So this blog has been inactive for a while, and it's probably going to stay that way, and I'm probably going to start unfollowing selfship people, and maybe delete the blog after a while.

The longer I've tried to interact this community, the more I've come to feel like I'm fundamentally different from everyone else in it. It doesn't really seem right to call myself a selfshipper anymore. Fictophile, maybe. I get attracted to characters in ways that rarely or never happen irl. It's just wired into my brain like an orientation. It's not to cope with not feeling loved or any other trauma. I don't want the characters to be real because that would ruin it. I don't want other people telling me what to imagine or how the characters feel about me. My s/is are more of a creative exercise and a conduit for expressing my affection than a vessel for receiving it.

I think the things that drew me here were:

f/o takeovers, because I liked being allowed to act like my favorite characters. The prompts being about the selfships was less important.

The normalization of ocs, especially with self insert traits and in ships with canon characters. I have gotten more comfortable with them because of the selfship community, so that's cool. I don't think I have anything more to gain at this point though.

imagine taking care of your sick child F/O when they have a mild cold

they wake up and you can just see it in their face, they look so much more tired then normal and there's sweat sticking to their hair and cheeks. maybe they tell you that they didn't sleep well and don't feel good, maybe they try to play it off

either way, you keep them home and cozy then up on the couch where you can fetch them what they need and they watch some television why they rest under some blankets to wait out their little fever

you make them some soup and comfort them as they toss and turn, and tell them there's never to be embarrassed about if they end up need a trashcan to get sick in

you tell them you love them once they feel well enough to return to their room, and remind them to not be scared to ask for anything

once they're feeling better, they find a way to thank you in their own way. maybe they just tell you, maybe they do some extra chores, maybe they make or buy gift. either way, they're thankful that you're always there for them, and they love you so much

Is it selfshipping if you started from a place of "How would someone with my disability interact with these elements of the setting" and this sent you down a train of thought that inadvertantly led to this OC who deliberately resembles you in certain ways having a really shippable dynamic with a canon character that you want to explore? But it feels more like canon/canon shipping than selfshipping because you didn't think about this character much before now and noticed chemistry like an onlooker rather than deliberately creating it?

I think I might actually be feeling some "I wish he was real" feelings for once about Diggers. Maybe because he feels more like he could be a real person in my real world than the other f/os do. He has magic powers, but I don't feel like he'd be a very different person without them, and even though he's from the 60s, his anti capitalist pro art feelings still feel very applicable to the modern day. And there are still people who regularly dress hippyish, including myself.

Does anybody have a “book boyfriend/girlfriend”? Like a f/o from a novel as opposed to a more visual media (movie, animanga, video game)?
