Redesign of Bloom’s Season 3 Ballgown 🌸💕✨

| This honestly took me an embarrassingly long time to come up with despite being such a simple design. I basically simplified the original outfit and gave it a softer color scheme. I plan to redesign the other girls’ dresses as well, starting with Stella. I have some ideas sketched up but haven’t imported them to digital yet. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this! <3

Sayid as a frame of cultural context in his relationships is so interesting....... because his relationship with shannon is never framed as him being seduced by the american ideal or american lifestyle, she never really represents that to him despite being the epitome of beautiful, white miss america (which she's often referred to as only because that was how naveen framed the relationship when he suggested it – and its what he calls maggie) and mostly because their relationship exists on the island as opposed to the real world (perhaps if it was the real world, the relationship might have this framing) but because of what we know about sayid more so than shannon, the relationship is more contextualised as humanising him as a person and her falling for him in his entirety, including his ethnicity and his past.

While within the story nadia is often framed as the Good Arab™ to his Bad Arab™ she's the victim of the "evil regime" while he's the perpetrator, she moves to America, she stops wearing her head-covering, she convinces him to abandon his country and run away. his relationship with her is framed as her saving him from the evil of their home so they can live happily ever after in America. And not to mention nadia is the good "virginal" woman who waits 7 years for a man while shannon is the gold-digging "whore" who's been with all these men supposedly, who cons and manipulates, who uses her looks to seduce men. in terms of religion and traditional gender roles, shannon is a much less desirable or acceptable lover – hence why she's often so hated compared to nadia, because nadia (while still a woman of colour) represents something viewers can project their own ideas onto because she lacks specific depth and she exists only for sayid within an already deeply misogynistic narrative. she's a perfect woman. while shannon is a flawed one.
