In the midst of my SwSh revival

anyone ever think about how if Leon is supposed to be King Arthur (and he is, right down to the sword and shield on his chest and his stupid crown-themed hat and the fact that he took on the role of Galar's champion and role model and protector from the time he was 10 years old and held onto it for another 10 years straight) then that makes Rose his Merlin.

Rose spotted his talent and cultivated it into what it is today, made him into that kingly figure. Rose, who made his way from poverty and literally working in the mines into one of the most famous figures in Galar, almost like it was magic. Rose, who holes himself away at the top of a tower surrounded by flowers and ruins everything by summoning a dragon for Leon to slay (it doesn't work). and then he takes himself out of the equation forever and leaves Leon to pick up the pieces after nearly destroying the entire region.

I wish I had more of a grip on Leon’s character, because I think I struggle with him the most out of anyone in Swsh. Like. The whole concept of him apparently rarely ever going home to Postwick and yet Sonia says he practically raised Hop single handedly is just. So conflicting to me. Like I guess you could interpret it as Leon having raised Hop until he became champion, and then became more absent after that? Like that’s the most logical way of interpreting it all but it just leaves so many questions for me that the game doesn’t even begin to answer. It just feels like there’s so many implications of Hop and Leon’s family actually being quite terrible that it never actually commits to.
