she waved away the other woman’s apologies. “don’t even worry about it! i’m always here to talk! even if it’s about sad stuff. that’s what friends are for, right? the good and the bad. and i’d consider us friends even if we just met and even if you won’t be here that long. that’s like.. kinda what batuu is all about. and if you’re here you gotta deal with us makin’ you part of the family if ya like it or not!” she was only partially joking.
Astryd chuckled. “Oh, I... wouldn’t really know anything about that. What friends are for I mean. I suppose my wife was my friend, but really she was the only one I had.” Stars, was her life really that depressing? “But I would be interested in learning if that is something one could learn I suppose.” She said trying to not sound completely insane, even though she definitely felt like it.
Astryd had barely been on a planet a whole entire week and she was already thinking of ways to get out of here. The storm trooper presence was too high and she felt like she was going to burst from her skin constantly. What the hell had she been thinking?
As she was walking around town square, she constantly felt like a squad of troopers was following her. They likely weren't, and she tried to rationalize that as much as she possibly could, but stars above was it freaky. So she did what she considered the most logical thing, she ducked in the closest shop.
When she was greeted with a odd amounts of stuff and knick knacks. She let a sigh of relief and looks around to humor being in here.

petra gave a wistful sigh. “i know…” she said, nodding along. sure, she didn’t experience something specific that astryd did, but she had met enough star crossed lovers on batuu. and hearing their stories always made her heart break a little bit. especially the ones who came back to life and just seemed so lost. it wasn’t fair when there were forces keeping people that were meant to be together apart.
Astryd hadn’t meant to be so dower, but thinking about Myrinne and Alexei did that to her. She only really allowed herself to when she was alone because her thoughts tended to go to a darker place than she publicly would allow herself. After all, it wasn’t just Myrinne who had to keep a public face. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean for this to get so depressing. I find it tends to happen one occasion.” She said.

he smiled, nodding down at her. “exactly.” they deserved that much at least. then they would figure things out and deal with repercussions. "i’m hungry. let’s get something to eat, yeah?”
“Of course, yeah,” she said with a smile, holding his hand and squeezing it once. She was so happy to have him back. They were still missing a piece, but together again, they were almost complete again. “I think there’s a couple of places to get food, depends on what you want.” She said.
alexei was trying his best to keep his head down since arriving on batuu. no one really knew that he had slipped away and the last thing he needed was to get distracted from his only goal - to find astryd. he hoped she was still on the planet, that he wasn’t too late. he was always a fairly optimistic person, but he was trying to be realistic too. he didn’t want to get his hopes up too much. but he also paid close attention to his intuition, which very rarely steered him wrong, and he really felt like this was the right place.
after a few hours of walking around without any luck, he was starting to get discouraged. he found a bench and sat down, taking a few moments to regroup. his gaze traveled over the many faces that passed by until one stuck out to him - the one that he had been searching for.
and without even thinking about how scary it would be for her to be tackled into a hug unsuspectingly, he took off in a run towards her. and once he finally reached her, he wrapped his arms around her, not wanting to lose her again. “you’re here! i found you. i found you -” he rushed out, unable to form a fully sentence yet. // @astryd-vosslyn

she let out a little sigh of relief. not that it was good that they were seperated but at least he wasn’t dead. and not that petra actually knew the situation at hand, but she wanted to provide her support. he reached out and gave her hand a tiny squeeze. “it’ll happen. it has to!”
“Thank you, I can only hope,” she said softly. “I miss them both dearly, as you can imagine.” She said with a chuckle. “They mean the world to me, I just wish that we were in a world not wrapped up with politics of the universe where love cannot be fully appreciated without someone else having a say on it.” She added.

petra swore her heart broke into a million little pieces. her smile quickly fell into a frown and she quickly shook her head. “oh - oh! oh i am so sorry. i shouldn’t have assumed. i’m so sorry..”
“No, no, nothing like that,” she said with a small smile, trying to assure the poor woman. “He’s not dead, we’re just... apart due to forces beyond our control. Him and my wife. Stars, if my wife could come to her senses,” she said, trying to not frown. She still held onto the belief, foolish as it was, that Myrrine was still in some capacity against her imprisonment. But without actual proof, it was just that, a belief.

he laughed, because that was very true. they were not exactly ‘normal people’, they never had been. “well...” he said, a playful smile pulling at the corner of his lips. “no guards here. so it looks like we just get to be normal people for now. how fun!”
her words made his stomach sink. of course alexei expected such an answer but part of him was foolishly hoping to hear that things weren’t so bad, only on the basis that he didn’t want astryd to be dealing with such bad things. but he knew the reality of that. “it’s nice here,” he noted, glad that she had found some sort of peace on this planet.
“It’s better now that I have you, even if just for a little bit dear heart,” she said, pulling him into a hug again. “We can pretend to be normal people for a while. Before the band plays our last song yeah?” She added looking up at him. Let them have this, if she could get anything out of this nightmare year, let it be one day, a week if she was lucky, with him.

