Holy fuck. So I told my nana that I wasn’t gonna be able to pick plums cause today was so stressful. She called and offered to pick them and pass them to my mom who she was having lunch with.

She called me after their lunch and told me, “Your mom said it was a lot but I said she has friends, she can take plenty!”

I laughed and agreed. My mom texted me that the plums were in her car so when I got free I headed over.

So.

Many.

Plums.

It’s a full ass flat of plums. I cannot believe my nana could even carry this fucker. It’s just gonna be wall to wall plums in my house for the next two weeks if they don’t all spoil. Every time I look at the box I get hysterical. I preemptively apologized to my beloved wife.

Does anyone know why the tree in pictures 1 and 3 would turn pink? It's not pink every year; some years the leaves are pink, and other years they're green. What environmental conditions (or any other factor) could cause such a thing? In the five years I've known it it's been pink twice. If anyone has any idea, I would really love to know. The darker red tree is just a plum tree - it's always got red leaves. The bright pink is what confuses me. I am not shooting infrared - it's actually that color. Cherries were on the same block and are just keeping me company in my confusion.

Prunus mume 梅 (also plum blossom or Chinese plum) is intimately associated with art, literature, and everyday life in China, from where it was then introduced to Korea, Vietnam, and Japan. The flower is one of the “Three Friends of Winter” along with bamboo and pine. 🌸🎋🌲

Its fruit, known as meizi 梅子 in Chinese, is used in juices and sauces; as a flavoring for alcohol; and may be pickled or dried. It is also used in traditional Chinese medicine.

I think that's the first time I've seen green plums. Most of the ones I've seen are dark purple. How do they compare to purple plums?

Okay so my fav, Italian plums, are the ones they use to make prunes and they are incomparable. A+ plums. No other plum is doing it like Italian plums, that’s the pinnacle of pluminess as far as I’m concerned.

These are a low B-. They’re juicy and the skin is tart but they’re not overall as flavorful as I would wish. My nana in fact called to tell me my favorite plums were ripe and I said, “I didn’t know you had Italian plums.”

She paused then said, “Okay these aren’t your favorite but they’re really juicy, you’ll love them.” She says this every year when foisting suboptimal plums on me.
