New Fic: Veil of the Wild
Hello! I'm back with a new Neve/Rook fic and of course its super long and super world building, but that's what I do and I'm not gonna have anxiety over it lol
Please check it out if you're so inclined and let me know what you think, I really really like this idea.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Veil of the Wild - Ivy | I
Pairing: Neve/Rook
Rated: E
Summary: At the edge of Hossberg’s endless wetlands, two strangers’ lives circle toward collision: Ivy, a Warden’s daughter driven by silent longing and Neve, a reclusive mage marked by secrets and scars.
As blight spreads and old gods stir, the land itself turns dangerous; yet wonder and connection can still take root in a realm this vast.
Bound by quiet hope and the promise of something neither has ever named, Ivy and Neve must cross wild borders, risking the safety of solitude for a chance at healing a world—and themselves—that both may be past saving.
Preview under the cut:
Marla always insisted real life was never like the serials and perhaps Kassidy was as close as anyone could come to a knight in shining armor. Broad-shouldered, reliable, a good Warden, and so kind; but she had spent too many evenings reading stories beneath her quilt.
Devouring tales where good and evil tangled together, where the villain was complex and alluring. They were dangerous, irresistible and impossible to trust but impossible to forget as well.
She didn’t want to be swept off her feet onto a white steed. What she wanted was something darker—
—a figure stealing her away into the night atop a blood-red drake, mysterious and half-wild. The sort of affair that would leave her breathless and aching for the next chapter.
It was a private longing and one she had never hinted at in the open. This handsome warden deserved honesty, but how did you explain that what you wanted most belonged on the last page of a seedy serial; not in the daylight of the market square?
A small smile was all Ivy could manage as she placed the half eaten plum in the wardens hand and gave a faint wave goodbye.

Neve x Rook Incorrect Quotes
Neve: Rook texted me, "Your adorable." So I sent back, "No. You're adorable."
Bellara: So?
Neve: Now we're dating. All I did was point out a typo, but I like them, so I'm not saying anything.

"You know like in the movies when the baby’s born and it’s not crying and everyone’s panicking, because this means something is very wrong but they’re also trying not to seem panicked because they don’t want to worry the mother and it’s like nervous silent eye contact, nervous silent eye contact, but then the baby starts wailing and everyone’s like relieved silent eye contact, relieved silent eye contact, thank the lord."

Fucking Rook.
She stood on the kitchen balcony and didn’t even try to stop the steady stream of quiet tears. This wasn’t supposed to happen, this shouldn’t have happened— but it did.
She let herself feel.
She let herself fall.
Now all she had to hold onto was the inevitable fact that her heart would be broken once again.
Not just hers, but Rook’s as well.
Maybe it was already broken and she never took the time to fix it. Maybe that’s why for every step she took toward Rook, she took two steps away.
She wanted. But for what?
Rook was always present and full of endless optimism. Always fighting for everyone and everything no matter the cost. Heart on her sleeve, patience, and unrelenting strength.
She wasn’t overbearing, but she was undeniable. Powerful in a way that left others room to breathe and exist. She was ruthless and uncompromising when needed, but kind and full of empathy as well.
She had the strength to do what Neve could not.
Feel.
She never pushed. She never demanded. She just showed up without fail. Every time. No matter how hard Neve pushed, she never walked away, she never left her alone to face anything.
Neve hated it…and she loved her for it.
She loved her and now she was completely wrecked and vulnerable.
It was foolish. She didn’t ask for it. It just happened. She fell in love with Rook just the way you fall asleep, slowly then all at once.
She lost her power. She lost her protection. Rook split her heart wide open and promised to take care of it.
Who does that? Why would she do that?
She had the audacity to stand in that room and talk about the future. How could they possibly have that? A future?
Neve wasn’t remarkable. She wasn’t special. She could even argue she was worth it. She couldn’t take what Rook had to offer. She wouldn’t. And yet, she stares into the red light of the fade, wanting and hurting for something she never should have let herself feel in the first place.
Without knowing it, Rook picked away the scabs and now Neve was the one bleeding. Old hurts and regrets spilling out and she was powerless to stop it.
She was terrified, so she did the only thing she knew how to do— retreat inside herself and stuff the feelings down. It was the only way to be safe. But that in itself was the problem. Rook made her feel safe. Rook made her feel something she didn’t think she would ever feel again. Rook made her feel everything and it was too much.
It was too much.
Rook couldn’t possibly promise her tomorrow. She was facing Gods. She was facing the impossible and even though none of them said it, the odds were stacked against them. It was an impossible situation with a definitive outcome.
Rook didn’t see it that way. Rook wanted to make plans for the future.
Neve can’t.
Instead, she put herself in a box and locked it up tight. It would only be a matter of time before she ran out of air.
Neve would be left alone once again sifting through the wreckage of what could have been. She would once again have to wait for her heart to scar over.
Rook was just too soft.
Neve didn’t know softness.
What she did know is she would once again lose her light and she wasn’t so sure she could bear it this time. Rook was the storm that tore away every wall she had built.
Fucking Rook.
Neve loved her, but she couldn’t do it.
It was better this way.
