"you win a team, you lose as a team ... you can't just point a finger at one guy, so. yeah, I felt bad for him. everybody was jumping on him ... if I was around I would have slapped the shit out of you."

Not sure if I’ve said this on here yet but
I truly think Mitch was ready to extend but when the playoffs hit and the hate started getting bad and they released his address and threatened his newborn it was no longer a “where do I want to play hockey” but a “where is my family going to be safe”.

i don’t even know where to start. if there’s one player who embodies the maple leafs, it’s mitch marner. i never imagined him playing anywhere else. he often said that the team took a chance on a home-town kid, but no one represented our jersey like he did. i’ve cherished every moment watching mitch since he was drafted, and it’s going to be tough seeing him in another uniform.
after all the years of memories, i hope he goes to a team that loves and supports him unconditionally. through the ups and downs, he kept his head up even when the media scrutinized him. it’s bittersweet, but i wish him the best wherever he lands he’ll always be a leaf to me. i hope the team that picks him up sees his worth and understands just how much he has meant to us. 💙
