still thinking about how I found alec lightwood, the most unhinged and confused teenager to ever teenage when I was thirteen and then grew with him as we both fumbled friendships and relationships and learnt about love and reaponsibity and letting go. still can't believe my baby boy is consul now. he has a loving warlock husband and two kids. he's everything I want to be, and he's so grown up and I'm still stuck in this precipice of adulthood and childhood. but ykw? that's okay. he makes me realise that I will also grow up and can have what I want. he makes me realise the paper cuts can bleed but they will also heal and this is the reason why silly fantasy novels aren't silly at all. sometimes they tell u that a messy gay teenager can make mistakes and learn from them and grow up and be the leader of his people.

⚠️ main character death (before the fic starts)

AU where Alec and Lydia get married and move to Idris. Magnus had New York after the fall of Valentine and Jonathan because everything reminded him of Alec. A few years into marriage they have a kid and then eventually Alec dies.

Twenty years later a young (most likely 17-18) shadowhunter shows up to Magnus apartment having tracked him down. It’s Alec and Lydia’s daughter who looks just like Alec. She’s holding Alec’s journal and an urn with Alec’s ashes and wearing his leather jacket. She wanted to meet the man her father loved.

Equipped with her dad’s bow, uncle simon’s van, and a playlist of her dad’s favorite songs she hits the road going all the places Alec never got to go.

She wants to spread his ashes and hold a memorial in Provincetown, she knows it’s a mundane town but wants her father at rest with people who would love and accept him as he is and the clave doesn’t offer that.

I thought about Magnus going with her, the two people who loved Alec as he was (Yes I know Jace and Izzy do too but bear with me) to honor him.

Alec Lightwood-Bane Headcanons

nobody asked for this at all but alas i've supplied it anyway. some of these are extremely ooc and is just me projecting onto the character i attached myself to when i was 12. if you don't agree, i dont really care lol.

alec cant cook but magnus has been slowly teaching him how to cook. he excels at simpler recipes. he likes to make pancakes and popsicles with max and Rafa.

everyone has different nicknames for him. his parents and everyone else he meets calls him alec. magnus calls him alexander and sayang. isabelle and max call him alec or ally when they are sad. jace, lily, and maia call him xander. maryse calls him alexander on special occasions.

alec has anxiety, depression, and autism. he also has an eating disorder: either osfed or arfid.

he loves to read. since coming out he started reading mundane novels. he reads queer romance and history books.

he actually likes simons music but pretends he doesnt to mess with simon. similar to how he sometimes pretends he doesnt like clary.

hes religious. i dont care if "shadowhunters arent religous" alec is. he has an altar for raziel in his home and sometimes he wakes up early to pray at sunrise. once in a while he attends mundane mass with raphael. he prays for everyone he loves.

alec helps his mother at her bookstore a lot. he goes in the mornings when demon activity is low and they have brunch together. shes more motherly now and he likes that their relationship is healing. sometimes magnus tags along.

he goes to support groups just like izzy does. she goes for her addiction, alec goes to a one for survivors of forced/ arranged marriages.

^^^ the almost marriage to lydia still affects him. he gets anxious and struggles with communicating his needs due to his autonomy being taken.

raphael was his first crush (books) but not his gay awakening. his gay awakening was angel in btvs.

he has a strict diet and doesnt eat a lot of sugar, eats at specific times unless its an emergency.

he eventually tries makeup for magnus. he doesnt like most of it but sometimes he paints his nails and wears small amounts of eyeliner.

he has movie night/sleepovers with lily and maia. He does with jace too but jace isnt invited to "girls" night.

he loves when magnus buys him flowers or little gifts. he was embarrassed the first time but now he likes it.

anyway. im sure ill come up with more later.
