I used to think violence was never the answer. Until one day it was─ and the guilt I expected never came

Send one for my muse’s reaction to yours…♡ = complimenting themFor at @isaackrane
Axel eyed the younger boy warily as they trudged through the forest, debating if the compliment that had just passed his lips had been coated with sarcasm or completely serious. He could see it either way coming from Isaac; a vast majority of the words Isaac spoke to Axel were sarcastic, but these felt somehow more...real. Either way though...
He reached out a hand and smacked the boy on the shoulder lightly, rolling his eyes. “Shut up, mate, don’t get all sentimental or whatever. We’ll be in and out, don’t get all mushy.”

Send one for my muse’s reaction to yours…❃ = dancing with themFor @lori-taylor
Isaac and Axel had found a lovely hull of liquor at one of the shops in the depths of the Red Zone that afternoon and given the risk he’d taken to get it, Axel was surely going to make the most of it. Which meant swallowing down copious amounts of stale liquor, because it meant he could feel the burn down his throat and the warmth in the pit of his stomach - and at least he could feel something. Something more than he’d been feeling over the last several months at least.
A few others had lit the fire in the city center and Axel had found a cozy spot by the fire, a blanket wrapped around his shoulders and a liquor bottle held by the neck in one hand, staring into the dancing orange flames. When Lori approached with a beat in her step a slow smile came across Axel’s expression, dropping the blanket and clumsily getting to his feet to join her. “Look who’s got the moves, sweetheart,” Axel chuckled, dancing alongside her and the fire.

Send one for my muse’s reaction to yours…☮ = waking them up after a nightmareFor @di--white
Xavier stands in the middle of the city with a brunette held beneath his hand, a knife pressed to her throat. Blood dribbles from the point of contact, threatening the life below the blade, as he boasts about his integration into the city and requests it be handed over. But Axel doesn’t hear the words or doesn’t register them beyond the static that fizzles louder and LOUDER over the pounding beating of his heart, drowning out all other noise from his eardrums. Then the blade is slicing across her throat and his vision spatters with red ---
“Axel - Axel, wake up -” A hand shakes his shoulder and he wakes with a start, nearly jolting off the couch in Diana’s apartment. She catches him with hands on either shoulder, holding him firmly and speaking soothing words that are falling almost on nearly deaf ears. You’re fine - you’re safe, Axel calm down-
“I’m fine,” he says breathlessly, shaking off her concern and passing a hand across his sweaty face, brushing damp strands of hair away from his skin. When she doesn’t pull away he shifts, swatting away her hands, “Di - please, I’m fine,” he tells her unconvincingly, getting to his feet and moving away from her to try and catch his breath.

Axel had immersed himself into repairing one of the cities dwindling supply of automobiles, head tucked beneath the propped up hood and leaning way over, hands working deep within the body of the beast. Blindly he grabbed for a tool he knew was positioned on the edge of the desk nearby and finished off tightening the piece when a sound nearby startled him and he jumped, slamming his head against the open hood and whirling on the intruder with the wrench held like a weapon.
“Shit, Princess, scared me half to death,” he scowled, lowering the wrench while his free hand went to rub the back of his, now aching, skull. She didn’t say anything though, instead just gliding forward and wrapping her arms around his middle. It caught him a bit off guard but it was comforting all the same, which was certainly her angle with this. After a few awkward seconds he wrapped his arms around her as well, heaving a sigh as a simple smile touched his lips. “I’m fine, Charlotte. Really,” he said - though he didn’t make any move to let her go.