he raised his shoulders in a slight shrug. “we do what normal people do.. hang out? catch up?” he was only teasing though, knowing fully how abnormal their situation was. but hopefully it wouldn’t be the case for much longer.
at her question he nodded. “i’ve been.. good. worried. about you, about her. just worried.” alexei had a chronic case of feeling like he should have done more, and so this situation was definitely one that didn’t sit right with him. “but overall i’ve been okay. how have you been?”
Astryd laughed. “Yes, normal people tend to hang out, get drinks, go on regular dates without half the guard following from twenty meters back.” She said. When he was courting Myrinne the only reason Astryd was allowed to stick around was because Myrinne insisted. The guard presence had always been ridiculous, but she tolerated it because she had to.
When he asked her how she was she shook her head. “Oh you know, about as well as one can be when running from planet to planet, constantly looking over one’s shoulder for guards, troops, or worse bounty hunters.” Astryd said with a sigh. “All and all, I’m exhausted, but this planet has brought me a little bit of peace for now.”

“definitely! although i can see why some people resent smaller planets, wanting to go out and see more of the universe and things. i’m not sure that’s exactly for me, but i understand the appeal.” she could see arguments for both sides, really.
she grinned as astryd examined the painting. “it’s a fun one, right?” she was glad that someone had taken a liking to it, it hadn’t been picked up since she brought it back to the shop. “you can have it, if you want. no one has ever really given it any attention so i think it’ll be nice to go home with someone who appreciates it!”
Astryd turned to Petra and chuckled. “Oh I don’t know, he’s not here, and I'm afraid that having it might just...” she sighed. Even after a year on the run, she still wasn’t used to not having them immediately around. “I’d miss him too much if I had it.” She subconsciously went to mess her rings only to remember they weren’t there. Right.
“Thank you for the offer though,” she said.

petra smiled and shook her head, waving off her apologies. “nah- don’t worry about it! you’re honestly right. it was really weird. i’ve lived here my whole life and that’s what i love about batuu, how quaint it is. but that’s what’s kind of interesting! even with everything else going on, it still has kept that charm.”
Astryd smiled. “That’s good to hear, it’s good to love where one lives.” She said as she looked around the shop again, before finding a small, odd painting of a womprat. “Oh my god... Lexei would love this,” she muttered, investigating it a little closer.

he grinned. “oh believe me… i know.” there was nothing but fondness in his tone. “i wouldn’t expect anything else.” but he did feel bad about her worry - it wasn’t unjustified. alexei was just truly hoping for the best, and it could come to hurt him in the end. but at least he could say he tried, right?
Astryd nodded, but sighed. “What do we do while she figures out how to sherk here duties and come flying here in a small rage to tear you a new one?” She asked. It was strange to have him back after all this time, “how are you?” she asked.

she nodded. “it’s strange how so quickly our lives went from really peaceful and hardly anyone new visiting to the force order, the resistance and all these new people showing up. it’s been hard to adjust to but it’s not all bad. it’s nice having new people around.” she smiled over at her. “well i hope that it stays that way. all bad stuff in the past.”
Astryd nodded. “I can imagine, most have been afraid of traveling anywhere near the core lest they end up like Hosnian Prime, but we’ve been able to keep a steady stream of outsiders visiting, I imagine it’s a bit of a culture shock out here so to speak.” She said before wincing a little at the tone. “Sorry, I didn’t mean that to come off as... pompous as it possibly did.” She said.

he laughed. “okay, right. good point. well just.. don’t think about it right now.” he was glad that they were at a place where they could laugh, even just for a little bit. he tilted her chin up to look at him and pressed a kiss to her forehead. “you have no idea how much i’ve missed you.” things were just so off without all three of them together.
Astryd closed her eyes as he kissed her forehead. Soft, it was soft. And she needed it, after a year of running across the galaxy to get away from this softness. Not just this, but the baggage that the crown and the ring around both of their fingers. “She’s still going to tear you a new one when she figures out how to get away and get to you.” She said. “Myr’s gonna be furious, I should know.”

she frowned. “i’m sorry. that sounds .. stressful. i hope you find something more temporary soon. or um - or not! if you like not settling down, that’s cool too, of course!” did she ever stop talking? not really.
she rolled her eyes. “i know.. the worst. and this is way better than how it used to be so imagine that.” but it just proved that nowhere was safe from the first order, not even the smaller planets that seemed to pose no threat at all.
Astryd chuckled. “Oh that sounds truly dreadful. My former planet has been occupied long before I was born by an ideology that no longer exists.” She said, “there were droids not men, and there were people who fought to survive. Thus allowing for us to be here.” She said. Onderon had been held in various states of Empire and Separatists for longer than Astryd had been alive. Thankfully, the First Order hadn’t found a use for the planet yet. Thus, Astryd and Myrinne had learned in relative peacetime.
