Since I left for my road trip around this time last year, I missed the foliage, which is my favorite part of living in New England.

After looking at some peak foliage maps and seeing some recent pictures in and around the White Mountains in New Hampshire, I decided to do a last minute trip to not only see the foliage, but to backcountry camp alone for the first time since January.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t the only one with this bright idea as I ran into a lot of traffic and crowds. But the USFS ranger at the visitor center I spoke with suggested Gordon Pond which was perfect! Remote, away from the crowds, I could camp right by the pond, and since my national park pass expires the end of the month I was able to use it one last time!

Felt so great to camp again and to hike through the beautiful colors! I’m definitely going to be making up for lost time and doing as many fall hikes in the next few weeks as I can to chase after the peak foliage!

Today we booked two of our planned adventures this year. In May we’ll be making our annual pilgrimage back to Cannon Beach, OR (top photo). Cannon Beach is my favorite spots on the Oregon coast and we always have a blast driving down and stopping in Astoria for coffee & snacks along the way. In July we’ll be making our first trip up to the North Cascades National Park to camp at Diablo Lake.
