Redo because I wanted to edit a few things: I actually like how Alec and Fiore's relationship falls apart in Season 1. I don't really see it as shock factor (honestly he feels like the most predictable choice to be eliminated that episode for both in-universe and out-of-universe reasons) or as Fiore being turned into a one-dimensional character, but rather as the show's villain succumbing to her character flaws of mistrust and selfishness and choosing the game over her friendship with Alec, ruining it in the process. And the cracks in the image of Alec as Fiore's ideal father figure start to show more prominently as he ends up rather pettily throwing the words of her parents back at her.
What I don't like is how their reconciliation is handled. It's sped-run. It starts well enough. The first few episodes set up that there's a rift between them, but then Alec takes pity on Fiore and saves her from elimination a few times and then invites her to his alliance. And then nothing happens between them until the comeback episode where they're all buddy buddy with each other again. Is Alec still mad about Fiore's betrayal? Guess not! Does Fiore, who has a bad relationship with her own parents, have any thoughts on her friend being a shifty father? Guess not! It is utterly baffling how the writers did the bare minimum to get Alec and Fiore back together and I think most people agree that Fiore was wasted as a character.
So, for a rewrite, actually give them an arc where they make up and grow as people instead of shoving their relationship aside. Where maybe Fiore learns to value her friendship with Alec over the game and Alec improves in his treatment of children.

Also, while some people are disappointed that Rosa Maria wasn't a competitor in All-Stars, after multiple seasons of Total Drama where characters kept coming back even after it was clear that being on the show was a horrible experience and that even the winner wasn't guaranteed the prize money, it's nice for someone to just say "No thanks, I'm good". Just wish that was in the actual show instead of on Twitter.
yeah thats my issue with some things, can you just tell them in canon instead of through greetings or twitter? whats the point of them being confirmed if a regular watcher wouldnt know them?

People want the show to explore Lake's attraction to girls, which is fine, but if you want to do that you need to identify a girl for her to be, well, attracted to. So maybe in Season 2 she has an unrequited crush on Rosa Maria.
ooooo i like what youre thinking

Hot Take: Fiore’s rivalry with Ashley actually had potential. It was actually the most interesting relationship Ashley had and informed a lot of her other relationships, including her relationship with Jake. But in the end all it amounted to was Ashley going: "I'm going to vote out Fiore and get my revenge!" "But not this time." "Not this time." "Okay, now!" *Fiore is voted out* "Ah did it." Literally the most interesting thing that happens, besides the set-up that these two are going to have a rivalry, is when Ashley thwarts Fiore’s attempt to get back in the game by lassoing her to the ground, because then something’s actually happening.
It would’ve been great if they had actually done something with this, because on one level, Fiore’s never quite had a rival before. Enemies, sure, but never someone who could accurately described as a nemesis. It might’ve been fun to see that dynamic.
Or, hell, maybe actually explore the morality of having an evil child for an enemy. How do you handle that? How far is too far? Question if Ashley is actually just in this situation or if she’s simply pursuing vengeance because her pride was wounded? Explore their relationship. Have it end in a different place from where it started or deepen and flesh it out.
In other words, for a rewrite we’d do something with the premise they presented here.
nodding along. this is very good. it felt like a very one dimensional relationship. 'aw boohoo a child hurt my feelings two years ago now im a petty bitch and shes gone yay arc over' does not cut it for ALL STARS.

Regarding poly representation, I think Hunter is the one most likely to be poly and Huntessally seems to be the poly ship closest to being canon. But on the other hand, I don’t particularly like Hunter (because of stuff like taking Tess’s pills and his treatment of Fiore). And from what I understand, a lot of Hunter’s writing in Season 2 was being done by a guy called Carazar Zone, who basically wrote him as a self-insert harem protagonist. And apparently he tried to include Lake in the mix, who I will remind you was 17 in Season 2. So Huntessally was based less on an attempting to write about poly relationships and more on one guy’s fantasy of having a threeway. So I can kind of understand the writers wanting to take the three in a different direction.
The least likely to be poly is Jake, I think. Even besides his obvious jealousy issues, the fact that he was that focused on Tom during the two years between Seasons 1 and 3 suggests to me that no one else was able to catch his eye. And frankly he wouldn’t be wrong for wanting an exclusive relationship with Tom, the problem is when he gets mad that Tom and Ashley dare have friends besides him and gets possessive of them.
Everyone other contestant is on varying levels of “maybe”.
yes but i raise you, the way jake treated aiden this episode was so gay- [GETS SHOT] [GETS SHOT] [GETS SHOT]

