Book Review: Sula by Toni Morrison
Book Review: Sula by Toni Morrison
Due to the complete lack and ignorance of black history being taught in high schools in America, Morrison’s work focuses especially on the very history that many of the privileged groups try to forget or erase from memory. As mentioned before, Morrison feels the need to not only highlight but humanize and bring forth the struggles faced by the African American community because it is an…

Saying Goodbye to a Legend - Kobe Bryant
Saying Goodbye to a Legend – Kobe Bryant
Ever since my hands touched a basketball at the age of fifteen, and I made my first shot and fell in love with the game, I just knew I had to keep playing it to keep me alive. Basketball is magic. It’s love. It’s life. It made me feel alive, it made me feel worthy. The strength, might and power I felt every time I made a three pointer can’t compare to anything I had felt at that tender age.
Growin…

Feeling extra proud of being a woman today. We are fierce and a force to be reckoned with. Thank you to every woman who has ever inspired me. Not my 9th grade Environment Management teacher who told a class full of 14 year old girls that we had to take extra care of our reputation because, in her words, a woman's reputation was like a glass, once broken could never be entirely fixed. Yet another person comparing young women to objects and telling them their worth is valued by others opinions of them. She should be ashamed of herself. And so should every single person who has ever told a girl she couldn't do something cause she was a girl. Shame. On. You. And to 14 year old Ayesha: stop crying. It will never matter what anyone thinks of you but rather what you think of yourself. Hold your head up high. You are strong, intelligent, kind, sensitive, empathetic; qualities some grown adults don't have the capabilities of possessing. Be proud of yourself and your mind and how wise you are beyond your years. *hint: last part's directed at every woman #iwd #iwd2019 #women #internationalwomensday #pink #fierce #quote #blogpost #awomansplace #kind #intelligent #smart #proud #environmentalmanagement #lol https://www.instagram.com/aishahzad16/p/BuwvZZoAcqR/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=6vphza6qsko6

Nationalism is a scam. We are all one people. The army isn't something to be proud of. The greatest politicians would not allow their children to serve in the army. Watch a Michael Moore documentary. My ideas aren't all that revolutionary. War can only hurt innocents. These big men sitting in their big offices just sit and watch as we kill each other for their delight. Don't fall for it. Rise above. We are one people. The human race period. #pakistan #india #war https://www.instagram.com/aishahzad16/p/BujYMPDAbZM/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1tuj37r35cos8

Need to connect to my roots more. Self identity is a weird thing. I have days where I'm so sure of myself. And other days where I crave Pakistan so I can claim it as my own. So I can firmly and proudly say I am Pakistani. So I feel like I belong somewhere. I'm going through one of those phases right now. https://www.instagram.com/aishahzad16/p/BuRHbsxgLso/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1b8athudy93nc

One of the first books I ever read by Toni Morrison was Song of Solomon. I had to read it for my Great Authors class. Till this day I am so very grateful I took that class and got the opportunity to study such a great author. Her work transformed my life. Shoutout to Professor Ian for picking Morrison for the course! - link in bio for full review🤗 https://www.instagram.com/aishahzad16/p/Bt_b7lfgumK/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1m2irgifqoyq9

The Importance of Me
As human beings, there are certain traits that are common among us all, like our unconditional love for our family members, or the traditions that we pass down from generation to generation, and our inherent need to be around a familiar community amongst several other things. Those are all things that the first African slaves were stripped of. From taking away their names,…

Reflections on 2018
What a year 2018 was.

It's been a while but I have learned so many lessons in the past year that I had to write this down. A lot of great things happened this year and a lot of shitty things happened this year too. From getting my first pet (something I DEFINITELY should've done ages ago) to getting my first (kinda) job, this was a year of growth. The last couple of days and weeks have been heartbreaking. One of the most important and tough lessons this year taught me was that it didn't matter how close you thought someone was to you or how long you'd known them, it won't stop them from breaking your heart. Sometimes you have to cut off ties because the relationship just isn't that important to the other person and it's not worth going through the pain of being disappointed over and over again. I'd rather have nothing than heartbreak and empty apologies for the hurt caused. I don't know why that was so hard for me to accept. I was in denial because of the time spent I guess and the memories. Needless to say, If you lost touch with me this year; I'm sorry for your loss. - Link for the rest is in my bio (at Fairmont Ajman فيرمونت عجمان) https://www.instagram.com/p/BsNnrOhgB1E/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=8lbblwcfgbx1
