“A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night may be my film of the year (it’s a close contest with Locke). But it’s not enough to say it’s superior to bogus conflations like Interstellar and Gone Girl, or the contrived, studious do-goodism of Masterpiece Theatre pictures such as The Theory of Everything and The Imitation Game. Those comparisons only flatter the mainstream pictures, and dull the dirty radiance of this first feature film, written and directed by Ana Lily Amirpour. It’s not even that she has tossed off a casual masterpiece fit to live beside the best work of her evident forebear, David Lynch. No, A Girl is to be judged on a higher plane still, one that includes the visions of Jean Vigo, Jean Cocteau, and Luis Buñuel. This is a dream on your screen, absurd, languid (if not slow), and possessed by the calm of an inevitable beauty. This is what cinema was invented for, a rapture in the school of the surreal, indifferent to the time-wasting fallacy that movies have, or should have, anything to do with realism.“ - David Thomson [x]

Was it a good year is it all worth it? I'm currently in the process of choosing the school I want to go to and I'm starting to doubt if I want to go to university at all. I think this is my quarter life crisis.
Hey friend,
Overall, yes, it was an amazing year and probably the most stressful I’ve experienced. Plus, studying and living in New York City is a life changing experience.
“Is it all worth it”? Well, I’m not sure if my program is worth $60,000USD a year. In addition, that’s contingent on several factors, including your own personal goals, but yes, it’s definitley worth it for me. Aside from the personal and professional relationships you gain, you’re truly immeresed in filmmaking as a vocation. I don’t think there ever was a day where I was not doing anything pertinent to my own film or other people’s projects. And, of course, that’ll be at the expense of your social life.
I understand film school/university is not everyone. Personally, I love academia and learning. I need to keep my mental faculties engaged, learn from professors/peers, and avoid waking up from dreamless nights. What schools are you considering & what doubts are you having?
Also, it’s probably better than working a 9 to 5 office job. Hell, I’ll rob a fucking bank before I do that again haha. So don’t worry, I’m pushing 30 and I’m in a perpetual quarter life crisis.
I just realized my longwinded, incoherrent response is a natural deterrent for people who hate reading, so sorry about that. But I hope it was helpful. If you have other inquiries or just want to shoot the shit, feel free to contact.

Lisa and Louise Burns, who played the Grady Twins in The Shining, pose in their costumes outside the film’s Wardrobe Department.
Lisa and Louise hated the dresses, much preferring to run around Elstree Studios in jeans and t-shirts.

How's college going?
Hey sorry for late response, I haven’t been on this thing in ages. Just finished my first year at film school. It went well. Lovely. Trying to assimilate back to the real world.

‘Nymphomaniac Vol. I’: Director’s Cut, Lars von Trier (2014) Chapter 1. The Compleat Angler Perhaps the only difference between me and other people was that I’ve always demanded more from the sunset; more spectacular colors when the sun hit the horizon. That’s perhaps my only sin.

Have you heard the devastating news?
I’m sorry, it’s still too soon for me to talk about it. I need to be alone for a bit... : (

How excited are you for the new season of Twin Peaks?
I've essentially postponed any plans to commit suicide until after the new season.
