELOPMENT. If it weren't for these two, the four main Liars would be lying in a jail cell right now. Right, they have both done horrible stuff, but you can't justify anyone else. Everyone has made mistakes, and these two have paid for theirs countless of times. Alison has been there and back; she has SAVED the Liars so many freaking times when she was Red Coat! How do they repay her? Of course, they accuse her of being 'A' and other stuff, such as murdering Charlotte! Alison spent five years of her life taking care of Charlotte. She DEDICATED her life to her She loved her with all of her heart. You could see how desperate and passionate she was about having her home and being one happy family. It just so happens that Ezra and Aria decided to fuck off one night at 4AM and coincidentally saw a blonde girl. Wow, there must be only one blonde girl in the whole of Rosewood! They think EVERYTHING revolves around Alison. Every murder, every punishment, every happening. Alison isn't the freaking godfather of the Mafia! From there, they accused her of murdering Charlotte, the one person Ali spent her life with for five years. I seriously don't wanna add more detail into why she wouldn't when it should be clearly fucking obvious. This is WHY the Liars piss me off. They decide to sit on a table playing "Guess Who?" and randomly suggest that Alison is the one who did it, all because they saw a blonde on the same night. Yeah, that HAPPENED and did TURN OUT to be Alison, but come on, seriously? I think Alison has had enough to last a lifetime. All of this hate towards Emison. "I think Alison only uses her whenever she needs to." "I think Alison plays with her feelings." NO, BULLCRAP! The way she is like this is because she knows what they've been through. Emily is one of them who have accused Alison of something terrible, and Ali can't ignore that. If you want the truth, the four Liars are just as bad as Alison if you can count her that way. Mona? Well, if you didn't have her they would be on trial right now for killing Archer motherfucking Dunhill. Wow, she was A! Wow, she tortured them! Wow, she hit Hanna with a car! And wow, I couldn't give a shit. Mona has been through so much trauma too. The Liars LET Alison bully her. Mona has a mental illness, and don't try to make that less of the fact. Mona clearly hasn't had the best upbringing or high school experience. All she wanted to do is be Alison's friend and she was always thrown away. She tried so badly. She finally got a friend and found one in Hanna. Mona wanted her friend to herself because this was the first and actual friend she has had. When Aria, Emily and Spencer started crawling back, Mona started thinking of the worst. She thought she was going to turn into Loser Mona again. Mona has been trying to prove her loyalty ever since her exposure as 'A'. They always accuse her of being at the same place at the same time, and if she hadn't taken the car they used to smash Archer's head in, they would be rotting away. Mona and Alison aren't any less of a human than YOU are! Take that for a thought. Thank you for reading.
