I wonder if Mothwing had expected that Sasha, at some point, would come back for her after she left her in Riverclan. Maybe she even thought that Sasha would look for her after the territories changed… only to slowly lose hope, but still kept that idealized version of Sasha in her head throughout the rest of her life.
Maybe that’s why Hawkfrost found it so easy to manipulate Mothwing by questioning her worthiness. Because subconsciously, Mothwing believes that she wasn’t worth enough for her own mother to come looking for her.
