Made this for myself during the pandemic. At first I just pinned the snake skeleton to this framed canvas board to remind myself to repair the ribs eventually. Then I hung this jade Eye of Horas over the snake skeleton because I was thinking they would go good together in a sculpture. Seeing them together, I thought the snake would look cool with a jade eye to match the Eye of Horus. After I did that I realized this was becoming an actual art piece so I pinned the wood carved Mano Figa in the space between the eye and the snake tail. The symbology of all the pieces together told me to keep it and hang it over my kitchen table. The Mano Figa is not only a symbol of protection against the evil eye but it’s represents an incantation to the goddess for good times. The Eye of Horus is a symbol of protection,healing, and making one whole again. The snake symbolizes healing, renewal, and primal energy. Typhoon Rai (category 5) hit the Philippines in Cebu on December 16th. I was terrified as many of my families' homes were directly hit and I could not get in touch with my parents. A week later we received word that my parents were safe and their home is standing, however four of my cousins have lost their entire homes. Since many kind people on my social media have offered to send money to help, I knew I was going to create a campaign to raise money to rebuild, and to provide clean water, food, and clothes. I was hoping to directly hear from my parents in order to asses the damage surrounding them before creating this campaign, but they still have no way to communicate with us and I know my cousins need help right now and not later. Their children are using plastic bags to try to stay dry. I have been in touch with my Auntie Peggy Figueroa in Colorado who visits these cousins often and has a way of communicating and sending money directly to them. We have already sent them money to provide food for the last two weeks and for some of the lumber to start rebuilding. Based on the receipts of money already spent on lumber, food, and supplies we have estimated that $1,000 per family would be enough to finish rebuilding the homes, buy blankets, clothes, water and food. So that is a total of $4,000 for four families. The names of my cousins who have lost their homes are Grace Ferrer, Ranela Esgana, Delia Magale, and Maribel Magale. In the Go Fund Me updates I will post photos of things they have already spent money on to give you an idea of how much things cost there. I will also post screen captures of conversations between my Auntie Peggy and myself in regards to this. I am doing this to provide as much transparency as possible. I will stop the campaign when the goal is reached. Happy #internationaldragday !!! I usually don’t post my drag king stuff on this account but since it’s a special day I figured why not? So, back in April at @disasterina ‘s suggestion, I actually auditioned for @bouletbrothersdragula season 4 (as Sleazy Manzini of course). I got rejected but still had a blast creating the different looks and performances. This one is my glamour look and my favorite of all the looks I did (I actually created 6). I call this look the unholy swordsman and it’s inspired by the red armor from Bram Stoker’s Dracula. I even created an animatronic bejeweled beating heart for it! Been thinking a lot about my dear friend who passed away July 19, 2018. Long live the legend of @jonschnepp. Jon, thank you for sharing your talents, friendship, and your deep passion for art and life! We will continue to spread your magic! This is a sculptural portrait I created of him for the amazing memorial art show that Holly @bettydrapers_fatsuit (his widow) organized for him in 2018. Originally I just wanted to make something as if he was still alive and it would be his birthday gift. I knew he’d love a demon with a badass weapon. I didn’t plan for it to be a portrait, but as the pieces started coming together, surprisingly it started to look like him. Materials: skunk vertebrae for the hips, squirrel paws for the feet, lizard claws for hands, arms, ribs, and spine are bat bones, ermine jaw for mouth, I used a piece of lizard skin for the tongue, coyote vertebrae for the head, frog vertebrate for the forked part of the weapon and sting ray barb as the sword part of the weapon. In 2019, my dear friend Dr. Paul Koudinaris (@hexencult) gifted me this beautiful bejeweled dog skeleton. I decided the best place for it would be on top of an acrylic curio cabinet against my wall of clockwork. After I placed it there, one of the clock mechanisms started going crazy! I had to capture this experience on video. It felt like the spirit of this sacred creature was sending me a message about life, death and the passage of time using brass, bones, and jewels. I sat there in awe realizing that was the formula to almost all of my art. Thank you Paul. If you are not following his amazing account you should! He is a brilliant historian, author, & photographer. His books Heavenly Bodies, Empire of Death, and Memento Mori continue to provide me with endless inspiration. Aqua Atua is a single carousel seahorse music box that I created for a client. Aqua is a greenish-blue color, often thought of as the shade of water and the Latin root word for ocean. And Atua is a Polynesian word for a supreme being. Most of the gemstones, the black pearls, and the music box carousel were provided by the client due to their sentimental value. The seahorse is adorned with Cambodian blue zircons, aquamarine, rubies, cubic zirconias, and a quartz crystal. The base features a shell filled with black pearls and a gold gilded sand dollar adorned with opal.