Honestly Trevek is probably one of the easiest ships to make canon because the fact that they already knew each other before the show started and we don't actually know that much about them means you can just say they were always dating and you just didn't know about it.
Ideas for staff plot:
Instead of another love triangle, focus Instead on Krystal's favoritism of Derek and mistreatment of Trevor. Maybe Trevor builds up some resentment over this, especially since killing the animals was Derek's idea, so why is he the one being left off the hook now?
Derek wants the show back, so he ropes Trevor into various Pinky-and-the-Brain-style schemes to replace Krystal. We've already got a lot of drama, maybe we can have a somewhat comedic plot as a palate cleanser? Note: I feel with 2 and 3 you're better off just combining Derek and Emily because if Derek and Trevor are together you don't need an entirely new character for Trevor to talk to about how much he misses Derek. I mean a lot of what Emily says and does aren't really out of character for Derek (damn, Trevor, you really need to make friends with people who aren't jerks). Also maybe if Derek and Trevor aren't separated you can use the energy that went into Tremily to maybe make Trevek (as friendship or romance) not shit?
Just don't have a staff plot and spend that screen time on the contestants instead.
my favorite idea is the third one lol. like seriously why are we focusing on the staff of a contestant-driven show? not saying we should know nothing about them, but keep it ambiguous maybe? one of the many, many, many, many, MANY flaws that DCAS has is that it doesn’t leave room to interpret things. in DCS1 & S2 you could make a lot of hcs but now everything is directly served to you and it’s really annoying. trevek wouldve been perfectly fine as a fanon ship but they just had to make them canon for fanservice

What I was talking about was said in the Disventure Camp Episode Insider, videos talking about each episode (at least up until Episode 10) from a production standpoint made by Jared himself that they have up on Patreon.
Quote: "One of the plans for this scene was to show some kind of flashback while Ashley's story was being told but we couldn't do it due to budget limitations."
Cutting a flashback in one episode because of budget limitations and cutting a character's screentime in half because they thought she would be a boring finalist are not mutually exclusive. If they did include the flasback in that episode, it would not really alleviate the problem that Ashley as a character is there mostly to support Jake, and they could have decided to keep Ashley as the finalist and figure out an arc for her (though I'm not sure they would've been capable of figuring out an arc for her) without including the flashback.
According to the Disventure Camp Episode Insider for Episode 4, it was planned to show some kind of flashback for Ashley's story, but it was abandoned due to budget limitations.
definitely not budget limitations. their original plan was to make ashley the winner, and jared never said they went against this plan because of any budget restrictions. they just decided to throw her character away for jake and his drama.

Shout out to evil planet-eating comets/asteroids/rogue planets, there's like a handful of you I can name but each and every one of you is one of the most terrifying entities I've ever encountered in fiction.

Honestly, not only is whatever makes sports interesting to people not the same as what makes science fiction and fantasy interesting to people, it's not the same as what makes sports fiction interesting to people. The latter have, or at least try to have, a compelling plot and interesting characters, while in the former, some guys whose personalities don't matter try to beat some other guys whose personalities don't matter at being better with balls and the whole thing is pretty much the same from start to finish. It's almost like having a written narrative counts for a lot.
In case you couldn't tell, I'm not much of a sports person.
There was a writer at io9 who I lowkey viewed as my nemesis despite never interacting with him in any way because whenever I encountered an article with an absolutely dogshit shallow take on pop culture 9 tiems out of 10 it was written by him, and generally in mindless praise of Star Wars. I bring this up because before I quit reading the site he posted an article called "I don't get why geeks don't like sports" or something like that, and the thesis of the article was that geeks who love sci-fi and fantasy fiction should LOVE sports because they're basically the same thing - that everything one loves about sci-fi and fantasy fiction can be found in sports. To which I say:
No the fuck it can't
You, a man who is paid to write about geek shit for geeks to read about because your editors inexplicably believe you know why geeks like what they like, clearly lied on your resume
The argument went that sports have everything sci-fi and fantasy fans like, which it specified were, like, stakes, and drama, and people to root for and against, which is basically all it takes to make a sci-fi story, right? Like Jesus Christ it was so stupid, like, Jeff Bezos described how easy it is to make a great TV show stupid.
BUT! It did give me an idea. See, one of the big appeals to me about sci-fi and fantasy stories is the fantastical shit that shows up in them, like monsters, for example. Another big appeal is to see a how our current world can be reflected in the fantastical one - whether we see a better world, or one that's worse in a very dramatic way.
So, here is my suggestion for making sports just like fantasy and sci fi fiction: we add a new position to every single sport called The Minotaur. The Minotaur wears heavy body armor as well as a big, intimidating horned helm, and brandishes an axe with deadly efficiency. The Minotaur is a free agent, allowed to wander in and out of the stadium/ice rink/golf course/what have you as he pleases, but he must attempt to kill one player per game. The players are not allowed to take weapons into the game to defend themselves - only through sheer athleticism can they either evade or disarm the Minotaur, and in doing so save themselves.
If they did this, then finally they'd have everything I love in my sci-fi and fantasy movies in sports.

Athlete: So when I started playing, I didn't expect, one day, to be running from a dude with an axe. Like, I'm so scared.
Coach: I've lost so many players to the minotaur.
Minotaur: I can't believe this is legal.

Superman The Animated Series is so criminally underrated. BTAS deserves the praise it gets but I wish it didn't overshadow its sibling so much, there was great stuff in Clark's show.
