Would you be willing to share any memorable steps you took on the path of lessening anxiety? I liked your comment on “deliberately acting against expectations” (paraphrasing)
I became evil.

I just love the obsession german has with idiomatic little rhymes and alliterations.
Mit Sack und Pack. Glanz und Gloria. Schicht im Schacht. Flinke Füße. Mit Hängen und Würgen. Mehr schlecht als recht. Versuch macht kluch. Klar wie Kloßbrühe. Hätte, hätte, Fahrradkette. Saus und Braus. Ende Gelände.
our speech is full of little flounces and flourishes and tbh it's adorable of us.

It’s hard to know what really happened at ancient Bacchanalia — they were, after all, secret and often illegal. This is the decree restricting Bacchanalia in Rome:
Tumblr media
But whatever really happened back in ancient times, more modern artists have had a lot of fun imagining what went down at these festivals of wine and fertility. This is Titian's version of one:

In everything from staid, neoclassical renderings (like this) to more debauched scenes (you'll have to click on the newsletter link to see those)...
Tumblr media
The Bacchanalia has given artists a template on which they can explore the nexus of pleasure, chaos, and abandon.

I haven't gotten far enough learning German yet 😭😭 What's the "i don't spider" idiom? I must know
In colloquial German the verb "spinnen" means not only to spin (ie yarn) but also to be crazy. You can say things like "ich glaube ich spinne" (I believe I'm crazy= reaction to something crazy, disbelief) or "du spinnst wohl" (you must be crazy = are you nuts?!).
Die Spinne means spider as a noun so "ich glaube ich spinne" sometimes gets incorrectly translated as "I think I spider" as a joke.
Incorrectly translating idioms, proverbs etc for fun is a German pastime (see also Germans humorously describing their English as "not the yellow of the egg" to indicate it's not exactly the "cream of the crop")

“I’m wearing a top with beadings, and a dress that titled itself as Tiffany Blue from High River on Taobao. The boots are No. 2201 Jolie Snaps by Paloma Wool. Stockings are The Emotional Fracture of Insects by Toetoe from China. The bag is a 2007 Christian Dior Polochon from Tokyo, just big enough for an iPad Pro. Necklaces are a. vintage Nina Ricci and a jade my mom gave me as an amulet. This morning I thought of that photo of Nicole Kidman full of joy as she leaves her attorney’s office. Maybe that’s the energy I’m going for subconsciously. Mostly, I dress for the weather, for fun, and whether I’ll get paint on me.”

My favorite soup is tarator. It is a cold soup made of yogurt and cucumbers. Also you can and should put garlic, walnuts and dill in it.
Here's a picture:
Tumblr media
Oh, I never had that before, but it looks/sounds delicious! It sounds a bit like tzatziki, and I love that, and I love soup. Is there a special recipe that is recommended?
The more I think about it, the more I want to try it👀 also garlic and dill make everything better XD, I usually only eat walnuts as a hand snack when they are in season, but I can see how their taste might give to something built on yogurt

the infuriating thing is that there is genuinely so much good queer literature out there, contemporary and not, but there is also a sizeable chunk of readers who think that a book only "counts" as good queer literature if it's a) unproblematic, b) contains romance as its central focus, and c) has the characters state their orientation and/or gender identity directly to the audience using socially acceptable 21st-century terms (as opposed to resorting to cowardly tactics such as Subtext and Themes)

In 1909, the biologist Jakob von Uexküll noted that every animal exists in its own unique perceptual world — a smorgasbord of sights, smells, sounds and textures that it can sense but that other species might not. These stimuli defined what von Uexküll called the Umwelt — an animal’s bespoke sliver of reality. A tick’s Umwelt is limited to the touch of hair, the odor that emanates from skin and the heat of warm blood. A human’s Umwelt is far wider but doesn’t include the electric fields that sharks and platypuses are privy to, the infrared radiation that rattlesnakes and vampire bats track or the ultraviolet light that most sighted animals can see.
The Umwelt concept is one of the most profound and beautiful in biology. It tells us that the all-encompassing nature of our subjective experience is an illusion, and that we sense just a small fraction of what there is to sense. It hints at flickers of the magnificent in the mundane, and the extraordinary in the ordinary. And it is almost antidramatic: It reveals that frogs, snakes, ticks and other animals can be doing extraordinary things even when they seem to be doing nothing at all.
