There’s also the added idea of what happened to ruddiger while he was in prison. Was he forced to not be there, or even worse was he taken away as a punishment for Varian? If that’s the case it probably makes Varian even more worried if ruddiger goes missing in vat7k and it gives a chance to show what happened to Varian in prison through flashbacks and/or explanations to the others as to why he’s so distraught over him being gone/missing

we’re all agreed that ruddiger is varian’s unofficial emotional support animal, right?

i find it so sad in “be very afraid”, when he was struggling to come to terms with the fact that ruddiger was frozen in an awfully familiar way. and how he carried him around afterward— ugh. it gets to me. very glad ruddiger was safe & sound.

…but of course that makes me consider how much worse off varian would feel when ruddiger wasn’t around and he was alone with the separatists. we don’t know what happened for him to be gone— though i headcanon that andrew made varian feel guilty for “owning” a wild animal— but varian would feel so much more alone without him. i wish we could have seen why ruddiger left, and their reunion. (“day of the animals” could have been a flashback episode about the saporian takeover.)

i don’t think varian even knows the extent of the positive effects ruddiger has on him. varian’s been through a whole lot, and he shoves as much of it down as he can, the better to focus on More Productive Things. he probably only thinks of ruddiger as his lil buddy whose chin he likes to scratch.

if vat7k was real, i would adore an episode where ruddiger gets lost/they move on without noticing he’s gone running off, and varian starts to come apart at the seams until he gets him back. that’d be both an “aww that boy realizes how much he loves his raccoon” moment and an “ohh that boy realizes how mentally unhealthy he still is” moment.

Ok I think I can answer a few of these

I unfortunately don’t know much about nurus character but I would say she’s like a younger sister who reluctantly goes with the others and learns to love them anyways. She cares for her kingdom and things like stargazing. She is strong willed but also worried that she won’t be able to help her kingdom with the problems facing it. I would suggest looking towards blogs who talk about these characters in detail, like bad-holmes-impression

as for official reading, I would say Varians Tangled Trials by IFoundYouJustInTime on ao3 is the most popular telling of the story for fans. I would also personally recommend And They Were Roommates (Oh My God They Were Roommates) by DreadPirateUrania13 it’s a really fun au of the characters if they were in the Ever After High universe and explored the characters well in a new setting, but I would read the Varians Tangled Trials first to learn the full story. (I also have to take a moment to tell you to look into the lovers oath au by @dasketcherz after learning more about vat7k because it is my personal favorite and it’s so fun interacting with other fans of it)

Finally, it’s kind of debated on if Don is Hugo’s mom or not. She’s not his biological mother, however she did take him in at a young age as someone to help her with her work (she’s a type of mob boss) however, many people (including myself) believe that she eventually became more loving towards him and was his mother figure because of how she raised him.

I hope this was helpful! I’m also relatively new to vat7k (I’ve been a fan for about three months) but I’ve learned a lot in that time and am so glad to be sharing it with other people!!

i’ve been a fan of tangled the series since i was 15, but i’m just now getting into vat7k, so i have some questions for any fans willing to answer them!

i’ve read the little character bios the creators of the au made, but nuru’s doesn’t say much about her personality — just her motivations, that she’s the diplomat/navigator of the group, and that she doesn’t trust hugo. if anyone has nuru as their favorite character, absolutely feel free to rant about her, because i’d love to know more!

are there any vat7k fanfics that the fandom has deemed “official/required” reading, or that are just really popular? not everybody has to like the popular interpretations of the story, etc etc, i know, but i’d like to have them on my radar if they exist.

similarly, are there any characters/dynamics/plot points that appear in a lot of fan works but aren’t technically “canon”?

i’ve heard there are fan songs for vat7k — does anyone have a list of links or youtube playlist for them?

is donella hugo's mom or no?? i am confused

I crave sleep, I crave slumber like a dying man craves the life he took for granted. I long for sleep like one longs for an old lover. Distant, yearning, and oddly sad. I wish for sleep with the tensity of a child wishing on a star for a trouble they are too young for to be fixed.

Yeah as someone who was in fandom space before I realized I was trans I saw a lot of people talking about how they wished they were guys like in fics they read then realized they were trans. Always try to trust your gut with these things, because it’s usually your heart telling you how you really feel❤️‍🩹