He’d taken up post on the rooftop of the abandoned building, lying flat on his stomach across the slats with the rifle tucked against his shoulder, finger resting lazily against the trigger. They’d spotted the infected off a ways away and had been hoping to get in and out without being detected. But as they collected their loot and made to head back towards the city they realized they couldn’t leave such a large herd lurking so near to the city boarders. They were still repairing the gates from the last attack, they couldn’t risk another mob getting beyond their boarders. So Axel had taken post on the roof to pick them off one by one as Isaac set the charges below.
The plan they’d concocted had been to attract the mob with gunfire and noise and once they collected around the building and Axel and Isaac bounded off to a safe distance, blow them up to high hell. So as Axel laid down the gunfire the walkers started turning in their general direction, shuffling in their awkward way as the clickers broke from pack and ‘ran’ (if you could call it that) towards them.
“Ten o’clock, mate!” Axel shouted to the runner below as the clickers closed in on them and a moment later gunfire joined his own and more bodies fell to their cover fire. Isaac slipped away as Axel watched his back, taking out any of the infected that kept on his trail, before he followed along with the other from the rooftops. “Clear!” the voice called from below, and a fraction of a second the shock wave of the explosion behind met their backs. It blew Axel a few feet forward, boots sliding across the shingles of the roof and over the edge. He caught a hand on the gutter of the next building, slowing his momentum with the soles of his boots across the brick exterior before slamming to the pavement, rolling out the last of his speed and ungracefully getting back to his feet.
“Dude - you alright?” Isaac called as he caught up to him, throwing an arm around his shoulders in a brief hug before taking off further down the alley with Axel in tow. Axel just chuckled and ran alongside his partner, nodding, “‘Course mate, let’s do it again!”

Navigating around the small house that he now considered a home seemed quite a bit more difficult now that his senses were somewhat dulled and impaired - not that it mattered. His shift was over, he had plenty of time now to collapse wherever he wanted and sleep it all off in blissful, drunken peace.
Usually when Axel returned from his shifts, particularly those that ended in the early morning, he was quiet when he entered the building and would collapse on any soft appearing surface he could find first. Sometimes he made it to his bedroom, other times it ended up being the couch or chair, curled up beneath a blanket without too much more forethought on the matter. That being said, today wasn’t one of those mornings.
A smile pressed onto his lips as Ava indicated the book in her lap, pursing his lips as he studied the title. “I think I brought that one for you,” he said with a gesture in the direction of it before happily stepping over to take the offered seat on the now cleared ottoman before her. “It certainly looked like an interestin’ read, though maybe not exactly your type, yeah.”
After a moment he simply lay back against the cushioned footrest, folding his hands over his stomach and staring up at the ceiling. “Well I was at the wall, and then I may have dipped into my stash of liquor...I’d share,” he pointed a finger in her direction, “You’d be my top choice for drinkin’ buddies...but I drank it all myself.”
From elsewhere in the house, Dahlia heard muffled sounds. The room they had dubbed as her library was a bit secluded, far off from the beginnings of the home, but the blonde’s ears tuned in to a subtle thud as something hit one of the walls. Her brows furrowed.
They were often ships in the night, she and Axel. Her tasks were set during the day and his duties had him setting off to the wall late at night, usually before or just as Dahlia was returning from checking the clinic’s inventory or late council meetings. Had it not been for the set schedule, Dahlia would never know when Axel returned from his shift. It seemed that he was always courteous, quiet, something Dahlia appreciated.
It was because of that, though, that the blonde was a bit confused, perched upon her chair, a look to match etched into tired features. This was not Axel’s usual entry into their shared home.
Dahlia echoed the snicker, her eyes flashing down to the book on her lap. She was a creature of habit, for sure, and, in the time she and Axel had been roommates, Dahlia was sure he had picked up on them. Their first interaction, in fact, had been in Fall City’s expansive library - mostly where Dahlia had “borrowed” all of her books from - and, from then on the two had developed quite the pleasant rapport, “Yes, of course, I am,” she offered her friend a smile as she set her book on the armrest before clearing the ottoman and gesturing for Axel to join her, “What else would I be doing?”
“It’s Stephen King - ‘Cujo’. It’s not usually my normal read, but it’s better than the movie and I waned something different,” she shrugged, “Where have you been?”
