sorry this might just be me, but whenever someone says that trans men are inherently “better” to date than cis men because they’re “more emotionally intelligent, soft, and sensitive”, all that sounds like to me is reducing them to how they were ‘raised or socialized’ as girls/women. but i don’t really know if that’s accurate so…

As a queer teenager in the 90s I never heard it explained like that and I think it would have really changed things if I had.
In ~these times~ it is important for queer people to be reminded of what "coming out" originally meant. "Coming out" did not mean telling all of your co-workers something super stigmatized and vulnerable about you, wearing your queer status on your sleeve in public, informing the police or government institutions about your sexuality, or even telling your parents. "Coming out" meant venturing out into the queer community; being among other queers as a queer yourself.
Coming out isn't about telling the entire world when doing so is not safe for you, it's not about arming your enemies with information they could use against you. No, coming out is about making a fulfilling queer life possible for yourself through participation in the queer community. It is about escaping the restrictions and dangers of the cisgender heterosexual world by rooting oneself more deeply into the queer one.
And you can always do that. No matter how oppressed we are. No matter how much the culture shifts and policies are enacted to terrorize us. We are always able to be ourselves when we are amongst each other. And living our queerness has always been a collective social project, not just a matter of personal exposure.

Religous queer culture is meeting a 52 year old trans guy at synagouge and having to hug him because it reminds you that despite everything and everyone you can and will be happy
that’s awesome!!
and hell yeah. No matter what, we persevere like we always have as queer people and as Jewish people

The fact that straight people have normalized being miserable and dissatisfied with their lives and relationships and secretly hating their romantic/sexual partners sorta makes it more difficult to realize you're queer
Like "am I miserable because I'm queer or is it normal to hate your boy/girlfriend?.... Well, all the straight people I know keep saying they hate their boy/girlfriends too so it must be normal".
And it also makes the people in straight relationships that *are* happy and chill look and feel weird as hell

I made a collage inspired in I saw the tv glow (2024)
Tumblr media
For context, in Spanish, we refer to feminine subjects by adding an "a" to the end of the word (linda, rápida, bella) and for male subjects, we do the same but with an "o" (lindo, rápido, bello) I wanted to explore the pain of living every day as a trans person, being misgendered constantly and having to navigate that experience.

if you didn’t “always know” you were queer you’re still queer
if you didn’t ship your barbie’s/people on tv to be queer you’re still queer
if you didn’t even know queer people existed for years or decades you’re still queer
you’re a valid queer person no matter your experience with your personal identity

Do I need to be the one to tell you that those Nazi laws continued well into the definitely not fascist West German government(and technically East German, but from 1964 onwards they just didn’t enforce that law until they repealed it all in 1988) up until 1994 when it was deemed unconstitutional by the Cologne constitutional court
Also just because the labels for certain things didn’t exist at the time doesn’t mean those minorities weren’t included in Nazi atrocities against all queer people
