Drove up a tree lined path at dusk to reach the dreamy @dvorec_zemono The tasting menu featured local fresh ingredients with lots of creativity thrown in. The atmosphere was very relaxed, although that might have had something to do with all the pinot noir 🙃. But seriously the ambience was perfect - and no I didn't ask for ketchup (Micky Flanagan sketch anyone?! 😂). Favourite dish had to be dessert - sweet and bitter lemon sorbet with agar agar pearls. Found this little gem of a vegan spot before the flight home. @gaudiandnaan 's menu was really well thought out, with interesting ingredient pairings and all reasonably priced. (I find so many places/products are overpriced just because they have the word vegan attached. I need more then tinned lentils y'know. Ok rant over 😅). Starters: Gnocchi and cauliflower Aubergine and black garlic, black olive and vanilla tapenade and cashew basil pesto. Main: Chickpea, sweet potato and spinach curry Cashew filled sarme/ cabbage roll with mashed potato and topinambur chips. The fillling was delicious - nutty with a rich bolognese type sauce. So the final pic was the definite highlight of the trip. Introducing the best snack ever - PEANUT BUTTER CORN PUFFS. So addictive. The final offerings 🌱 Carta di musica with a broad bean dip and pickled beetroot roses Banana blossom tempura and tofu panure à l’anglaise aka vegan fish and chips Sugar snap and bobbi bean vignole White sourdough and cashew cheese I bought into the lockdown sourdough craze and let’s just say there were several attempts and lots of head shaking 😅. Kimchi stew, kimchi rice with sticky tofu and bindaetteok (mung bean pancakes) with a wood ear and cumumber salad. (Best tofu I have ever eaten - no exaggeration folks! Crispy and sticky on the outside with so much flavour). First time cooking with kimchi; it is such a versatile food adding a lovely tang to dishes. I did wimp out with the heat so next time I'll definitely add more chilli. Next up is Spanish potato tortilla with a romesco dip, padron peppers and a tomato salad. All the pasta. Making these delicate little shapes was very therapeutic. I'm definitely not the neatest pasta shaper but I'm blaming that on my impatient hungry tum. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Lunch was gnocchetti with cavolo nero, chard and chilli and a roasted squash, sage, garlic and soya ricotto ravioli in a caper and sage sauce (yes, there were 2 lunches 😏). Fatcooks are delicious Zimbabwean doughnuts, slightly crisp with a fluffy interior; they are the perfect afternoon pick me up. Needing only 5 ingredients, fatcooks are definitely a humble snack. As promised... A vegan 3 tier sponge cake with vanilla buttercream, meringue kisses and fresh berries, finished with a sprinkling of freeze dried strawberries. Don't rush creaming the oil and sugar as it really helps to make the sponge light and airy. I've also used plenty of raising agents to give the cake some height. Another top tip: slowly fold in the flour to make sure you don't knock out any air. Recipe to soon follow. Here we have a vegan Eton mess, combining crushed meringue nests, chopped sourplums, plum compote, fresh cream and brown sugar. Creamy chia overnight oats with griddled cinnamon pineapple, @urbanfruituk coconut chips and pumpkin seeds. 🌱 Chia seeds are a nutritional powerhouse, being high in both protein and omega 3. They absorb a lot of liquid and grow into glutinous pearls making them a great replacement for eggs in vegan baking. 🍍 Pineapples are grown in abundance in South Africa, so I’ve added these to the chia overnight oats for a taste of summer (because British summer is currently non-existent 🙄). Griddle chunks of fresh pineapple before adding cinnamon, demerara sugar and lime. Finish with toasted coconut chips and pumpkin seeds for some added crunch.
